NBA 2K19 Play Now Online Thread

I started playing online full time since 2K15 so my experience is limited. I did play 2K11 online a few times however, but the lag was too significant for me to keep playing. I will say that 15-16 were way more realistic percentage-wise than 17-19.

I could consistently limit people to below 40% from the field if they were not good at understanding basketball (or how to exploit masterfully).

These last few years it feels like anyone but newcomers can hang with good players because of the amount of bs that happens.

Cross, I have all but gave up this mode. I resorted to playing a sim style myleague. Simed a few, played a few until I caught up to the real life date. Then begin to mimic the real NBA with all transactions, and injuries for the most part. I only play with Orlando and will play every game the same day, they play irl. I’ll watch the game then play the same matchup before bed.

Started in November and have been keeping up with the NBA schedule since. I play this mode every now and then when I get the urge to play another human in 2K but it quickly fades after one game. Win or lose.

I’m really enjoying the 07-08 Celtics right now for tier 1. I like to use a starting 5 of Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Scal, KG. Gives me tons of spacing and nobody posts up Scal on the block or actively try to attack him. Bucks users just pick and pop as do Celtics.

I was experimenting with a 2-3 zone yesterday while playing my first game with the Heat in tier 3. I’m playing the Grizzlies. This dude pausing spamming (he’d only do it once) after every other bucket in the first half. He eventually used up his pauses with only a 29-26 lead going into the half. I’m messing around and have my mic off. Second half I switch to man with Winslow at PG to shut down Conley. I pull ahead by the third and after adjusting the P&R defense, I jump out to a ten point lead at 61-51 before he quits with a minute to spare. I let him have it though before he quit on the mic. I was like “you’re not so hot now when I’m not half assing it while feeling out this team.”

Miami is low key a really good team to use if you like defense. They need a reliable pick and pop guy though. Kelly Olyinic in the two games I played was like a combined 1-10 from three. He has a decent rating (like 75?) I just couldn’t get it to go in. A Meyers Leonard type would do wonders next to Whiteside.

Yeah...that Tier 3 Current Miami Team is something else. I've played against them 3 times in one weekend while using the '70-'71 Bucks. I was thinking that it would be an easy win, and I lost all 3 games by double digits . I felt like a fish out of water once Kareem was basically on lockdown.

I only played two games with them, going 1-1 (my expirimental 2-3 zone got SHREDDED by Beal and the Wiz kids) but I like their potential.

Whiteside has always been overrated by 2k defensively. He shuts down everything at the rim when irl I’ve seen him get pushed around by Nurkic and guys with some fundamentals baiting him into hunting blocks like he always does. But in 2k he’s a menace

I immediately mute my random . I go to def settings : force direction baseline , over on all screeens , and catch hedge on all picks.

Then I turn the the ace engine off , and show messages from off and def ..... lastly I turn help defense to a 7........ and rest besides zone I bump up ....

What does this one actually do? Is there a noticeable benefit? I've always thought that the dudes that are turning crap way up are just trying to game the system, but is there actually a risk-reward associated here?

Honestly, there are so many ways to control the same settings, it's really hard to tell. I change it sometimes, because the current/Historic Pacers were more about team defense than individual defense. However, I can't tell if there's a real difference.

Can someone help me understand the purpose of the dribble moves? especially geared towards online play.....

for example I dribble behind my back when im trying to escape a certain side, and a crossover to get my defender out of position....

when do you use Hesi? or some other basic dribbles.........

do you use dribble moves in the post..???.. I find myself pump faking and drawing contact......

What a difference not playing for more than a week or so makes.

Come back and I'm getting beat by every fast break, human hunting, 3pt chucking cheesers.

It's probably the lag but nobody is missing on 3s! Shooting 70% against me is the norm.

Marcus Smart 4/5 from downtown...definitely a game of makes and misses. Somehow I'm always playing against the makes.

I won that game vs Celtics in case anyone wants to say I'm crying about loosing.

I need to add play like a buffoon to my arsenal to take me to next level I think. I'm missing something here with this game.

I may have figured out why the Warriors feel so cheesy and OP on defense, Pass Perception.

I recently tested out and verified that I play WAAYY better with a rim protector and an elite perimeter defender, focusing more on the rim protector. You can get beat so much even when playing great defense, and getting beat slightly doesn't lead to a contested layup, but a wide open dunk many of the times, since much of 2K is still pretty binary. Having a rim protector turns would be dunks and easy layups into contests and bad shots.

My biggest pet peeve about defense, and currently my biggest defensive weakness, is allowing passes through that I know are coming. Most of the time I blame the CPU since I assume my player will stop the pass and they don't, but many times I switch to the defender near the ball, but can't get a hand on the pass because I'm too late to trigger the correct animation early enough, or the attempt is timed correctly but my player just does a terrible animation that has no chance of reaching the ball.

I think this is based on ratings, mainly pass perception and steal. I see pass perception as determining the AI awareness of passes, and steal determining the quality (animations) and success rate (steal,miss,foul) of steal attempts made. I was looking to see what teams had good pass perception so I could try them out and see if I feel a difference, paying particular attention to PF/C with 75+ pass perception, since most of the terrible passes that are let through are fast break lobs pass the big man, or forced passes into the paint. Having a big man that automatically shuts that down just because of ratings is huge.

This is why the Warriors defense feels so much like easy unfair cheese. Their top 8 ALL have 74+ pass perception, they have 4 players with 85+ pass perception, and their starting front court has 92, 77, and 75 pass perception. That is RIDICULOUS. No other current team even comes close. Using the Warriors, half of your defense is taken care of just from those player's existence, and you will get way more steals and extra possessions because of it.






Since I have still yet to use the Warriors and refuse to, I looked up other teams that I could try to test the theory out with. Aside from no current team coming anywhere near the Warriors in terms of the high levels of pass perception and the amount of important players that have it, I found a handful that I'm going to try out.

The Thunder, Raptors, Jazz, Bucks, Celtics, and Rockets have squads that are moderately comparable. Only the Thunder come close to the Warriors, having 3 starters with 85+ pass perception, with both of their bigs having 75+ pass perception. The Raptors, Jazz, and Rockets have similar squads with high pass perception bigs, but the Celtics and Bucks lack pass perception down low, which is where it's most important.

I'll try these teams out with this in mind and let you know how it goes.
