Re: NBA 2K19 Play Now Online Thread

So... I just discovered how good the Thunder are. Set tempo to run in transition and if you’re a high bbiq player in transition, it is damn near impossible to stop.

Also I’ve made two opponents quit recently running the 2-3 defense lol. I beat this last dude Portland vs Portland 80-58 running that zone. Ppl just hunt 3pt shots on the perimeter which is a strength of mine in that defense because I’m fast at switching between zones and getting guys out there to contest. The key is to find the gaps AFTER penetrating. Swinging the ball around will get an open look here and there but often o can still get at least a light contest. However, if my opponent would penetrate to suck in defenders, they’d find wide arse open guys on the perimeter. It takes a bit more work defensively to keep up but it’s the most successful way to beat it.

Nurk and Turk (Nurkic and Kanter combo) is freaking devastating. They swallow small ball 4s and allows me to control the game inside out. Nurkic had 16/10/5(assist) in my last game while Kanter went 5-7 shooting and 12pts/6rebs. Didn’t even try to get Lillard going. Get inside, look for help them kick out. If no help, let Kanter score.

Ah that new team the Portland Thunderblazers.

I started using Blazers in tier 2 but I'm just not used to Lilard's or CJs shot releases or know any plays. Couldn't buy a bucket but maybe it was the lag.

I win just by playing fundamentals and knowing how the game works not playing like a fast break nutter.

Kanter is great in the post yes. I used to use him on Thunder years ago.

Hey guys, just wanted to ask should I by 2k19? I heard that the lead pass exploit from 2k8 is back, and overall there are alot of issues, like off ball defenders leaving their man open. Should I buy 2k19 if I am only gonna use classic teams online, and play some street ball games online? Doubt that I hop into my team, cause I heard that it's just another with microtransactions, so if I want to get some good classic players like 04 kevin garnett or 06 paul pierce, I have to spend real cash to get them, and keep them in my lineup.

        Thx in advance

Lol. It's not too bad. I only have to dashboard 2-3 times before I get a regular matchup.

Poor guy. He didn't have an answer for your 3PT shooting, lol. I would have broken my controller on that backcourt violation.

The Pacers even without Oladipo are sneakily good (like real life?). Theyre spacing and like Portland, they have two good bigs who eat scubs for breakfast in the paint. I just swept through the euro league (seriously I’m like 14-3 in this league, my three Ls all came in succession hence restarting) and he gave me the one close game I had in this **** tier. Myles Turner did an excellent job holding Nurkic offensively. After my first few baskets with Kanter in the first Q, he did a quick sub and put Sabonis in for Thad Young. I started off in M2M defense then switched late 1st to the 2-3. Had success for about two possessions. He called a Timeout and I’m guessing changed his offense set. Then the threes fell. Indy went 4-6 from 3 in the 2nd Q, scoring a whopping 25 pts. Despite that, he only had an 8pt lead.

Start of second half I decided it was time to get Lillard involved. Wasn’t super efficient but I banged in a 3 along with a couple lay ups. Opened up the rest of the court for the other guys. It was a 6pt game with about a minute left. I hit a three and a two while they got a 2py mid range to go in. 58-55 I have ball. With about 6 seconds I shoot a light contest three with Lillard to tie. Miss. Kanter spins around Myles Turner for the board. Kick out to CJ for another three all by himself in the corner. It’s good!

I end up winning 72-63 in OT. Wow it was a tough one. That’s why I keep playing this game. When it’s skill vs skill, talented teams but with holes, going down to the wire is an awesome b-ball experience. I was really amazed at the Pacers versatility. They have outside shooting, size, defense. Surprised more ppl don’t use them. Maybe cuz I’m a Blazers fan, but tier 2 is the best tier. The teams are good but they’re not Philly or GS or Boston with loads of talent. There’s holes to attack. The benches don’t have crazy good 6th men (Marc Gasol in TOR) you gotta make due with role players. Tier 3 lacks the star players.

I might be in the minority, but I think NBA 2K19 is a solid game online. If you're wanting to play with the classic teams, it'll be some work. To unlock classic teams, you have to progress through the levels while using different teams across 3 tiers. In NBA 2K18, all the teams were opened from Day 1. I'm not sure or don't remember a pass glitch from NBA 2K8.

Yeah, they're a solid team. They're basically a team full of shooters. They should be a better defensive team, but they hold their own. Turner is very useful as a stretch 5, because he prevents people from playing offball defense and camping with the center for the entire game. Technically, Sabonis can shoot 3's too, but for whatever reason the flow the game never rarely sets him up for an uncontested shot. From there, I just score with whomever has the hot hand.

