Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
After about 3 weeks of playing I would say next gen rec is a very mixed bag for me at the moment
Positives- Most builds can shoot (since shooting is so cheap on the builder) which naturally makes spacing much better than 2k21 current gen (where shooting was a premium and you often had 2-3 non shooters on your team each game).
- Teammate grade being the main driver of rep is an improvement on the system (although most randoms don't seem to take this into account).
- It is naturally quicker (once you hit All-Star1 and can set your spawn point to the Rec center) to load into games.
Neutral- You don't have any negative impact from quitting. From a competitive standpoint I admit this is bad... but I also like it as some protection from lagouts (which even if they occurred in the 4th quarter would just tank your stats). I also will admit it makes it more appealing to bring 95+s into REC too since you get penalized a ton at 98-99 overall if you lose, even if you play a great game individually
Negatives- 60 overall AIs. Needless to say having 1 or 2 of these on your team will make your life much harder. Since this is such an easy thing for them to fix it actually frustrates me they haven't done anything about it.
- Since everyone can kind of do everything, seems like over-dribbling is more of a problem. Basically positions 1-4 (and sometimes even 1-5) have fairly good ball-handling this year, so you get a lot more people that want to "prove themselves" which essentially results in people taking turns trying to iso. I know some people will argue that "Iso is the most skilled offensive style", if we are talking about 2k21 current gen I would agree with you, isoing was much tougher than pick and roll... in next-gen though given the demi-god build system it is remarkably easy. All in all the iso-heavy 2ks have always been the most boring.
- Even the lame 92 overall based matchmaking has been axed, and there is no matchmaking of any kind. The old matchmaking system was very flawed, but it at least was something. I fear we will never get a squad-sized based matchmaking system which would be ideal.
- Stat problems remain. This is minor in the grand scheme of things, but it is still frustrating how we can't have stats work in REC year after year... you would think someone on the dev team could crack this after YEARS of the same problem
The 60 overall AI problem should become less of an issue as more people get the new consoles, but the fundamental matchmaking problem (which was the impetus for this thread's creation) seems like it is not something 2k cares about and is my biggest concern going forward.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Agree on basically everything. As much as I’ve criticized the Demi god builds, they DO result in much better spacing. Offense is generally more fluid than a lot of years where, if you ended up with 3 or more slashers, things turned ugly in the half court real fast. I’ve seen more drive and kick than I’ve seen in any other game by far.
I would generally put the quitting as a negative because I’ve already had tons of games where I’ve had to turn on my mic to tell my teammates to stop doubling the last guy who hasn’t quit or where I’ve basically had to play matador defense to keep a guy from quitting in the 4th quarter. On the other hand, I’ll admit I’ve quit a few games where I came in and the other team was clearly a squad running zone and 5 out from the first possession. I’ve honestly softened my stance a bit on people squading up and coming into Rec. But I still think it’s weak to come in with a group you basically formed a Pro-Am squad with to compliment each other or to come in and start running zone and 5 out before you’ve even taken the measure of your opponent.
The 60 AIs is one of the most baffling design choices I can think of. The lack of stats in the matchup is abject laziness because there’s no way you can convince me it would be that difficult to remedy. If they can’t make it work right, why even have it there just displaying zeroes for 3 years running? It’s frankly almost insulting to leave it in there for this long without fixing it.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I imagine rec on NG will be better next year. They will undo what allowed demi God builds and it won't only be lucky/thirsry/rich or related to rich people on there.
I actually feared ps4 was gonna be affected but it's still popping. I heard ps5 pro w dual graphix is possible. Almost makes me wanna wait for that. Something that can push 4k for real. Aiyee. I wonder how long it'll be or how long the bots will be able to snatch them.
Lookin forward to seeing all you dudes on there tho. I hope the removal of deep hook badge doesn't mean you can't still hit hooks.

