Re: How does the OS community feel about shooting in NBA 2K20?

I haven't touched the 5 on 5 games yet, so I can't really say for certain.

From the MyCareer/ProAm/Rec/Park perspective, I don't think we can really answer the question yet since people don't have their badges up yet.

I will say that I enjoy the shooting the way it is right now far more than I did in 2K19. The shooting percentages in 19 were absolutely ridiculous. I'm suffering for it so far in 20, but like I said, I'm much happier with where it is right now than I was with last year's iteration.

Re: How does the OS community feel about shooting in NBA 2K20?

I'm going to pretty much post the same thing that I posted in the PNO thread. First, we have to recognize that there are TWO types of shooting...shot meter off versus shot meter on. The assumption (hasn't been 100% confirmed by Mike Wang) is that the bonus with the shot meter off is you'll get a larger excellent green window release, but it's at the cost of a stiffer penalty if you don't get a green release. Also keep in mind that distance does have an impact on your base shooting rating. Honestly, I think this has more of an impact on 3PT shooters than those who shoot mid-range jumpers. IMHO, a mid-range shot is a mid-range shot, and I don't think the game changes the base rating for a long 2. I could be wrong, so don't hold my feet to the fire on that one.

With the shot meter on and being a PNO player, I like where the shooting percentages are at on open shots. I don't have any real complaints, and feel that the shooting percentages fall into realistic percentages most times than not. In fact, I think I shoot at an incredible rate with the meter on. Of course, the shot meter makes it easier, because I don't have to "learn" any of the players shooting animations. Also, I don't feel like anyone and their momma can shoot 3's. I tend to focus defensively on players who have 3PT ratings above 80.

With the shot meter off, I can't buy a bucket, lol. I truly believe that the penalty for mistimed shots is too harsh. As a result, I more hesitant to shoot jumpers, and I feel that I naturally gravitate towards wanting to score most of my points inside the paint which obviously makes zone defense that much more effective. For me, I think they just need to do away the the penalty for mistimed shots, and maybe keep the bonus of the green release window. However, that would be selfish want on my part, because I was shooting pretty good in NBA 2K19 without the shot meter. On the other hand, the shooting mechanics and probability is not the same as NBA 2K19, so the bonus might be a nice incentive to have.

        Regarding the shot meter:

"(Turning it off) increases the (green) window and boosts good shot timing but also nerfs bad timing. If you struggle with shot timing I wouldn’t turn it off. But if you know your timing well you’ll see higher %s".

I read this to mean that it's not just green releases that have a higher likelihood of going in, so I'd guess the slightly releases are probably still boosted. Early or Late seem to certainly be nerfed.

Got bored and decided to read Twitter comments....

So, people REALLY believe that full whites/bars is the same as an excellent release?

Re: How does the OS community feel about shooting in NBA 2K20?

I am shooting with the meter off and the results are little bit lower than when using the meter on, but I can still compete. However I thin it is not totally fair, IMO the buff should be wider (in shooting release window) and perhaps the nerf should disappear, specially when shooting free throws I still note a significant difference in favor of shot meter on...

For the record I shoot with the RS, never use the button for shooting as I think it is not "organic"... LOL

                Cheers! ;-)

Pretty sure there is no such thing as a full white bar anymore. There's always an arrow showing early or late. I feel like in previous seasons you could get a 'full white' with no indicator, but not anymore.

I only play offline, but I feel shooting is pretty good as is, so I hope they dont start messing with it, and they break in one way or the other, as they have in the past, when tweaking the shooting.

Granted some there is probably a few too many misses under the basket, than there should be, but I think its better than it has been at times in the past.

We should post the modes we're talking about so there's no confusion here.

I play exclusively PNO so H2H against other players is what i'm referencing. I'm simply not qualified to speak on other modes--for shooting in any offline modes you can use sliders.
NOTE: Any and ALL of my suggestions are specifically and only related to Play Now Online.

I like the percentages, I just have a little beef with the feedback loop. It does seem like "very early" is perhaps rewarded more than the "just early" releases. Just make the results consistent with the feedback and I'm good -- again, maybe I'm the only one seeing it, but I am seeing it.

I also do think the feedback loop doesn't quite make sense that no meter should mean "green or bust" because the whole point of no meter is you're trying to get close without it. I don't think you need a bonus either, but you shouldn't get a negative for non-green with no meter because you're doing it by eye not by watching a meter. Just make meter and no meter the same if anything rather than give a larger green window but a negative result otherwise for no meter -- assuming that is how the system is setup, which is what has been mentioned on here prior. I especially say that because the suspense is not there with no meter when you either know 100 percent it's going in with full green or 15 percent it's going in if you don't hit green.

sim-head and offline only player and Im struggling with shooting this year. Still winning at a high percentage but not with shots I run through my offense. Ive never been great at shot timing but I always turn off as many indicators when I play.

Im getting better with timing but I hit more shots I shouldnt hit.

Probably the first time in gaming history but the cpu is struggling also. They dont stand a chance unless I play stupid(or greek freak).

Funny after a game the percentages are damn near perfect. I honestly rather struggle/get better vs 2k f-ing it up. Playing on HOF

Luckily im on pC and can save .exe files.

I hope you're right. I turned it on so I wouldn't be punished for not getting green releases and the meter is so distracting. I have it set to the feet so it doesn't bother me while I look at the follow through and my eyes still shift to it when I shoot.

Gotta factor in the momentum system lurking in the background, lol.

I'll hit every decent look at a jumper for a half a quarter. CPU calls time out. Now I miss 4 straight wide open jumpers, and 3 straight lightly contested layups with "slightly" early/late releases. I now wanna go online and demand the shooting be fixed. It happens every game.

I've kinda' reconciled the fact that when the background algorithm decides its time for you to start missing shots...all the meter and timing considerations are moot. Hotzone/wide-open or green releases are the only shots going in until you can break their mojo boost.

Personally, I absolutely love this aspect of the game. My 50 year old hand/eye aint what it used to be...but I know if I play smart, and read the flow of the game, I can get around it.

Also, not my shooting personally, but in my MyCareer games, I swear my teammates are literally shooting almost 0% on jumpshots. The only time we ever score is if I'm making a jumper or it's a shot at the rim/free throws. I'm fine with where it is in the Pro-Am/Rec/Park games, and I'm fine with my own shooting in MyCareer games, but man, it's brutal with these teammates lol.
