NBA 2K20 Will Feature the WNBA

Yes, this will be baked in. Yes, this addition is to please the social media PC crowd, most who will not buy the game. Yes, this is a waste of time. Anybody thinking this addition will be anymore than a few teams added to play in exihibition will be severely disappointed.

The pandering to fringe outrage groups for sake of "diversity" is hurting development, and storytelling, in games. After all, we are talking about California, where people poop in the streets, inject heroin and throw the needles on the streets, and poverty has gotten so bad that shanty towns have taken over. However, isn't awesome that 2K is adding womenz? I don't know how people are so blind to this corporate pandering scheme.

I agree with everyone who says that the WNBA should be its own published game, I support that. Then the focus will be to make an authentic experience, in the same way they did for College games. You know why they won't? It won't make any money, so shoehorning something into the NBA product can make them look like they're woke and virtuous. Don't be useful idiots. If 2K cared about the women's league, they'd take a risk and truly make an authetic product of its own.

I know I will get slack for this "alt-right" and "bigoted" "sexist" opinion, but I don't care. I've been with this series since NBA Action 98, was once a moderator for the 2KSports forums, and this rapid culture change, where gender and race became more important than quality storytelling and making a great product, will continue to negatively affect the entertainment industry.

Please tell me more about this hurting the development of the game with specific details and in depth analysis. While you’re at it, please give me detailed information on the financial breakdown of what the inclusion of this cost, what they couldn’t afford due to it, what percentage of the overall budget size is dedicated to it, also how about the size of the dev team, and their billable hours, as well as what portion of those hours were spent on this. I would greatly appreciate it.

You can not like the WNBA. You can not care at all this is in the game. You can hold your terrible opinions. But. This has to be the most ridiculous response I’ve seen to this in a thread full of ridiculous responses. Stop. Purporting. Your propaganda. As fact. So hyperbolic. There are areas of entertainment where women have been shoe horned in for inclusions sake, I will agree to an extent. But this is a NBA owned league. It is an official partner. NBA is in the name. There is no reason this shouldn’t be in the game. Would a stand-alone sell well enough to justify it? Likely not. But them choosing to acknowledge that, and include it in this should not be such a problem for you people.

You know why this is happening in NBA 2K20? Because the league is partners with the NBA and what better way for the WNBA to gain more exposure than to be put into a video game played by millions of people. It's that simple. You don't have to like it but you also shouldn't overreact about it either like cvantu just did in his post.

Me and my friend always do tournaments with teams in the game and I would love to see what kind of stuff can come from us doing a WNBA tournament.

This day and age people will shoehorn their ideology into anything in a weak attempt to be a victim of something...anything. It's all the rage now. Usually it's the ones who themselves cant stand PC culture; all the while being the biggest, loudest, most persistent crybabies ever.

2k added Takeover to 2K19. I honestly dont think I ever say anyone even hint at wanting a feature like that in "sim" NBA 2K. It was added to the game, though. I'm sure it took up dev time. MyLeague had a LOT of bugs last year. Some were mode crippling like GLegue guys progressing faster than top 5 picks. I could act like an entitled know it all and speculate that 2K added Takeover "to get little Timmy to use daddy's credit card for microtransactions," and that it worked to the detriment of MyLeague. I dont have any facts to support that. I dont know, or care, what if anything the two things had to do with each other.

I'll also add that I had no clue that the Euroleague was even a thing until 2K added it in 2K14. After seeing and playing with the teams in 2K, I started visiting Euroleague.net to keep up with the actual league and players. I do to this day. It's not the NBA but its basketball and unlike the variety the sport provides. The Euro teams were a throw in. You couldn't at any point do anything substantial with the Euro teams in NBA 2K. By the end they had players the wrong height (Keith Langford was 7 feet in one game...) and race. It really felt like a forgotten thing. The WNBA may very well share the same fate. But what does it hurt at the end of the day?

The exposure only benefits the WNBA and gamers. These fine champions of whatever the heck they think they're protecting are still buying NBA 2K20, so 2K isnt losing anything. And like you and others have said, it's the NBAs property, if they want to push it (or the Gleague or 2K League) that's their prerogative.

Do you guys think this move will bring more eyes to the WNBA on a nightly/weekly basis? I'm not being facetious, I'm genuinely asking. Do you think it may have been as much of the NBA's idea to do this as it was 2k's? The league needs any help it can get because it is still losing money annually, so I would not be surprised if the NBA had a big hand in getting this into the game to try and bring more attention to the league.

I dont think that it'll lead to a huge spike in people watching the WNBA. Itll give it some more exposure, but the product has to sell itself. I dont think NBA 2K will do anything more than ESPN has advertising the league. I could see it grabbing some fans though, the same way the Euroleague inclusion did for me. And I wouldn't be surprised if the NBA pushed for the WNBA. NBA 2k sells 10 million copies, so theres potential there. Plus it has the added benefit of adding female ballers into the game.

Probably a solid guess. From the NBA's perspective, they get some more eyes on another of their products (and maybe add some fans, though I wouldn't expect mind-blowing numbers). From a 2K perspective it's a new feature that adds more gameplay value for some segment of players, and they take a point of differentiation (as minor as it is) from Live.
