Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here

Note: Haven’t played 2K19 or 2K20; still on 2K18. I’ve watched youtube videos and read feedback on here.

Let me give you my impressions from the outside looking in:

    Positives:
Excellent graphical upgrades. I love how they have more uniforms in the jersey select screen, in addition to selecting accessory colors globally. Added more legends and classical teams. Stamina means something.

    Negatives:
No All-Star Team-Up game mode. 99 Under The Basket Tendency still exists. Can’t add/remove headbands: in 2k18, you at least have the choice in MyLeague. 30-Team Control isn’t what it was, but I see some of you guys complaining.

    Summary:
Can’t really comment on gameplay, but since I am so content with 2K18, I am looking more towards the window dressing. I am more of an offline player besides All Star Team Up.

    Final Verdict:
Wait and see. Maybe a patch can fix some of these glitches and I’ll hop on the bandwagon.

I’m an idiot. They DO have Free Throw Difficulty for the User in sliders this year. Don’t have a cpu slider but this is great. Needs to be harder this year imo.

Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here

I've gotten a few games in as well as gone through rosters and menus. Here are my initial thoughts:

-Overall I love the feel of the gameplay. Twitter will eventually destroy it but it feels pretty good now.

-Help defense has made some strides. Guys are rotating and recovering. The AI is quicker to recognize what you as the user is doing on defense and adjusts to you, such as switching faster even when a switch wasn't called yet you aren't leaving the man.

-It's currently pretty easy to score especially driving to the rim, but I haven't played on HOF yet nor have I touched sliders. Shot blockers are the best they've felt in a long time though.

-My most glaring complaint about gameplay at the moment is ACE's use of double teams. As the Warriors, the Raptors doubled D'Angelo Russell from baseline to baseline for 44 minutes after i hit 3 shots with him. He ended with 20 points, but I scored the easiest 46 points with Steph and 28 with Klay because the CPU for whatever reason felt the need to hard double D'Angelo the second he touched the ball anywhere, leaving Curry and Thompson wiiiide open over and over. It's awful because it overshadows and ruins how good the AI defense looks otherwise. The double team animations and reactions are improved, but allowing me to play 4 on 3 every single possession is killing the enjoyment of playing the AI right now.

-Other than the double teams, this is the most enjoyable out of the box AI experience ever. The way the AI attacks me offensively is alot more intelligently aggressive rather than cheesy, and this is without any roster edits or slider adjustments yet. If they can get rid of the mindless double teaming, this is gonna be a fun year!

-Took me 1 half to adjust to the extra button needed to call plays. I'm a fan of the options we have at our disposal. However are we not able to call for a quick pnr by a specific player now? Could only seem to call for a quick screen by the nearest 4 or 5.

-Love the strides made regarding accessories this year. Both the inclusion of new gear and the very cool ability to choose what colors to wear pre game as this is a feature that many of us have specifically asked for for years. Shoes are still forgotten, as there's even less colorways on new shoes now and STILL not being able to edit headbands is crazy.

-EXTREMELY upsetting that CAP is exactly the same this year. Not including new hairstyles at least or the body type editor from MyPlayer is inexcusable. This may not seem like a big deal to some, but if you made draft classes, you'd understand. It's pretty ridiculous that draft class prospects are going to look exactly the same this year, especially when these hairstyles aren't nearly adequate to cover how these 15-17 year olds look.
It makes it worse that the clueless wonder Ronnie said in a stream there were new hairstyles this year. I haven't checked what's in MyPlayer yet, but if that's where the hairstyles are, you guys know there's this whole other NBA side of the game besides MyPlayer right??

-Most guys that were CAPs last season are still CAPs, and they're even the same CAP smh.

-The simulation sliders for MyLeague are awesome! I haven't tested them out yet but having that much control over sim stats is crazy and much appreciated.

-STILL the same jersey creator, which means no Nike template jerseys or Nike socks.

-Removing the ability to edit (or even see) jumpshot release speed in edit player and making it a badge instead is the epitome of the development team doing something for MyPlayer purposes and then not considering if it makes sense to affect NBA rosters as well. As is seeing every damn green release. Makes me not want to do sig edits this year.

-Mike Wang said they removed Shot Contest rating... um no actually it's in edit player. Like Reaction Time, it just isn't editable in Quick Edit, you have to go into Edit Player.

-Whomever put the ratings in order in the menu just hit shuffle. Pass Accuracy isn't next to Vision and Pass IQ, Help D and Pass Perception are in random spots. Little thing but a nuisance for roster editors.

-Multiple MyLeague bugs such as the 99 Shot Under Basket Tendency bug still exist. I haven't looked into MLO online or draft classes yet but if the Quick Edit height swap glitch and age glitches are still there I'm gonna lose it. This is ridiculous and inexcusable as these are all bugs that were complained about for literally an entire cycle. I mean hey, but the seasons change in the neighborhood.

I'm sure I'll have more later especially once I dive into MyLeague but overall if I could describe 2k20 in one word it would be "funny." The reason I say this is because it may end up being my favorite 2k of all time yet may piss me off the most lol. Like it has little things that I've wanted for years such as sim stat sliders, accessory color choice on gameday but then has a bunch of **** that really makes me mad such as the same CAP which means the same exact draft classes but without the ability to use carry over saves. The gameplay is the best it's ever been including the smartest AI that I can remember, but then the AI double teams your secondary scorer for 47 minutes. I laugh and I cry lol. Feel like if they had 1 more month of development I could say that 2k20 is the best of all time. I really hope there is a patch coming with new CAP hairstyles and new scans for NBA players who have been CAPs for 2 years. Even just that would make such a huge difference for me.

          I like 20 and hated 19.

Left stick is legit. I love being able to see the CPU shot feedback. The CPU not hitting perfect releases on HOF, on every shot, is refreshing. The CPU also is serious about protecting the paint, which is a good thing.

My only complaints (so far) are that the HOF Cpu doesnt turn the ball over enough, and they make to many contact layups.

That is another little thing that sim people will notice and you can assign who you want to run that play for On those quick plays

Could you elaborate on this? One of my pet peeves was the lack of fouls and FTA across the board in MyLeague. The league-leader in ML would typically only average 6-7 FTA

Don't forget, this is tied to the Ball Control rating. It has a certain threshold that tells the AI whether or not to bring the ball up or pass it when they get a defensive rebound.

Or at least that's how it was in 2K19. So it could be a relatively easy fix.

No disrespect to anybody, but isn't that kinda how it works? I've always called my plays as soon as I inbound the ball, way before I hit half-court.

Sim Sliders is worth the game for me

It’s a extra step now because you have to hold bottom which takes time

This is sounding like a first day buy? I didn't love 2k19. How is it on ps4? I just expected a roster update. But sounds like a different game.

When there's a loose ball.....it's really loose....I like the scrambling for the ball this year. On occasion it still ends up with the CPU, but I can say I'm seeing more 50/50 ball situations than I have in any other previous 2k title. I'm loving the game right now and yes I agree double teams need a slight tone down.