Thank God for All-Star 1 spawn points. Didn't know this was in this year til I got the popup. Cuts down on dashboarding time a lot.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I wonder if they'll nerf hook-shots. starting to see more and more guys with green-machine hooks. a lot under 90, so it's obviously catching on and guys are making new builds to increase the ppg lol.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
have yet to see people shoot hooks like me, those kinda hooks that give you only shooting badge points. I haven't really gotten a consistent trigger of green machine on hooks.
I think the hooks are balanced-ish because there aren't many builds that can get a good hook rating + badges. I don't think 85 or 80 is enough to really be a monster hook guy unless you're getting deep in the paint. 7'3 guys with backdown punisher who get baby hooks are tough, though, but that's the way it should be. Post NEEDS a weapon instead of blowing lay ups.
I haven't got a 90+ fade guy on CG so I can't speak to that, but hopefully those are also wet. The ability to hit 50% contested hooks, assuming you release very well, is a big plus in a game where dudes can hit fading/leaning mids all day, contact dunks all day, and deep 3s all day.
I still miss hooks, I pull the string. I take 'bad shots' so if someone closes at the last moment or I shoot a fade cuz I'm a foot too far... air ball.
But as someone who spent time, despite being a small guy, mastering the hook in real life, I feel that it's good to have a weapon. You can still contest it, the far out ones only work well because you are wide open. There is a sweet spot, though, cuz the closer you get to the rim, assuming Rec, the more congested it gets and you'll get stripped or heavy contested.
Badges that consistently trigger on CG are: pro touch, deep hooks, consistent finisher (always, even on green), and hot zone hunter. Green machine is on but I don't see it much. I mean the badges basically boost you so that people have to be guarded. Like 24 said (good look btw), you can't camp, and that's great. No more standing under the rim rebounding your own misses and hoping it goes in, or having to invest in a shaky mid.
Still tho, if people ran the build I'm running I think they would nerf hooks haha. Cuz people are babies, they can accept the contact dunks which have been in the game, and the 3s/brick walls, but... 17 foot hooks, whineee.
edit: these are the kinda hooks if people knew you could bang they'd be upset.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I'm back to the same 2k epiphany. It is bordering on insanity to play 2k and expect A. a simulation basketball experience or B. a balanced competitive environment.
I'm gonna post about the two Rec games that are leading to me taking an extended break. haha.
First gm I got matched with a legend and I was telling my boy, watch this I'm gonna work this dude. Our team was AWFUL. First half, player of the half, hitting hooks, stripping son, etc. I rolled 15 BOOSTS before the game, so there's that haha. I mean, can you imagine how many games you have to play to get legend? Second half, him and the other big are double teaming me, dudes can't get me the ball, taking stupid shots that lead to breaks, we get 'owned.' We didn't lose that badly but we lost by a decent amount.
Second game, it's just a total joke. People are awful, it seems like they all know what I wanna do (like they freaking scouted the last game I played), because they are all over me from the tip. It was good to get some good comp, but our team is not up to the challenge. About halfway thru the second, dude cuts on his mic and says... YO I GOT A FREAKING MODDED CONTROLLER PASS ME THE BALL. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YAWL?! And I was like... o word who said that, ok I promise you nobody is gonna pass you the ball. He got the ball a little, but it ended up with him sitting in the paint and getting 3 sec over and over.
So, in this game we have... badge grind, boosts, modded controllers... on top of that people who are just clueless. Like they should really find a way to let these guys play each other because we'd all have more fun. All that = uninstall.exe mindset.
I got my dude to 90, don't have maxed badges, but I got enough. I can do work. It's still not fun. It's fun in spurts, but in the end it always is disappointing. I think about 50% people in this thread, if they search their souls, they will find that they feel the same way.
Anyway! Peaceyawl for now.

I salute you walk on warriors, but expecting anything from these randoms is an exercise in futility. Sometimes you're lucky. At least you aren't on next gen with these bots.
Time to change your circumstances. The month after I quit rolling with strictly randoms my win % went from 48% to 70%...and I don't even care about win%, lol

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Dudes out here greening fade away threes like nothing, still, after the patch
Never seen more noobs score 20+ because of their builds and badges
Starting to think Badges are the devil. The gameplay was much easier for 2K to keep track of before these Badges. It was a good idea but with not much thought on the impact and basically it's reached the point of no return unless you wipe a lot of them out. I don't think 2K knows how to create a realistic game anymore even if they wanted to. And they don't want to. Park gameplay in Rec and Pro Am. Just watch the film. They've basically given the game to the community and said "it is what it is", "we think it's basketball but we're not sure what we're doing anymore". They're not trying to craft a basketball game, just microtransactions.
Where's Beluba to answer these Q's? Where is this company answering to the gameplay imbalance they've created. ....M.I.A.Comment
