You don't know if this is the case though? Are you certain a suped up playmaker with ankle breaker, speed boosting etc can get locked down by a pure sharp? Or are you just assuming because you were able to lock down the CPU with Steph Curry?
If defense isn't nerfed Lockdowns will be superfluous.

Re: If defense isn't nerfed Lockdowns will be superfluous.
I was getting frustrated not being able to get past Demarcus Cousins - He was crowding me out past the 3pt line (I can't even shoot!), so I thought I should have a clear speed advantage, but everytime i tried to sweep and go past him, he just bumped me and I lost whatever advantage the triple threat move had given me (wheres my blowby animation???).
I kept trying, and one time I was driving right and as he was bumping me, I realized he wasn't stopping me because of speed, he was stopping me because of his strength - so I did an escape dribble back to the left to create some space, and while still holding turbo, I went out of the escape dribble into a hesi crossover to my right and blew past Demarcus and into the lane for an easy dunk. ( He even did the most Demarcus Cousins thing ever and just wildly swiped for a steal before giving up on the play instead of following me to the rim)
I couldn't help but smile as I watched the replay a couple times. It felt like real basketball - I got him moving his weight forward and to my left, and with the space I had created, I was able to move laterally around & past him before he could slide back over and stonewall me.
I've even started doing a move that I always use in real life but never made any sense in 2K - I drive hard in one direction, but I'm not that fast so the defender usually catches up, and I'm not that great a ball handler so I don't want to try some fancy dribble move in traffic and bounce it off someones foot.
So I release R2 and hit L2, going into kind of a slow, controlled spin move, getting the defender on my hip before transitioning into a post fadeaway going the opposite direction. It registers as an open shot because I'm 7 feet tall and I am basically rising above the defense to get a clean look.
Can't wait to chain shimmy fades, post spins and up & unders to create my very own "post drive" package.Last edited by GK_11; 09-05-2018, 07:02 PM.Comment

I have noticed that the CPU crowds everyone beyond the arc, shooter or no. Love was playing Draymond three feet outside with the ball. Not good. The slower guys were also not giving quicker guys space.

Lastly, I'll reiterate that defense DOES feel much improved. I'm NOT asking for blow bys every possession. I'm NOT asking for the snatch back to be OP again. Anyone saying I'm just whining needs to seriously check their facts.
I want Draymond to play his game and let Curry have to account for help defense. Curry should NOT be stonewalling anyone. That's it.Comment

...Whoops...
NBA Leaders - Steals Per Game, 2015-2018:
1. Steph Curry, 1.9 SPG

I'm not equating steals with defensive ability, but the idea that he can't stop anyone is a little ridiculous. He 'stonewalls' Chris Paul in that first clip...so...lol.Comment

Re: If defense isn't nerfed Lockdowns will be superfluous.
Spoiler
The way the game feels right now everyone will be able to defend. I'm all for better defense than 18 but I'm thinking everyone making a 2-way is going to feel cheated when Non-defenders pick their pockets. The defense is simply over the top right now. As stated, i like good defense, i play good defense. But there needs to be a medium. There has to be balance. In no way am i advocating for lockdowns to lose their specialty, I'm hoping a bump down will INCREASE their worth.
I'm feeling like day 1 we'll have a lot of lockdowns and 2ways and then a week later we won't because anyone can play defense.SpoilerJust watch the CPU guard itself. The offensive player will be stumbling over himself because Joe Blow defender is pressing him. There needs to be a medium. I saw in the prelude the offensive player lose the ball twice in the same possession and get it back both times. It's ugly IMO.
In my prelude experience the CPU was pressing me out past the 3 point line and I'm not even a shooter.
Spoiler
It's just a bit over done because we complained too much.
I understand the game isn't even out yet, but wait and see.
16 was similar. People weren't spending attribute points in defense because the mechanics were OP.
Trust me, I'm not trying to take anything away from LDDs I'm trying to help them. It's easier for you guys to label me a bad player. It's easy for you to assume i don't know what I'm talking about.
I do NOT want to turn 19 into 18. But I'm telling you guys right now that the online community will drift away from defensive builds if everyone can play defense.
If you're a pure sharp with no defense in your build then you shouldnt win most of your battles on defense. Period. And i don't see that happening in 19 as of right now..
Yes, it's the demo. But I'm not a novice 2k player either.
Spoiler
The following video below is the 2k19 Celebrity Tournament. Tell me exactly where everyone is able to lockdown everyone defensively (Note: I haven't seen the entire video, but I can guarantee you no one was locking down anyone).
You're an online head, right? Have you actually seen 2k18 users zig zag and blow by everyone even when they went up against a lockdown defender? How the CPU on-ball defends a user is different when you go up against another user. You should probably know that by now. The user is more jittery on the sticks. The CPU is programmed to be more precise. I can probably guarantee that people will be able to blow by just about anyone in 2k19, but things will finally change when LDD (lockdown defenders) are unleashed.

