Exactly. 2K Sports have access to NBA stats like everyone else. The highest 3PT% in the NBA is 53%, and his shots are mostly wide open created by good ball movement and NOT going back and forth behind screens. I know, because that player plays for the Pacers, and I watched all their games this season.

Who cares what people THINK should be the percentages. There is hard data out there to base the game on. Period. Hell, most gamers will understand if the percentages are a little bit higher, since it's still a videogame. However, shooting above 70% shouldn't be a consistent thing.

Who cares? How about 2k? THEY care. Turn off enough casuals by being too "sim" and the other game will benefit $$$$

Besides of they want to market their game as “pro gaming”, which is a possibility if they want to build on the 2k league, then fixed shooting percentages will never be a thing.
It adds too much rng for pro flavouring

They have to let people warp for shot contests because the alternative is letting people run rampant with the screen -> one dribble -> open 3.

Whichever year 2k decides to scrap their screen animations and create ones that actually represent real life, they are going to have to have bandaid fixes like this. Watch any game and 95% do not leave the ball handler wide open unless they are driving hard to the basket. Scroll through this and watch Steph explain how you properly must maneuver with a screener as a ball handler in order to get open.

          https://www.masterclass.com/articles...-up-the-screen

This is opposed to 2k in which you can just strafe left and right and the defender gets completely obliterated by the screen and can't come back into play because of backwards defensive movement animations. You don't have to be a good ball handler or anything (as evidenced by sharps and stretch 4's being able to score 100 points per game off of this strategy)
Well if it is indeed as a bandaid to the defensive movement, good point. I'm keeping my fingers crossed all this stuff will be addressed and made more realistic at least by next gen 2k. More realistic defensive footwork and screen animations.

It really depends on who you’re marketing to. If you’re marketing to the same people who watch Fortnite streams, then you’re probably right. They want to see the best shooter in the world go 30 for 30 for 90 points. If you’re marketing to NBA or basketball fans, they’re going to be turned off by inflated stats and shooting percentages and gameplay that doesn’t resemble the game they love. It’s a legitimate point you make though. They very well might be marketing to the Fortnite crowd since I’m not sure if real basketball fans have an interest in watching a video game representation of it, even if it was more sim.

Progamers only care about winning. They will cheese the hell out of the mechanics.

Rng is the bane for progamers because it takes away control

Re: NBA 2K19 Patch 1.06 Available Now - Patch Notes Here

One thing should be clarified in this discussion as well. “Balance” and “Simulation” are two entirely different things. 2K19 is currently unbalanced because open jumpshots are incredibly accurate from good shooting builds. 2K could balance the game by simply making inside scoring super effective for finishing builds kinda like standing dunks were the past couple of years. This wouldn’t make the game more “sim-like” however.

Video game developers typically strive for balance in online competitive games. They want more than one build/class/strategy to be viable. A “meta” will always form regardless but developers don’t want it to be so strong that it’s basically the only way to play if you want to win. More variety increases the longevity of a game and keeps players engaged.

NBA 2K faces a more difficult challenge in that they’re also trying to replicate a real life sport. Sports aren’t always balanced. A team full of slashers would get destroyed in the NBA whereas a team full of shooters will be much more viable. So do you tune the game to make slashers and shooters relatively equal or do you tune it to represent the NBA where, in most cases, shooters are more versatile? It’s a unique problem that sports games face.

My problem with the current state of the game is that it’s neither balanced nor simulation when it comes to the online gameplay. It’s not balanced as you can realistically build a team with 4 shooters and 1 Rebounder and beat 95% of teams (or run shooters behind screens in the case of PNO or Myteam). And it’s niot simulation since while outside shooting is definitely prevalent in abundance in the NBA, it’s not the only viable strategy and it’s not always more effective than punching it inside. Most NBA teams use a mix of both to open things up for different players and you rarely see more than half a teams points come from 3s.

It's online competition. I swear that NBA 2K is the only game where they "dumb down" the mechanics or simulation experience to attract bums. Off the top of my head, I feel that most games do have popular tactics and weapons, but it's rare where one thing completely overpowers all the other tactics and weapons in a game to the point where you feel like a fool for not following everyone else.

Does the CPU do matchup adjustments anymore? I could’ve sworn on 2k18, you would have someone like Jimmy Butler guarding LeBron late in the game regardless of their positions. I know for a fact the past few years when you played the 91 Lakers vs 91 Bulls, Scottie Pippen would guard Magic full court the entire game. This year, John Paxon guards Magic and gets eaten up! Also, the 88 Pistons don’t even have the option to use the Jordan Rules against the 88 Bulls, which makes no sense whatsoever.

First, we haven't even got the 1.04 patch yet, which is beyond frustrating. And you guys might joke about PC, but I paid $60 for this game as well, same as you. I expect to get the same updates in a timely manner as the console users.

For 2k to ignore us (I was told by support there is no ETA for a future patch) like this is unacceptable to me.
