Re: Get rid of archetypes and go to an unrestricted upgrade system?

I'm ok with the archetype system for online play, but I think offline should be unrestricted. In any case, the one thing I wish they would do is get rid of the attribute buckets and let us go back to upgrading individual attributes. I shouldn't need to waste VC on upgrading my three off the dribble if I'm a spot up shooter. I should be able to have a high layup rating without needing to be able to dunk over people.

I'd actually like them to break it down even more, so you have individual attributes for each dribble move and shot type. Maybe I have a killer crossover, but my behind the back is just average. Or I have an awesome eurostep, but I'm not great at reverse layups. And have separate attributes for on-ball steals vs passing lane steals. They are very different things.

And not really related to attributes, but go back to letting us choose each individual animation instead of animation packages.

But then we go back to the days of the 2K16 Demigods. The archetypes are fine, they just need to stop letting the Sharps and Strech 4's be so OP.

Oh, I would still keep the caps for online play. But offline, there shouldn't be any caps.

Everyone is talking about shooting and dunking what about defense? lol I agree with a lot of comments here. 2K needs to reward specific build on their build and type only and not allow them to be good in anything besides those.

Example a sharp shooter should have the worst defense vs a slasher penetrating to the rim. I am thinking Vince at prime driving to hoop vs Curry. As soon as Vince takes off Curry should have 0% to do anything. It should either be a foul or a dunk. NOT A BLOCK OR REBOUND !!!!!

Everyone has been making the same arch types since this awful arch time invention. It's either stretch bigs or sharp shooters. Power Forwards are hardly seen and slashers have zero advantage in anything.

2K talks about rating system and balance but there is none of it. If there was you'd see a wide range of arch types and positional players.

They gave sharp shooters bronze defensive stopper

The current archetype system is just bad, like you pointed out slashers are extinct it seems, I can't even remember the last time I saw a 6'8" or shorter slasher. Even point forwards seemed to have vanished as well. They have proven they cannot balance this system out, we're 3 years deep and sharpshooters have gotten even worse, despite the claims from developers that shooting would be harder this year.

They need to ditch positions first since guard, wing and big is what the NBA is now, inside of that they need an unrestricted upgrade system or a lot of archetypes based on real players. If someone wants to make a Curry type let them, but he should be a sieve on defense and upgrading his shooting and dribbling should be expensive. In an unrestricted system you can upgrade what you want, but height penalties should be a lot more strict, there are no 6'4+ dribble gods in the NBA, the best handles belong to Cp3 6'0, Kyrie 6'3, Curry, 6'3 and Kemba 5'11, so make it that if you want to speed boost and be a dribble god you need to be 6'3 or under, that way we start to see more realistic sized guards. Enough of the 7'3 centers, the 7'3 GC is still as good this year as ever, they still have that idiotic hip riding animation where someone who is -50 speed can keep up with you. If they'd limit the size of the players a bit more the court spacing would improve, instead they do stupid things like allow a 7'3 guy to have an 8'3 wingspan....morons.

They need to get rid of hall of fame badges too, Curry doesn't even have as many HOF shooting badges as sharps, so what the hell is a sharp even based on if the GOAT shooter is basically a bum compared to them.

I agree that there should be no restrictions OFFLINE. If I have no desire to take my dude online then let me play however the hell I want. I just want to be a rookie phenom that has a HOF career. Stop trying to get me to play online