I'm a total NOVICE to 2k19. I play on HOF CPU and I can blow by the defense just fine. As a complete casual player, the ONLY thing I'm afraid of is that the defense is NOT tough enough. I wish there was a setting to make defense even more difficult right now.
You have probably been playing 2k longer than I have and you have probably put in hundreds of thousands of hours into 2k more than I have. I play 2k every now and then. My total cumulative NBA 2k basketball hours, minutes, seconds is probably less than 8 months total ever since my first game with 2k10. I'm a complete casual sports gamer. I probably do not even belong in this forum because I honestly don't have a lot of time for video games.
The videos below uses the L2 button tap, then turbo with left analog stick. If none of these work, use the right stick jab step, and then explode. The blowby mechanics works just fine in 2k19. I don't have a video on the jab step yet, but it's doable.
Most important note: I don't do isolation plays. I am not an isolation player. I am a casual player. And even I can do blow bys just fine in 2k19 Prelude demo on Hall of Fame. Here are my videos.
EDIT: Now if you're strictly referring to the CPU HOF hugging everyone even near half court, that's going to depend on what we see in the retail release? If the HOF CPU is hugging everyone close to half-court in the retail release, then that could be a problem (it could actually make it even easier to take down the CPU). But more importantly, if the CPU HOF is in fact hugging non-shooters near the half court line, that would seem unnecessary.

This is me a couple days ago just giving the 2k18 blow by defense a test run with Rudy Gobert. This is not realistic. 2k19 is perfectly fine as it is.

Exactly. Lots of dudes were out here iso zig zag cheesing last yr and getting the easy blow by on guys playing great defense. No more of that. Learn to create angles, learn to do things off the dribble and actually play team basketball. If you're locked up, pass the ball to a guy that isn't.

Re: If defense isn't nerfed Lockdowns will be superfluous.
I mean I see what op is trying to say but it's way too early to worry about this lol. Plus NBA players in real life even if they're bad defenders can still defend to some degree so nobody in the game should be completely helpless unless there's a severe mismatch, eg z Bo on westbrook

Okay that's the CPU...OP was talking about User vs User...two COMPLETELY different things...plus Draymond can shoot...AND..it's the Cavs vs the All-Star Warriors..who on that Cavs team actually has high Defensive IQ and stats even CLOSELY comparable to the offensive stats of ANYONE on that Warriors team?Comment

I was just saying that they’re playing tight all the time, but they’re not stonewalling like older games. But Draymond isn’t going to pull up and shoot a three like Durant or Curry lol.

Re: If defense isn't nerfed Lockdowns will be superfluous.
I always said this in 2k17. Sometimes the best D against a great lockdown is simply not shooting. When i was against one in 2k17 i would adapt and change my game into an opportunity scorer instead of my usual dominate scorer style. May only come out with like 12-15 points but you won’t be feeding your defender easy stats that lead to your team getting screwed whenever you touch it

Re: If defense isn't nerfed Lockdowns will be superfluous.
Are folks expecting to just run by defenders? We could in 2K18 and this was a problem. Learn to use actual moves and you will be fine; This is where stick skills come in. I dropped 29 points with Curry in 2KU on HOF without forcing anything (like 24 with Klay in another game). Averaged about 20 ppg as a slashing PG in the prelude without forcing anything. Defense is good where it is.Comment
