I think I’m 1/12 on open standing layups either after a pump game, offense board or drop step. It’s gotten so bad that I consider it a bad shot and will pass out to a teammate. My standing layup is 92 with gold finishing badges and a HOF up & under.

I shoot 61% from 3pt (so let’s just say 61/100) and for the most part I only take open 3s, however my open 3pt shot is 73... with bronze shooting badges.

I think that gives a pretty clear picture of where 2Ks focus is. It’s still all about the VC. Enjoy your free haircuts though!

I'm shooting 48% from three with a max wingspan 6'10 pure lockdown, my three point rating when boosted is 61 and I take about 3-4 a game I don't even bother taking standing layups anymore, they have flipped what a good shot and a bad shot is, we've reached a point in 2k where a 30 foot three has a better chance of going in than a second chance layup.

Labbed the hell out Kareem in the freestyle practice mode. The excellent release for a standing layup is the MOMENT they leave the ground. Second tip, don't bother with holding turbo to try to do a standing dunk unless you have a Shaq like player.

Honestly man, I would say most of the ones you took should have been makes and most of the ones I took should have as well. The thing is, I could make a video of me hitting open standing layups too - I don’t miss all of them. I just miss way more than I should. My issue is the success rate appears significantly lower than it should be which is detrimental to the inside game.

It does appear you’re onto something with the early releases as most of mine are late. I’ll have to try that myself. But I don’t really think being a bit early or a bit late should be what determines if you can hit an open layup.

Got a quick question about this update. Mike said its some "thin" bar under your player that tells you how you're playing D? Idk but i'm not seeing it at all. I've been online, but it's like I haven't got the update? Do you only see it in online games or something?

Its just the defensive mechanics in the game, when you have USER defenders around you and they jump, it doesn't always visually look like they are affecting the shot, like having their hands contesting near your wrist or release point, but its an area of effect, so it severely lowers the percentage of shots like standing layups, and because people are already always standing near the rim, all they do is see someone with the ball down there, and they jump, there is no actual precision factored in when you jump to contest shots under the rim, they would need to work on the defense mechanics down there to fix that problem online.

We're both showing videos of our experiences. We cant discount one side because it doesnt align with our view. I definitely get your issues here. I dont make all of mine either, that's why I showed non replay, raw footage and my finishing percentage. 7-12 overall. 7-9 on standing layups. (I still have it recorded, I can upload my misses too) I also have more like it. I just try and suggest
some things in the meantime to curb the frustration.

I definitely agree with your second point. Whether some are more successful or not, something is off with the meter, which is supposed to be there for us to follow. I didnt like 2K17 all that much, but I felt like the layup meter timing made more sense. Hopefully its something Mike can figure out....

I'm more talking about the thin bar under the player though. Mike said it's white but changes color depending on the effectiveness of contest. Like it can change yellow or red to represent light or heavy contest. I don't see this thin bar at all under my players when i'm defending though.

I definitely appreciate the suggestion, fam. I’ll try to incorporate it into my game and see if I get better results.

I wasn’t trying to discount your experience so I apologize if it came off that way. I’m definitely convinced there is an issue with standing layups, especially open ones, but if someone thinks I’m exaggerating it they’re totally entitled to that opinion. Not everyone’s experience will mirror each other’s.

Releasing early definitely helps. It kind of throws me off though when I’m doing post shots .

All good bro. We both agree something should be tweaked.

When Mike first said we could turn off the meter for layups I though he meant online as well and people who wanted to be precise with their finishing had the option....maybe it should be?

Yeah that's the thing about it...I use it for quick hit situations but other situations require precise timing so it kind of throws you off. Exactly why I am off on my fades/hooks sometimes...

It's not a solution really, I'm just trying to save some controllers from being broken in the meantime...

Yea me neither..was hoping to get used to it by playing career games.

I do feel a difference in shot contest though even if its a small sample size.
