I just see it as a good product that's fun and engaging that people don't mind spending money on. It's not unlike 2K in that regard, IMO. A new season starts, my son and his friends are all excited, they just want to play and have fun. They get the same skins and back bling and just have fun. That's what it's about to me. As long as you're enjoying your gaming time, have at it. Yeah, I'll send 10$ or 15$ bucks here and there but so what. I did the same thing with Minecraft. I guess I just see it as a natural progression of gaming and not some evil greed thing.
Bro and that's exactly my point..when I FIRST started playing Fortnite, it was late November..there were no battle passes..I don't even think there were skins...just get in and survive to the end..it was endless fun..when they introduced skins..I said ya know what..here's 10 bucks..then monthly battle passes..same thing..probably only spent about 50 bucks because I stopped myself..but it was also worth it because it was fun...some people have spent HUNDREDS..and they don't even get the advantage of starting 25pts higher than the person that didn't spend a dime..and yet no one gives them a hard time...but when it comes to 2k..they want to jump on people who buy VC..because it makes it harder on THEM...it really doesn't..if you CHOOSE to go to the park, knowing there will be 85s there..that's on YOU...I'll be in myCareer until I get enough VC to be an 80-85 (after I spend this first 100k to be a 75)..I promise there will still be 12months worth of 2k left

So your options are either spend more money, or spend an inordinate amount of time in a mode you may not have any desire to play, most of which is spent watching unskippable cutscenes (until this year), in order to be on a somewhat level playing field.

And My Career is just as bad; you're still the same player with no skills or athleticism going against much higher rated players. The only difference is that there's a story to go along with it.

exactly bro, prior to nba2k18, I always grinded the games and earned VC through playing the games. Last year was the first year where I didn't have time to grind it with my business. I can't blame that on anyone except me and that's why I bought some VC to help boost my character. IF 2k was allowing us to purchase boost stats or jumpers or something that you can't get without purchasing, I can understand, but it's just VC which we can earn without spending money if we don't have to.

yea, what game doesn't make you build up your character to compete against other characters online?

Not at all, 2k18 was the worst grind by a mile and it was intentional. No reasonable person had time to grind that unless it was the only game they played, maybe. They even realized it because now they seem to have lightened the grind because it was RIDICULOUS in 2k18.

OR..play a different game that you don't have to cry about..prior to last year you HAD to play MyCareer to get badges...people would just come to the park with no badges...some people are just NEVER happy..you're not gonna have everything YOUR WAY...this is REAL LIFE...in life, you pay for convenience...video games are no different..(I don't know if this community gets out much but um)..if you were to go to the Club for instance..you have 3 options...1.) wait in line but pay a cheaper price to get in, this will take longer. 2.) Pay for VIP, which costs more but gets you in quicker 3.) Be important enough to get in VIP without paying (which means you put in work somewhere else)...that's it, that's life...and the 4th option is just not to participate...crying to the club owner about prices is wack when you have that many options..play Park NOW..or play when you earn your VC and build your guy up..but STOP crying cuz someone else paid for quicker access..

No other game starts you at that much of a disadvantage. It's not about building up the character; it's about not starting anywhere close to a level where it's even possible to compete.

I could jump into Destiny or COD or Battlefield right now, having not played any of them, and outside of my weapons, you wouldn't be able to tell that I haven't been playing the game. If I start a new player in 2K and get into a game with someone who has an 85, it's going to be immediately obvious that my player is unskilled and unathletic.

I can't believe how many people are cool with or defending these practices. The grind in 2k18 was intentionally horrible so people would buy VC. If you think that grind was cool then man you have a lot of time on your hands. Cosmetics only micros are completely different from the micros in a game like 2K. Not only does it take an extreme amount of time to build ONE character, but you can't use any of that progress on a different one. Your experience of the game is so limited. I only got to play as one archetype combo at one position because the grind was absurd. I only want to play ProAM and I'd love if I coulld experience different positions and archetypes like other games. Hopefully 2k19 is better but I can't believe people are cool with what happened in '18. I'm not blaming those that buy VC but the overall practice should be discouraged.

It's like you're not even trying to understand the point. No one is upset about having to grind a little bit. That's actually part of the fun. What's not fun is the way that you start out on a not level playing field, even offline in My Career, in order to coerce you into paying to upgrade quickly.

Show me one player in the NBA who is as awful both physically and talent-wise as your player starts out in 2K18.

And your analogy makes no sense either. A more accurate analogy would be if you paid full price to get into the club, and then were told you could either pay another $20 to dance on the dance floor right now, or you could dance in the bathroom for 60 hours first, then you can dance on the dance floor.

We had the same damn discussions last year, points are just going to fly over their heads

Most of these dudes don't even play this mode and just want to come in here to argue and choose to speak, not listen, and do not really understand the heart of the issue

Sorry...that's comparing apples to oranges. IIRC, people mostly buy skins in Fortnite which doesn't increase/decrease your advantage over another player in H2H matches. When you buy VC in NBA 2K to max out your character, you're gaining a competitive advantage, period.

You really can't compare a traditional FPS with no real story mode to 2k...and as far as Destiny...your weapons/gear are equal to attribute points..literally..the higher your weapons..the higher your skill level and you cant even access certain parts of the game until you raise your weapons/armor/skills...in 2k you can access anything at any time, just not animations. So yea, it's more incentive to spend money in Destiny than 2k..they also release several add ons that cost money as well.

I started a new player on Destiny, it was immediately obvious as I went to an area to try to do a STORY mission and it was a public area with level 30 people so all the enemies were scaled and one shotting me as I tried to get to the person I needed to talk to...you can DEFINITELY tell a new character on destiny, stop it. ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME WITH AN AUDIENCE HAS A PAY SYSTEM!

A competitive advantage over WHO though? People who choose to skip the MyCareer mode that will make their player better? That's ON THEM for skipping it and trying to compete in a mode where they KNOW that level of competition exists...I don't feel sympathy for you at ALL. I WOULD feel sympathy, if the ONLY WAY to level your guy was to play Park/ProAm..and you had to go there as a 60 and compete against 85 who paid..but..it's NOT..it's your choice, own it..dont cry about it..no one is forcing you to take a scrub out there..spend a few weeks in MyCareer and earn some VC, get your guy up to a 70-75 and compete..a 75 in the park with badges is able to put in work, period.

No, you're wrong..you absolutely start out on a level playing field...EVERYONE STARTS at 60...not just you EVERYONE...what road YOU take to get past 60 is on YOU...like I said, people pay for convenience in life, PERIOD. Why is that so hard to understand?

It's not like paying to dance..because EVERYONE CAN DANCE AT THE SAME TIME...because you don't have to go to the club until you can afford VIP IF waiting in line is your problem...if you don't like it, don't participate.

You can earn VC in EVERY mode so you dont HAVE to play MyCareer to increase your guy..
