    Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

OK, how the heck do you guys manage to play HOF default ?? what are your tips ?

I try not to touch sliders but in every game, the CPU steals the ball from me wayyyy too often (they get like 12 steals per game while I get 1-2).

Most of the time, they steal it in a blur after some weird collision/animation (or a double team) regardless of who are the players involved and their handle ratings.

Moreover, the CPU seems immune to this animation while I have it 5 times a game !

Overall, my experience in Superstar/HOF defaut is that
    - CPU/user steal ratio is like 6/1
    - Every loose ball goes to the CPU
    - CPU screens are super efficient and leave a guy open on every play unless you keep swiching betweend defenders, but they still hit a lot of contested shots
    - I have to call 3 plays to have a proper screen that the defender doesn't dodge
    - CPU still doesn't help much on P&R and leave a lot of open layups

I sometimes win, but it's not gratifying as it feels like charity... I was given the right to win the game between 2-3 incredible and humiliating 12-1 cpu runs...

I've had your same experience and still do, especially when I play my team because the sliders are not adjustable. But in terms of playing My League I use armors slider set because they start at Superstar but then you customize them. Now, when I turn the ball over I feel like it was my fault or just a great play by the properly rated Defender. My games are not turn over fests anymore

It worked like a charm for them for until about the last 2 minutes of the quarter when i made 3 jumpshots in a row, 2 of them were open corner 3s and the cpu went back man to man. It was beautiful basketball by the AI and like nothing I have ever seen in a sports video game. I think ACE is the best thing in sports gaming even though it's not anywhere near full potential yet. This game has my soul right now, 5 stars 2k.

EDIT: Thought I'd also mention, this is the 1st year I've played on hall of fame for more than 2 or 3 games and NOT felt cheated...HOF is legit this year people!

        Koosa,

used to play my career a few years ago, but got tired of spending VC to make my guy better..etc. when I would play a season, I found I struggled a lot because, quite frankly, I'm 50 and can't seem to conquer all the various button combos to make certain moves... so the question is, can one be successful and enjoy good competitive games using just basics of button combos and play calling, or do you really have to work and work at "Getting it" ?

Obviously, I love The Show because simple and also a great challenging game.

        Looking forward to your thoughts

My first bit of advice would be to start on pro and get a feel for the game, nothing wrong with that. Honestly, I don't use a bunch of advanced dribble (And-1)moves or anything like that to "get it" I usually leave my offensive playcalling on auto and let my plays develop to get good looks and always watch for a defender to shuffle out a position a little bit to take advantage of driving lanes. It's still soooooo many controls that I don't know in these 2k games but I still have alot of success so to answer your question, I just keep it simple, call plays, and take advantage of the cpu's weaknesses. If I'm going against a team like the warriors im setting my defense to go OVER on all screens. If im playing a weaker shooting team then I have more options at my disposal in the coaching settings. I hardly ever use any of the "advanced" moves but I still have fun/competitive games, that's the beauty of 2k in my eyes. Hope I could help you out.

The PRO default gameplay was so hard to play on day one....It was perfect. But now its so easy to win. I don't trust going up levels. The thing with me is, I don't use defensive play calling while playing on PRO, which makes the game more challenging. Its a weird preference Ive used since early 2k dys for myself. It just feels wrong going up. The PRO level of the game is what the developers want you to experience.

So like every year, I love the game out the box for a few days. Just like the Demo's 2k use to put out. I played the Demos more than the game itself.

So yeah I guess I'm done again for 2k18.

My second buzzer beater of this year's game, this one was BIG:

Reggie Jackson with a 3 to beat the Cavs.

LeBron sank a three pointer to tie the game before this

Who has ever said that? Difficulties are there for a reason and if you "outgrow" one then there's nothing wrong with going to the next one.

... And don't be afraid to go up and level or two or three. I spent the majority of NBA 2K17 playing on Pro with sliders but started 2K18 on Superstar. Now I'm playing on HoF....and still winning games, plus getting solid stats. I know people in the past have said that HoF is a big cheese-fest in favor of the CPU but after trying it for myself, that's not what I experience.

Don't let your preconceived notions stand in the way of a better experience, at least not without trying it for yourself first.

Difficulties are now tied to ACE system so that is why Hall of Fame is less of a cheese fest this year. Da_Czar mentioned this change of difficulty last year on nba 2k17. Higher the difficulty the more adjustments the cpu is able to throw at you. This is also the 1st year I have enjoyed HOF.

I am hearing great things about HOF from you and other guys here, since it's less cheese considerably this year, i'll probably go to HOF with my season with the Pistons. Superstar is kind of coming easy to me. Last year HOF was pure cheese so I couldn't play on HOF but this year i tested 1/2 half game in HOF and it was pretty solid, pretty fun

Give it a try Im having great games on HOF default, other than a slight tweak to pass speed, felt like passing was still a tad bit slow and I've been pleading for a pass speed slider for years so I COULD NOT leave pass speed at default!! 🤣

i'll try the default, i don't want to break anything else while trying to fix minimal problems lol.

I don't remember any 2K game that was that good and that balanced in default sliders for a long, long time. I play Nba 2K since NBA 2K6 every single year and especially last 3 years with 2K15,16 and 17 I've grown sick of adjusting over and over and over again to find the right slider set only for 2K to come up with a patch that changes the gameplay completely and spend a month or two more on testing sliders with small adjustments. I was literally able to play the season mode in March, the months were wasted with countless tests and frustrating experience.

2K18 is pretty good at offering a very competitive, realistic and fun gameplay at the same time with default sliders. Usually 1 or 2 things are way off the chart in default: like pass success, steal or blocking or rebounds. This year, not perfect but pretty pretty good
