    • Missed dunk cheese!
    • Missed layup cheese!
    • Patrick Beverly is not LeBron!
    • Goaltending!
    • Foul!
    • Where's the rest of my team?

    It's basketball.
It's like I've always said. A lot of people don't even know what real basketball looks like, and the ones that do think they want realism but they really don't.

I just watched Curry shoot 3-13 from deep 3 days ago against Washington. in 2k if a user shoots that poorly with the best shooter in the game he'd be very frustrated, and so would I (just like i'm sure Curry was while it was happening). In that very same game Washington still ended up losing by 3 (2K comeback cheese).

Basketball can be frustrating at times. I'd be pissed if i blew a fast break dunk or layup. I'd be mad if i shot 3-13 from the field. Like you said mate... It's basketball. I just wish more people would understand that.

Yeah I surely can break out of the animation... well after the play I was trying to run gets broken like a soggy piece of bread and I've wasted a good chunk of the clock trying to reset... it's bad enough that the freaking plays still take an eternity to actually set up... but when my play gets broken because the blow by animation triggers when I didn't want it to that's a problem... yeah I'm gonna call them a liar because I STILL GET STUCK IN ANIMATIONS... it's just a different set of animations to get stuck in this year... the way they talked up this new motion engine doesn't feel like how they were talking it up as back in July in the gameplay blog... I don't care about having an ultra realistic game... I do however care about having a fun game... and at this point I can't even force myself to slog through this game at times

        Oh, ok....cool....

Sometimes it gets to the point where you have to move on, especially if it gets you that frustrated....not worth it.

I'm playing against the Celtics, I'm losing by 22 points, then I manage to make a miracle comeback and win by 5. Next game, I'm playing against the Suns, and they're blowing me out by over 30 points before I finally rage quit and just simmed to end.

The scripting feels out of control in 2K18. I shouldn't be coming back from a 22 point deficit against the Celtics so easily, and I shouldn't be getting blown out by the Suns by over 30 points. It's not the difficulty that puts me off, I have a nice 12-11 record as an expansion team in my first year in MyLeague and I can even pull off these historic comebacks when the momentum swings in my favor. It's precisely the exaggerated momentum mechanics and the scripting that make me so disappointed with this game. When I was mounting that massive comeback against the Celtics, I could not miss anything, I could do no wrong, and the CPU would make the dumbest moves on offense; when I was getting blown out by the Suns, I could not buy a bucket and the CPU was dribbling through my players' bodies like they weren't even there.

The controls are so good this year, but the scripted gameplay is frustrating. When you do well, it feels unearned, like the CPU is treating you like a child and letting you score; when you're getting beat, it feels artificial and cheap. Right now, as much as I like basketball and the NBA 2K franchise, I kind of feel like finding a new game to play and just waiting until 2K19. It's the first time I've felt like this with regard to an NBA 2K game. I probably won't give up on the game just yet, because it's NBA basketball, it's 2K and I really want to enjoy it, but I'm tired of all the BS.

You are so right man, that's basketball.

When frustrated on offense, you should go back to your defense and play the hardest defense ever possible, close out every shot, rotate and don't let them get offensive rebound. When you play great defense the game will open up for you just like in real basketball. When you are angry or frustrated you can't play good basketball in real life, same in the game..

Ball tangibility is terrible in this game. Also charging and blocking fouls are almost non existent. Those are the only issues i have with this game in terms of 5v5 gameplay.

These are the two reasons why on ball defense is out of whack. Ball tangibility would keep centers with bad ball handling skills from driving to the hoop. And the threat of a block or a charge would keep the balance between ball handler and defender.

I still really enjoy this game though, I just hope next year these things can be improved on. I highly doubt they'll patch this stuff into the game.

                Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

I think most of you guys who are frustrated with scripted gameplay are probably watching the good release / shot meter so much and care about it so much and when you are wide open and open and miss the shot with good release several times you freak out as you believe the game is scripted and CPU start to make tough shots.

1-Do not care about the open shot EVER. If you can, turn off the shot meter and watch the momentum of your player, stop holding the shoot button when you feel it's good time to release it. I make probably more late release shots than Good release shots.

I have been the victim of watching the shot meter and trying to make it perfect and I was really angry when i missed open shots constantly with a good shooter. It makes you sick.

Also you gotta balance your game, the opponent plays too close for shots, drive by them, drive by them to the rim, when help comes, find the open man.