I like playing in Tier 2. Not too easy, not too hard, plus it's nice when you play against someone who doesn't try to abuse the PnR on every possession.

I have great space 1-4 (I also go with Wingate at the 3, Askew at the 2) with a solid 5 on both units (honestly, Johnson is a sleeper. Solid finisher, great rim protector).

True. I started putting subs on manual when using Historic teams because I'm afraid of getting all John Brown lineups. I definitely should have used my subs more in this game.

I like the team, but couldn't find a use for Kemp. I got one lob off and that was it. He has no shot, and isn't great in the post. I may try using them again and seeing what I can get with him and Peyton.

I really liked what I saw in Indy. And the guy I was playing was impressive with them. Irl they’re not a team I try to watch unless they’re playing my team or have a National game and since Dipo has been hurt they’ve been winning while the media pretends they’re not there. I know on Bill Simmons podcast for the longest time they were basically saying “take Indy out of the playoffs” after the dipo injury when talking potential for playoffs. Just recently they came around with a “if you’re playing Indy you’re not in for a hustle-fest in a potential 4-5 seed matchup” which is true.

I really hope when Dipo is added back into PNO that they don’t bump Indy to tier 1. Half the tier 1 teams are useless as is. Idk last time I played a team other than MIL/BOS/Philly. Admittingly I don’t select anyone else either except for OKC. I run with OKC recently and in past it was a tossup of Boston/Milwaukee. Philly is in my GSW tier of teams I won’t play as. Takes little skill to win as either team. For now I will play vs Philly but GSW is a dashboard quit guarantee.

He's a solid option from mid-range. Decent rating from there plus silver Catch and Shoot helps. Having him off the PnR game is always nice. Helps to have some good plays for him. I use the Suns PB with them and having him run the Fly Alley plays, especially Cut Fly Alley, is an awesome way to get him involved. Cut 15 Horns Alley is a nice little pick and slip sort of play too if you add that in. If you find Fist 15 Spain Loop in a book too, that would work really nice for him.

I actually love him in the post, honestly. I had one game where I was down 2 with 2.5 seconds left. Got it to him at about the elbow, went straight back on a fade, falling basically beyond the three point line, like, wayyy out. Green light, Sonics won in OT. I wish I'd streamed it because it was beautiful.

Posting my comment here, because I think it's more likely common in PNO....

Is anyone getting that weird PnR animations where the screener "drags/pulls" the on-ball defender into the paint? I don't if I never noticed it before, or something happened online with the game engine in PNO games. My opponent will call a screen. Sometimes I'll switch to the big to defend the roll man, and I'll let just let AI go over screen, since they tend to do it better than me.

What ends up happening is that the roll man will start moving towards the rim. Somehow, the animation body blocks me, so I can't run past the roll man to contest the shot. ALSO, the roll man literally "drags/pulls" the on-ball defender to about the FT line area. I had several games where my opponent would go 3-7 possessions in a row where they're getting uncontested 3's at the top.

I've been experimenting with different defensive schemes, but at the moment...when the roll man starts to pull my on-ball defender towards the rim, my opponent is letting the shot fly which makes it EXTREMELY hard to get a good contest on the shot. I tried to manually use the on-ball defender, but then my opponent will call multiple screens and zig zag behind them to break loose from me or shoot as soon as I get sucked into (see above pictures) into the screener.

I understand that the PnR is a very important part of basketball, but why do players need a PhD in defending it?

Lol...isn't it kinda weird when you can recognize when BS happens to your opponent? I know that I have had games where I KNOW my opponent got screwed by the game due to some wonky animation or "ratings", and I end up hitting go-ahead bucket or winning the game.

I had one recent game where I thought I was pretty much dead in the water, because I was down by 7 points with 45 seconds to go. 1st possession, I get a cheap steal where all he did was bump into my player...3PT shot by Bojan. Next possession, he gets called for the illegal screen...Turner scores and gets an And1 (5th FT attempt for the entire game, lol). Last possession, I can tell he's nervous, because he tries to hold the ball for the final 13 seconds. I tried to steal the ball, but ending up fouling him with 5 seconds. This fool misses BOTH FTs, I get the rebound, but I happen to see Matthews leak out on the break. I threw the greedy (let's call it for what it is, because it normally sails out of bounds) pass, and went in for uncontested layup.

I know dude was hot, lol.
