    Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

After about one month I decided to give the game another chance. I played one game against the Heat, which was a quite frustrating win with 129-124. I started the next game against the Pistons and after one quarter I was depressed and demotivated enough to quit the game and put it on the shelf again, maybe forever.

I was the Magic at Detroit, default All Star setting: 51 points by Detroit? All Star difficulty? This is ridiculous and frustrating as hell.

      Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

Well I finally got my perfect high performance computer. And I am now able to play 2k17 at a very smooth frame rate. And I now have to say that the game is good. Its pretty good now. I don't play online, and will never play online.....I'm talking strictly about the offline experience. I have my sliders all set at a even 50. And I just moved the offense down a bit. And that's it......I try to keep things very simple when it comes to sliders.

I'm finally having fun with the game. And due to the fact that I can play this game on my computer at a ultimate graphics, that makes this game greater.

I will never buy this game on release again. Its best to purchase it around this time. Around the December month

The only way this game survives if the mypark stays relevant. The online "real" basketball is horrible. I honestly believe this would be one of the lowest selling sports titles if they didn't have mypark. They've really lucked out with it because the rest of the game quality is absolutely terrible.

            Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

After what 3 months, I can honestly say NBA 2K17 is the worst game in the series. Never in any other 2K have I ever felt like I was wasting my time by playing it. That is exactly what the game feels like.. A big waste of time! I play 2K for a simulation experience, And that 2K17 is not!

I've been playing basketball on every level except the NBA for 15+ years. I know the game like the back of my hand. Maybe that is a fault of mine for such harsh judgement, Seeing as the sport itself if one if not the toughest to replicate.

The game doesn't even follow basic basketball principles. Rotations are awful for a ton of reasons i won't even get into simply because i'd need to write a separate blog just to explain half of it.

P&R defense is absolutely terrible. It's so bad that it is actually possible to beat a team by 70+ points using it exclusively (Found this out even before Sam did, Honeymoon stage).

Player movement is terrible. Guys wonder around aimlessly trying to gather their footing so they can change direction and rotate on D, But by the time they do, the ball is already going the other way. This is the most overlooked issue in this game. If that were fixed a lot of issues on defense and with rotations would be miles better.

NBA 2K17 is a huge disappointment. I'm not loyal to brands at all. So if the other basketball game comes along and gives me the sim experience i'm looking for i will make the switch in a blink of an eye. I'm just looking to get the best experience out there.

This is the kind of stuff that gets companies over taken by their competitors. NBA Live 07 Was the reason NBA 2K was able to gain the majority share of the Hoops video game market. It didn't happen over night, but by NBA 2k10 Live had been dethroned and never got their footing back. History is looking like it's about to repeat itself.

NBA 2K18 will have to be a game that is so great, So complete, So stacked that even the thought of picking up the other basketball game would be uncivilized. They would have to make a game that i honestly don't think they're capable of even doing. I hope the series picks it up, but until then i'm done with it. I've stuck in there way too long, i'm done (since NBA 2K till now) Let's hope they get a clue an make a hoops game next year that is at least playable

Having a fun time with the game so far....quick question...

Can you turn OFF the "coach that talks during the timeout"...I don't want to hear him and it interrupts the commentary and sounds odd.

Is there a way to turn this option off - it wasn't in last year's game???

I agree w/ almost everything you said. I'm starting to realize the problem though. Sim heads are outnumbered and 2K is more about the profit now and not the game. For instance, as we know, VC is the entire game now. Why is it that in MyTeam you can't purchase Boxes with MT Points? It has to be w/ VC. It's because they know people will have to BUY VC in order to get these bundles. Chaching! They know MyPark is also a big part of their profit so they will allow you to BUY your way to a 90 overall character in order to compete. The days of sim are slowly going away IMO. The majority of their sales come from people who don't want "sim". They'd rather see ankle breakers, get hall of fame badges, grand badges & be able to shoot from half court. Go to MyPark or play a play now online game and see for yourself. I know because my son is one of them. Lol

                  Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

If you don't mind me asking, what type of defense do you play, on ball, off ball, a mix of the two? I had to learn the common mistakes that my AI teammates would make, and I got used to anticipating them so now I know when to switch off ball and where to go for help defense. I understand your rage, I would suggest using the mindset that you cannot depend on your AI teammates to do the correct thing, if you do, you will get disappointed over and over again.

One thing that drives me nuts, is how when the computer runs a fast break, their players all run their lanes and run the break well, and on defense, their defenders all pick which players to defend and they defend the break well. But on my fast breaks, my players all run down the middle and block my lane or bring their defenders into my lane, my big men spot up outside, if I pass it, the receiver will randomly change directions and somehow the computer anticipates that and sends my pass to where my AI teammate is turning. Then when I defend the break, none of my teammates pick up their players, they all run to the restricted area and allow the computer to have 2-3 wide open three point options. The devs had fixed this with one of the patches and it worked for a few weeks, but recently it went back to where I cant run or defend fast breaks. Plus the computer AI players all turn into Usain Bolt when I am running the break, Brook Lopez is catching up to Isaiah Thomas even after a quarter court head start.

Sorry for the long reply, one last thing, I cannot play this game with the official rosters, I need to edit player tendencies just to make it somewhat realistic.

I have had a couple flagrant 1s , I think they are tied to the "hard foul" tendency and the "enforcer" badge. But a really hard foul won't be a F1 in this game, your player actually has to swing his arms through after contact almost like a punch or a judo throw in order to get the call. I play with the Celtics and Kelly Olynyk gets one probably every 20-30 games, maybe slightly less.

Well, I feel like the game has indeed come a long way. I took a break from it, and while it isn't perfect (by a long shot), it's a lot better than it was. it only took until January. Teams push when they can but not too much, which was my main gripe. And the user actually gets the occasional fast break, go figure!

Agree with Dione2014 though, 2k18 will have to crush everyone or it's going to let Live and friends back into the fray. This was a bad, bad year and 2K needs to seriously consider what they did and realize that it sucked.

Been playing 2k since 2k9 with KG on the cover. I've got to say at the time it came out, that was the most realistic looking & fun I've had playing 2k, even up to 2k14 on the last gen. 2k15 was the best of the current gen systems IMO. Then, when it comes down to 2k17, it's the worst and most frustrating one of them all, when it comes to gameplay. It's not even enjoyable anymore. I feel like it's too turnover prone. You've got that charge animation where the ball carrier just runs into a defender. The passing is horrible, still "floaty" and can be easily intercepted. Players move with no type of urgency, and also with no speed and I have yet to see any player fast enough to chase down a loose, rolling ball. Defenders are able to catch up to quick players (ex. Lillard, Irving, LeBron) on fastbreaks. No type of speed differentiations exist. You could block almost anything without any effort. I see players missing open layups constantly. There's so much more to touch on, but I hope these things get looked into.

Did anyone of you notice that it seems harder to play offense? It seems like the player don't move at all or they cant lose defenders anymore. Even the pick and rolls are weaker.

yes i notice this too..seems a joke that you cant score even when your open but cpu is dropping bombs on you from all location's. plus your teammate is stagnant. but i think its better coz now you have more challenge to win.
