What I find odd is that when you venture into the madden forums you see people crying over and over about how many resources are pumped into MUT and not Franchise mode. Nobody bats an eye at those complaints. Yet, when someone like myself simply says I hope that this didn't take a substantial amount of resources from other areas of the game or else I really question the decision we get railed for having that opinion. I'm not going to sit here and see legacy issues or bugs and say, "Thanks WNBA" when I play 2k20, so people that keep making that argument can just stop. It's a silly argument to make. All we are saying is that IF this took a good effort to implement and took a lot of focus off of other areas that get more playtime then you wonder why they made the decision. Again, that is an IF. You, me, nobody here really knows if this took them 3 days to do and didn't change their plans with the rest of the game. We don't know if this was a huge task and we aren't going to get much more added to the game in terms of new features or polish because of it. None of us know that. Those of us questioning this addition are only saying that IF this is the latter situation then it is a questionable decision.

There is plenty of rage over the hypothesis that MUT takes away from the entire game haha. It takes up entire threads, so I think users are more than batting eyes at that debate.

But my central thought is, how do you measure what is being taken away from the game by adding WNBA without knowing the entire development system? Even after release? Is it the eye-test, or is it something you feel for if some part of the game is weaker from it? I feel like it is as equally likely that the WNBA is really sub-par in 2K20 because there weren't enough resources dedicated to it (which would be the worst of all outcomes, and I would definitely have problems with). Without intimate knowledge of the development team's allocation of resources, what is the determining factor? Is it so far away from feasibility that they were able to add the WNBA and make meaningful improvements to the game as a whole? 15 new staff members could have been hired to work on solely the WNBA, or not. All I'm saying is "how would we know, factually?" It just seems like fighting ghost issues.

I think that is a very valid concern, no argument there whatsoever. But it's really an "if 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts" situation because I don't think it is likely that anyone would ever know for sure. Don't think I am directing this at you because you have elaborated your points well, but through this thread, there has been a whole lot of "this is robbing the game!" with a lot certainty that can't be backed up.

Exactly, it is a lot of if's and that is why I am not overly worried about it, but it seemed to stir some people up when saying I hope this didn't take a lot of resources from other areas because if it did then I question the decision.

That’s my wish, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m thinking it’ll be like Live where it’s just exhibition games. I’d absolutely love a MyLeague though with a draft and everything.

I don't usually venture outside the Madden and football forums too often, but I had heard about the news regarding the WNBA being in NBA 2K20 and was pretty pleased to see it. I was curious about how OS was reacting to the news, and seeing the wild responses on this thread about the WNBA being included is unbelievable. This idea about "wasting" or "misappropriating" resources in game development is unsubstantiated until release and probably not even quantifiable. How do you measure that? "I saw this glitch in the game, and it would have been fixed if not for the WNBA"? It is the beauty of options and customization. Making the game accessible and fun for anyone. It's one of the reasons why I can play 2K year-long and other sports games fade out after their seasons' end.

Will I play with the WNBA? Likely not, maybe once or twice. But I really like that it is in because I will never sneer at more options being available and having more people feel represented in the game they want to play. I'm all for it.

Those dudes don't have an answer for any of your questions. Apparently we have spies from OS that sit in on 2K Development meetings since they know how all time is being used by each and every team within the company.

I know the dude "Da_Czar" is a spy in 2K's officies but I am not aware of any of these dudes in here.

Well don't say none of us, and the fearmongering by some is not warranted.

A first year implementation is never going to be the whole shebang in the first place.

Sometimes it's a matter of getting a good foundation or skeleton of what you want to do established.

But we already know this because it's been done in the past plenty of times.

NBA 2K20 Will Feature the WNBA

Was going to skip out on NBA 2K20, but this WNBA talk has made me rethink that decision. I love supporting the WNBA. I buy WNBA League Pass, I watch the games & I buy some of the merchandise. Only thing that irritates me about the league is that there's no team near Mississippi that I can support in person. (Would love seeing a team set up shop in Memphis and/or New Orleans).



With that being said, if implemented right, I will be making multiple builds of female characters for MyPark. I personally wouldn't be mad if 2K allows women to get off crazy dunks at the park. I mean you have dudes with all kinds of crazy builds hitting 3 point shots from half court at ease so why not make it somewhat arcadey for female characters...



The chance of making a Sue Bird style character for Park has me hyped. Will be nice to see what type of clothing they add as well. (Jordans that only come in women sizes, WNBA jerseys that can be rocked by both male & female characters, etc)

I'm in the northern part of Mississippi. Would have to drive 6 hours to Atlanta just to watch the Dream. That's why I would prefer a team be placed in Memphis (2 hours away) or New Orleans (4 hours and a half away).

Yes, this will be baked in. Yes, this addition is to please the social media PC crowd, most who will not buy the game. Yes, this is a waste of time. Anybody thinking this addition will be anymore than a few teams added to play in exihibition will be severely disappointed.

The pandering to fringe outrage groups for sake of "diversity" is hurting development, and storytelling, in games. After all, we are talking about California, where people poop in the streets, inject heroin and throw the needles on the streets, and poverty has gotten so bad that shanty towns have taken over. However, isn't awesome that 2K is adding womenz? I don't know how people are so blind to this corporate pandering scheme.

I agree with everyone who says that the WNBA should be its own published game, I support that. Then the focus will be to make an authentic experience, in the same way they did for College games. You know why they won't? It won't make any money, so shoehorning something into the NBA product can make them look like they're woke and virtuous. Don't be useful idiots. If 2K cared about the women's league, they'd take a risk and truly make an authetic product of its own.

I know I will get slack for this "alt-right" and "bigoted" "sexist" opinion, but I don't care. I've been with this series since NBA Action 98, was once a moderator for the 2KSports forums, and this rapid culture change, where gender and race became more important than quality storytelling and making a great product, will continue to negatively affect the entertainment industry.
