I'm having a real great save, that I just wanted to share. Mind you, I cheated quite a bit, but I'm playing for fun, so...
So the premise is, that Donovan Mitchell was never expected to be this good. So I took control of the Knicks. Fired the coaches and replaced them with some generic edited coaches (abilities within reason), that focused on pace and space.
Then I made a trade. I traded Ntilikina and a few picks for Donovan Mitchell. I got rid of some stupid contracts, and in exchange I received, just to mention the two noteworthy, Derrick Rose and Patrick Beverley. So I had a young star-duo in Mitchell and Kristaps and a great point guard rotation in Beverley and Rose. Beverley can lock up the opponents star guard, and be a decent playmaker, while Rose can come off the bench and get some buckets (I made him into a 79 OVR, raised his durability a bit...).
On top of that promising team, I had A LOT of cap space going in to the season. I had my eyes on a potential free agent, who had already proclaimed himself as "The King of New York".
We made the playoffs the first season, but lost to the 76'ers in 5 games. Lebron and the Cavs lost in six to Kyrie and the Celtics after sweeping the Bucks. Golden State enden up sweeping the Celtics.
In the off season I landed Miles Bridges (not Mikal unfortunately...) with the 17th pick of the first round. Great 3&D small forward, and the perfect backup for the guy we're hoping to land come free agency.
We resign D-Rose and Beverley on conservative contracts. So going in to the free agency period, we have Beverley, Rose, Mitchell, Bridges and O'Quinn.
Free agency rolls around, and whaddaya know?! The King, Lebron James, enters free agency (yeah, I made sure that happened). We offer him 150 millions on a four year contract and he eventually accepts it. The King is going to New York!
After landing the biggest free agent signing in history, we round off the roster with the following players: Willie Reed, Trevor Booker, Marco Belinelli, Jarett Jack, Ron Baker, Nick Young, Anthony Tolliver and Festus Ezeli.
This team gives us a lot of option. Lebron, Kristaps and Mitchell is going to be a dominant big three here in The Big Apple. Stylistically very reminiscent of the Lebron, Kyrie and Love constellation. Beverley can handle the ball a bit, but he'll mostly be shooting spot-ups and concentrating on locking down the star guards of the league. Willie Reed is decent small ball center. He's adverse defensively and a good roll-guy. Off the bench, D-Rose will be a nightmare for opponents benches. Belinelli will run around a ton of screens and hopefully drill some daggers. We can play some very effective small ball lineups with either Kristaps or Booker at the five and Lebron at the four. Perhaps occasionally having Belinelli playing small forward to give us some extra shooting in the smaller lineups. The bench unit as a whole is pretty dangerous: Rose, Belinelli, Bridges, Booker and O'Quinn. That's a really competitive bench unit!
We're currently at the all-star break. First int he east with a 42-17 record. Can't wait for the playoffs and hopefully dethroning the Warriors!
