Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
I don't know you mate but I got a lot of open shots man. I play with the Pistons on default sliders with superstar and i won against Rockets by 30 recently. I'll switch to HOF soon since it get easier but once you understand the game - it takes time- it gets easier. How do i get open shots?
1-With sets, floppy actions
2-After pick & roll sometimes the big man sticks to the paint, i have a wide open mid range shot with the guard
3-After pick & roll 3rd guy comes to help to cover the paint, i find open man in the corner
4-Sometimes CPU plays off of my guys like Tobias Harris, Bradley and Stanley. When they give me space I shoot the open jumper.
5-You can get tons of open shots in transition or semi-transition situations Drive through the middle and CPU team-mates will spot-up for you.
6- Use turbo (sprint) button less.
If you are using pick and roll, don't always use it, try going to the reverse side without using your pick, it helps open up the D
Well thanks for the tips. You mention tons of open shots on transitions, so it looks like we are not playing the same game lol
First there are not a lot of these situations, as I find that the cpu very rarely loses the ball... (this can somehow be mitigated with some sliders change), but then, whenever I’m on the fast break, my players are most of the time unable to make some intelligent run… they just run in a straight line ahead of them or towards their defender (and not to the basket or in the corners…) and it’s quite rare that I get an proper open shot.
Usually my most viable option is to go all alone and use an euro/drop step.
As for the CPU, it’s the absolute opposite…
For instance, I make slider tests always playing the 2011 Knicks. No matter what I try, it seems that whenever I lose the ball, JR Smith is already open alone in my corner… And even if, by chance, he’s not given the ball right away and that my team manages to come back in defense, still none of my stupid cpu players goes near him and he just stays open until he’s given the ball. I can’t guard both the ball carrier AND the shooter manually…
The balance between how bad your cpu players are in defense compared to the CPU ones is a problem… Especially during the scripted momentum shifts where the CPU annihilates your 10 points lead in 3 plays… (gotta love those moments when the cpu decides your Kawhi will suddenly stop following Melo around and leave him open, or that his Mike Bibby will now completely shut down your LeBron in defense…). There’s always been this problem in 2K, but this year it’s more than obvious…

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
I've only had this game a day, but so far very impressed. The gameplay is as polished as it has ever been. Players feel a lot more like their real-life counterparts than last year. Animations look VERY good, and thankfully you can't steal the ball on every other press of the 'steal' button on D like you could last year.
My only major complaint is that 2K could really work on beefing up the crowd noise. Their intensity (or lack thereof) still leaves much to be desired.
Also really like the concept of "The Neighborhood" in MyCareer, only downside is you can't go somewhere with the press of a button like you could in past games, now you have to walk over there, which can become a bit tedious after a while.

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
I think one of my biggest issues is that the CPU tips and steals too many passes in the passing lanes... Hell this has been an issue for years... That's pretty much the only way you get turnovers in this game since there are rarely any errant passes that go out of bounds or other kinds of turnovers for that matter... No matter what angle you pass from... No matter how open the roller is the CPU ALWAYS freaking steals the passes and for me it kills the flow and fun of the game... You don't usually see that many tipped passes in a real game and you certainly don't see guys that don't usually get steals get multiple steals ... These BS steals are the only way to generate any turnovers and rarely gets them either... The cpu always hits their man perfectly while I can't even hit wide open roller without the CPU saying "NOPE" and taking it on the other end for the easy transition bucketComment

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
I don't think by anybody's standards I would be considered a really good player. And, there are too many turnovers. But, I was one who complained early that everything was being turned over and I was forced to adjust how I played because I couldn't live with it anymore. Have drastically reduced the amount of times I've turned the ball over and have a pretty good feel of when not to pass to the roller because you just get that sense that someone's going to step in and snag it.

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
Learning to enjoy the game now. I've just accepted that the cpu is going to make some shots I don't think they will/should, and in some cases that's just basketball.
Biggest issue is the clipping still, and how unbalanced it is, but I just relax and keep playing and the game is becoming less frustrating as I'm just accepting it for what it is. Don't press triangle in the paint though, pretty much an automatic foul or and one, lol......http://twitter.com/sageinfinite

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
People may say im crazy but I've played organized basketball since I was like 8...from city league all the way through high school and when I apply common basketball knowledge when playing 2k I have much more success and more realistic stats. By running plays and taking realistic shots my field goal %'s are realistic. Realistic shots in my mind means, taking shots within the flow of the offense. Some may be contested but I still shoot some of those with good shooters. Off ball screens I pull up for the mid range if it's open or semi-contested because it's within the flow of the offense. If I get a defender to bite on a pump fake sometimes I'll drive hard to the basket, sometimes I'll take 1 or 2 dribbles and pull up from mid range or side step for the 3 pointer. Long story short, you can't constantly drive to the goal and continue to force layup after layup and then expect realistic %'s...the more you spam the paint the more inflated shooting %'s will be so in the words of Da_Czar..."Don't play video games, play BASKETBALL!!" And in the words of myself, "Don't cheat the game and you'll have better results!!" IM OUT...🤣

Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread
Some games, no matter what you do, lol, you will lose. The bucks just gave me a killer game. I had it close until the fourth, they just took off on me. I couldn't hit a thing and they hit everything. Greek Freak finished with 34 points. Super frustrating but I powered through it.....

2k18 is solid, but as far as game-play its the most repetitive and predictable out of all the last several versions of NBA2k. last time the game was this predictable was maybe 2k8.Comment

Yeah that's what I was doing until the fourth when they were unstoppable. It was a 1 possession game all throughout, frustrating but I was still competing. They hit 4 threes in a row and it was a wrap, lol.http://twitter.com/sageinfinite
