Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
Your evaluation of the real life NBA combine is WAAAAYYYY off base lol those are (soon to be) pro athletes with high basketball IQ.
They got there by playing 1-4 years of college/overseas at a very high level. Its not a crutch, its a blatant truth. 2k allowed walk on to count toward your qualifiers. At best, thats YMCA pick up ball IQ.Win% does not matter. The same reason it doesnt matter in the combine is the same reason it shouldnt matter much when playing regular pro am walk on games to get your 50 with .....randoms.
Some of you wanted it to be more wins but you also probably play with a team or multiple friends you have chemistry with.
You do realize thats a crutch for you. The combine is real life. when it comes to you playing with randoms and people gunning for stats or the wrong things trying to show their talent.
Turn on the real NBA combine and watch how they play when there isnt a legit play maker/floor general out there(doesnt have to be a pg, but it has to be someone thats going to get guys in the right spots and to keep spacing right.) watch how the athletic guys are constantly trying to cut for O-boards and easy buckets. Watch the guys trying to leak out for easy buckets or only play the passing lanes for easy stills. or guys going for shot blocks to get their blks per game stats up when they should just stand there with their hands up. watch guys not switch onto other guys to play great team defense but staying home so their man wont out score them on the stat sheet.
That part is realistic to real life combines. you are not playing with your college teammates in the nba real life pro am. you are playing with guys who played in college and played for other teams who have played under other coaches with different philosophies on how the game should be played on top of guys that have played pro overseas or guys that have been in the gleague trying to get a look. the one thing is. all these guys have played at a high level. now thats not the case for the 50 win people. this is the issue. how do you make sure the combine players are all legit semi pro at worse level players. It's not about just wins. because you can rack up wins with a good team and a playmaker with a hall of fame badge where no one misses unless heavy contested. that means nothing if 2k is planning on having builds without that badge. you will start to brick everything once you get to the real thing. its happening already.
I've played excellent games in walk on and still took that L. had excellent stats to go along with it and still took that L. the reason being. I can't run the offense for us, score all the points, grab all the boards, block all the shots, steal everything, get back on defense, etc, etc, etc... cover your man you keep leaving WIDE OPEN. I can't do all those things all game long. no one can.
the people who are winning are decent but they are also playing with other teammates who have that chemistry. there is no chemistry in the combine unless you get lucky. which is the way a combine should be.
and for those saying the top ballers on the top elite pro am teams should be drafted automatically are wrong too. a lot of those guys are balling off the over powered badges of their player and again their teammates players. you take that away and say still ball out and I guarantee a lot of those dudes are looking like mortals now all of a sudden. now some will ball regardless or find the next exploit quickly(thats why some of them are elite, they can see the flaws in the game quicker than most and they will capitalize on them.)Comment

we need to find out if you can still ball out regardless of you friends hall of fame dimer badge. regardless of your players hall of fame ankle breaker badge, regardless of your hall of fame posterizer and relentless finisher badges. etc. etc. can you still put up the numbers? can you still play defense?
then the fact that they have different sliders in his combine. it makes it a somewhat different game than any of us have been playing.
What they should've done is make a lower level combine 1st. which to your point would be like tryouts. but its 100% walk on randoms and not your friends or teammates. Then depending on how you do in that environment. you individually not wins. It will put you in the next round. So forth and so on until they get down to the 102 they need to draft.
I personally think they are rushing it because they had deadlines to meet.
There's going to be a good and a bad with the 2nd season of this. the good is, if you can get the rest of the nba to sign on. that will be almost double the roster spots. But if you can't. and its the same 17 teams. Then you will have even less spots because they already have an idea of who they want to bring back from the current crop of 102 who made it the first season. So now you're competing against people who had all season to play combine style team ball.
But just to be realistic. there is no way to show on the current game, who is combine ready because they didnt have this mode with these sliders in this environment before, to measure people.
Now that they have it. they need to leave it there for the hopefuls for next time. So then.... we can properly gadge who even deserves to be in the real combine come the off season and tryout time. Then you should have all legit / worth/high iq players in there. no trolls, no people who couldnt play anyway due to age, etc.Comment

Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
SplashMountain It can go way deeper than just Record though. 2k could do "Applications" based on more statistics to see who gets in and who doesn't. I don't think it would be that hard to find a good 3-5 players to run with. Majority of my wins were from Team Pro-Am but I did hit the looking for group post a few times. I haven't played against all of the top players in the combine but the ones that I have come across have put up GOOD numbers on both ends of the court. Take the badges and team chemistry away but match them up against bums and you'll see little to no difference lol. Just saying.
I played center one time. that was the first day the combine started when i thought they had it position locked like they were saying. Then i realized i could try another position outside of PF which i was going with for my 40 games. so i go with a center just to see. and just like i figured. it takes little skill to ball out at that spot. since we all know every pg in the game Force feeds the bigs. and pretty much every position does to get assists. since the center scores rather easily in the paint without missing many shots.
that game I had 20+ points and 20+ rebounds, with like 7 assists, 4 blocks. shooting darn near 100% from the field. Then i messed around and i had to use the bathroom. as quick as i came back it just kicked me from the game. i was heated. but at the same time it didnt matter because i was not going to complete 40 games as a center. since i found it too easy. meaning everyone will have a center putting up crazy numbers and thats exactly what you see.
I dont know how they are going to draft people in that environment at some of these positions because you could easily end up with just an OK guy who put up super numbers. and 2k starts tweaking the sliders and there goes your center's ability to ball out because he/she didnt really know how to play basketball, they knew how to abuse the exploit that 2k made available via sliders for those positions.Comment

Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
Two other things I forgot to mention in my post yesterday:
1) The three seconds in the key rule needs to be accurately whistled at three seconds, not at five or six seconds. The inaccuracy of this rule is a major enabler to Paint Wars' gameplay style.
2) Many of the hands-up shot contest animations that trigger during standing and driving layup attempts leave the shooter in better position for an offensive rebound than the defender. That situation does sometimes occur in real life, but for the purpose of gameplay balance, I think it's best if the majority of contested layup animations leave the defender in better position for a rebound than the shooter.Last edited by jyoung; 02-15-2018, 11:56 PM.Comment

Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
a lot of the people posting good numbers are not just dudes from elite teams. its actually randoms doing it too. dudes you never heard of putting up ungodly numbers with their centers(especially) and with slashing perimeter players. You know the two easiest positions to score, and the center position is the easiest state heavy position in the game. meaning you can load up on stats, from picks, to blocks, to good shot contests, to rebounds, to points, to a high fg%, and steals. .Comment

Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
I dashboarded in the 1st combine slot because I didn't know they added time due to the delay in starting the combine.
At 1st the game actually counted when the 30-40 minute period ended and I was mad because it depressed my stats.
After waiting a few days I saw the game did not count and may stats progressed back to its usual levels.
This incident gave me a whole different outlook on games not counting and people dashboarding.
I assume the moment you get to the loading screen if you dashboard it makes it count that your player is there meaning no other player can take your position so if you quit(dashboard) your team is at an inherent disadvantage.76 6"6" 180lbs Sharpshooting Playmaking SF

Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
I just can't stand the premise of having to share a court with so many players who have literally ZERO bball iq, shoot horrible percentages, blind as Stevie Wonder, etc. They have no business being in this. Like someone said, should've been a pre-tryout more difficult than walkon.Comment

Re: Official 2k Combine Thread.
I'm just gonna leave this here.... If you use Broadcast Cam in Pro-Am, you're a moron with no iq. Zero good pro-am teams use broadcast.
These dudes always sprint to the paint, clog the paint, have no idea how to rotate, etc. It's inherently a flawed camera angle. I swear it's all the NBA Live converts. I know in the first 10 seconds of the game it's gonna be a good game or not based on how these noobs move. Turbo turbo turbo? Sprint around the perimeter over and over? Yeah he's using broadcast.Comment