Stand still jumpers are much more easier to fall in, when you are on the move even if you are open it's harder to sink the shots in the game. Also corner threes are more accurate.

Shots getting in and out can make you sick if you concentrate too much on your release and if you take way too many jumpers.

1-Balance the game by going inside the paint often, driving often, drawing fouls...

2-Turn off the shot meter, look at your player's feet and position when deciding to release the button.

3-Disregard shot feedback completely (I sinked a lot of standstill jumpers with Tobias Harris when he was heavily covered or smothered - it's just basketball, when you have the rhytm shots can go in , just like in real life)

CPU centers who are not Towns, Cousins etc. would only drive to the rim if you give them a WIDE OPEN space to drive, other than that they don't.

Charging fouls are rare, you are right about it, blocking fouls are not that rare though it depends on how often you drive.

You can disrupt a poor ballhandler in the game by crowding him. They can drop the ball when crowded or throw out a bad pass.

A general but useful feedback on for on-ball defending especially if CPU is using a screen:

Try to get in front of the CPU player by only using movement button, no sprint no heavy defense button (L2 in PS4). When you cut their path to the rim for drive use L2 - heavy defense on them, they won't be moving anywhere !

If you sprint while defending you'll be out of position quickly
If you use heavy defense - L2 too much, they'll blow past you.
Don't play too close to the CPU even if they're a shooter, you can always have a good contest if you time your jump rightly
Switch often, don't be scared if you have your center on their guard, it's not real NBA, they won't take advantage of it surely

I‘ve played a lot over the last week and I really have fun now with the game since I switched to HoF with adjusted sliders.

The only thing I don‘t get is why the CPU just doesn’t take any Timeouts? Only late in games when the score is close they take the last 2 TOs left. During the game when I‘m on a run? Never.

Also when there‘s a jump ball during the game my guy never jumps or jumps way too late, no matter me pressing buttons.

Despite that, I like what I‘m seeing.

Game is refreshingly random vs the CPU for me...I'm on HOF Default. In my experience it goes both ways....so I dont find myself getting frustrated much at all....I had a game last where I was up 2 and the CPU missed 3 makeable 3's, 2 wide open to lose the game.....I love seeing stuff like that...

Some games are tough/close like that, some games I have to pause and check make sure the game is still on Hall of Fame because I'm blowing the CPU out, lol

The thing about "knowing the CPU is going to make a run"...is you can prepare for it...its been like that the last couple years...they just ramp up the aggressiveness based on what you were doing in the first half....I was telling s friend this, there are even more tools you can use to counteract this now....if the CPU is all the sudden hugging you all across the court, try changing your free lance options to Motion Cuts and force them out of it...If they are crowding the paint, change it to Space the Floor....and those are just some basic options...but they do work. It's the same on defense. That's not to say that the AI aint 'gonna AI' and pull some crazy mess....but when I see guys say things the CPU is 'all the sudden' doing things, or 'What was working for me in the first half magically stopped working'....I'm really not surprised if no adjustments are made.

On HOF Default I am seeing so many adjustments being made by the AI on defense...offense always flows smoothly for the AI but this year defensive adjustments are shining through especially how big men are actually rotating to contest layups/dunks...Played a game last night Pistons (user) vs. Jazz (cpu) where I was ice cold from mid range and 3 pt range so I decided to try to paint spam the AI and drive the lane every possession...it worked out good for about 3 or 4 minutes then the cpu called timeout, the shocker was when the cpu came back out in a 2-3 zone and was daring me to take jumpshots. It worked like a charm for them for until about the last 2 minutes of the quarter when i made 3 jumpshots in a row, 2 of them were open corner 3s and the cpu went back man to man. It was beautiful basketball by the AI and like nothing I have ever seen in a sports video game. I think ACE is the best thing in sports gaming even though it's not anywhere near full potential yet. This game has my soul right now, 5 stars 2k.

EDIT: Thought I'd also mention, this is the 1st year I've played on hall of fame for more than 2 or 3 games and NOT felt cheated...HOF is legit this year people!

Reinstall it! At the end of the day, it's darn good. For the most part, they've done a great job of making stars play like stars.

I tell my friends to play 4 or 5 fill games with the Warriors or Celtics and then try to play just one with a team like the Bulls.

It's darn near impossible to get thru it.

I think Ive finally adjusted the sliders to my liking. Ive found a slider set that keeps the rebounding numbers close to what the numbers reflect in real life.
