    Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

I haven't messed with sliders yet, but so far steals and 3's are insanely easy.

But again, I'm just starting my 2nd game (play now offline), and I am LOVING it so far. Everything just feels so much more organic than 2K16.

Obviously there are warts that others have mention that I haven't experienced just yet. But at this very early stage, I'm very happy. If they can patch 2K16 player models (doubtful) into the game. And fix the Bucks court/unis and Giannis' skin tone, I may give this a 10/10! Ok, maybe a 9/10.

I see this posted every year the "X" is more organic than "Y". What exactly are you trying to say? It really doesn't make a ton of sense to me and seems to be hyperbole. Just curious ....

It's honestly hard to explain. Have you played it yet? You almost have to feel it for yourself.

What difficulty you playing on? And do you mean 3s and steals are easy for you or the cpu?

It's not just your comment, I just see it stated year after year, and yet no one really explains it, just seems extremely ambiguous.

I haven't purchased '17, usually buy as the price drops lower. (Bought 16 way into the season.) I've got be hard pressed to pay full price. However, this is the first time I ever remember not seeing reviews published by multiple companies or seeing announcements of what's been changed by the company. Very odd. This is an impression thread so I'm done.

I love this game. 9/10 for me. They need to fix play now online though, it's too slugish. And the playcalling is generally slow and clunky at times.

It seems they got rid of the Shaggy and Scooby-Doo running animations when your defenders are running back on D.

                    Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

It's always a bittersweet thing for me when a new 2K drops after playing the previous years version so much. That was definitely the case this year as I loved 2k16 and played it probably as much as my most played 2k 2k11.

However its been damn good so far and everything is just "smooth" for lack of a better word.

Initial things I love after a few games:
I love the floor spacing this time around and possibly the player sizes helped with that, there seems to be much more room on the floor to operate.

The speed and speed differences of fast/slow players on a fast break once past the defenders, there is just no chance a big guy will catch a tony parker now and thats how it should be.

New animations, I've already seen a bunch after knowing 16 like the back of my hand the new stuff stands out for me i guess.

The lighting is on point this year.

The controls, feels like they took a cue from when live was still good and everything is the most responsive its been on next gen imo. So good to feel like you can do what you want to do without getting sucked around etc.

Things im not an instant fan of:

Can't hear the shot clock for some reason when its counting down. The ticks are real quiet and has lead to a lot of violations already. I wonder if this was a gameplay decision to remove the loud sound effect? (my sound effect slider is at 100)

The plays taking a while - While they may be slightly faster than last year i think they really should start before you cross halfcourt or just as you cross.. the whole standing near the circle thing has been too slow for years now, this has to change im sure they know.

Visually, most people would hardly tell 16/17 and for that matter 15 apart. Sad to see we have reached max visual fidelity already this console gen, but they are what they are I guess. Perhaps Scorpio/Pro consoles will allow an even more realistic look next year.

Chris Webber Commentary - Really bad read here unfortunately and I normally like Chris commentating games. Sounds quite forced and just reading the script and doesn't fit in with the other guys at all sometimes.

Overall its awesome and those little negatives are nothing in the scheme of things. I do wonder just how iterative of an improvement this year is though... Like will it turn out 15 to 16 was a bigger jump than 16 to 17. I guess we'll see!

I can barely hear the sounds of dribbling, or the sounds when the ball hits the rim, or the sound of the net. And this is with the sound effects turned all the way up, and commentary, crowd turned down some.

                      Anybody else noticing this?

I do. Can't stand it when you splash one and you can't hear the rip of the net. It's been this way for years where on random plays the sound effects just won't be there. They're marketing specifically hyped up the sfx this year too.

I'm loving the shot stick arrangement. I like that you are to press down on the right stick no matter where you are on the court. Feels intuitive. It's like in real basketball, no matter where you are or what speed you're running at, you have to balance yourself and go straight up.

That said, i don't see why it's split into "bank shot vs non-bank shot" for the up-down. Does doing a bank shot even have a strategic advantage in the game? I'm happy for the computer to decide which of my shots should be banked in, like last year. Maybe it would make more sense for the "up" on the stick to be a jumpshot that is "straight up / balanced", and the "down" on the stick could be a jumpshot that is "fade away / unbalanced" ?

Love the game! It's so much fun, and feels so realistic.

My absolute favorite thing about the game is jumpshooting. It feels so natural and smooth. It's so satisfying to see that green flash. I wish 2k keeps this jumpshooting mechanic going forward.

Another thing that I liked was during a MyLeague game, I was abusing Anthony Morrow with Michael Beasley (massive mismatch) and they ended up switching Morrow with Anthony Roberson and Nick Collison to stop Beas. I'm curious as to whether that was a fluke, or did the Thunder actually adjust to stop him?

I really do love so much about the game that I can't write everything since it'll be too long lol.

BTW, was playing on superstar, and CPU was just hitting some crazy stuff. Had to adjust sliders by only putting down their jumpshot success by about 2-3 points, and I feel that it's much more realistic now.

there is quite a few minor bugs that decrease the quality of life, but can't really complain.

Man, I don't know why I can barely hear them. In 2K16 I can, easily.

My God, I just crossed Rondo over so bad with Curry. Send him tumbling to the floor, and I splashed a deep 3 on him. That felt so....satisfying.

Also, words cannot express how much better the lighting is this year!
