Boss, I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'm going to say it the best way I can: You were elite in 16 because the game held your hand. You didn't have to know anything about how dribbling works. You just had to know Kyrie Behind the back, Launch right, Curry hop Step left, Repeat.

I can Barely count on 2 hands the amount of "Elite" dribbles I dealt with in park. The Elite guys were ones that realized I had locked in to the dribble patterns and timings they were using, and actually started throwing different chains, branches, and timing at me. They used my knowledge against me.

What I'm saying is: This system is awesome. You have to actually learn how it works, and figure out sequences you are comfortable with. There's no more hold the ball for 23 seconds spamming Kobe stepback, Crawford In and out escape, etc. There's get the rock, hit'em with a move, get your shot or dunk, or pass it away. Go into the lab, play with luanches, play with combos out of the dribbles. Dribble with turbo, do it without turbo, figure out what moves you're comfortable with and test them out in the actual game.

You will have to work. You will have to use trial and error. You will have to use STRATEGY. And you'll have to read your defender to be successful all the time.

          Re: what happened to dribbling?

Three things that are bothering me about the new dribbling system:

          1) A stationary hesitation into a spin move is no longer a fast and fluid combo that propels your player forward. The spin move always comes out super slow if you do it after a hesi from a stationary position. But if you do the hesi into spin combo while on the run, it works like it did in 2K16 and it's still a very good move to use.

          2) The input command for a right to left double crossover while on the run is completely backwards now. You have to tap right, right to do it this year while you're running. The button command should be right, left like it was in 2K16.

          3) Forcing people to buy dribble moves with virtual currency (they were all free last year) without giving us a way to test out the moves beforehand is BS.

Aside from those issues, I like all the other changes that Visual Concepts made this year. The fatigue meter is a very welcome addition, though I wonder what will happen once all these shot creators get their grand master Tireless Scorer badge and people are able to upgrade their stamina rating (it's stuck at the default number for everyone right now due to a bug that has made all practice attribute bonuses temporary instead of permanent).

Everyone was elite in 2k16. Just equip Crawford's package and watch your player go to work. This year you actually need skills.

Lots more control is good. Its getting better but is still a way off where it needs to be.

The continuing problem is that these dribble moves take up a heap of space, and its difficult to chain them without running into defenders.

I find the simplest moves work best when paired with a driving angle.

Having said that, bad defenders are still too sticky. Ive lowered the CPU on ball D to 30 and may need to go to 20.

                Re: what happened to dribbling?

One of the many reasons I took the game back.

I'm pretty good with the sticks, but removing the sig sizeups after just a year of having them in is just a head scratcher.

I used Rose. Kyrie and went on to use Tim Hardaway and barely saw any difference in their dribbling styles this year. Nothing to make them stand out from eachother. Everyone looks like they have the same generic cross and behind the back, spin etc unless you spam it all together for a chained move, which feels like your focusing more on stick mashing than making a few quick passes leading to a score.

No thanks. Last year was far greater. You could chain the regular dribbles out of the size ups and really expose opponents - there were so many different size ups in the game it truly felt like everyone was unique with the handles.

Like I said, I'm pretty good with the sticks, just didn't like the way 2k changed dribbling YET AGAIN. this year.

they need to stop changing it, having to get used to something entirely new every year is bull**** and it isnt fun. its basically a snoozefest early release, the current season im in in mycareer is just messed up, i dont even care if i win or lose. im gonna have to grind through a whole season before i can even begin to enjoy the game.

Can NOT believe you guys are still on about this. The dribbling mechanics are SO much better then past games it's not even comparable. Just put some time into it. just like the jump shots each player has their own dribble package and the moves and timing branch together differently. There is no "mashing".

Try pressing the Sprint button while doing sizeups. Doesn´t bring the old system back, but gives you more options ... I personally like it a lot, i can finally semi-reliantly get the speed burst out of dribble moves and get to the basket. Crossovers especially are now really intuitive and responsive.

There is still signature dribbling, just not the canned size ups of 2k16...feels a lot better doing these combos yourself IMO

                          Re: what happened to dribbling?

I doubt I'm the reason, but I've asked for this several times. The packaged size ups were too hands off. It took the fun out of dribbling. I rarely used them, and since they were more effective than manual dribbling, I had problems.

The return of manual dribbling and the removal of excessive bumping makes getting by defenders much easier, when appropriate. I haven't pulled off anything highlight worthy, but I'm able to get to the paint at a realistic rate.

Now, I just need to learn some of the manual signature combos. Are they listed somewhere or do we have to figure them all out ourselves?

My fear was that dribbling would have the signature aspect removed, and to be honest, that has kind of panned out. I see very similar dribbling moves.

                              Yep.

Like I said, between playing with Kyrie, Rose and Tim Hardaway - all their moves looked similar to me, and I'm not shabby on the sticks at all. Only real difference is the rhythm dibbles.

Last year there were so many size up animations in the game, I really felt the individuality of players. Four different slots for unique handles - I absolutely loved them. Mixed in with some manual stick skill and those things were nasty.

The dribbling is better this year when it comes to size ups. You actually have full control now of what size ups you want to do. It went from 2k15 only having one size up. To 2k16 to having 4 size ups. But those were all one animation and automatic. But now he have the ability to control every dribble and can go where we want. It is much better this year! Also players can make the same moves but they all look different based on if they have their signature dribble implemented in the game and if they are good dribblers or not.
