Hopefully 2k continues to move forward and not backwards with the player builder.

The biggest thing this year is pf get 30 more badges really.

So how about next year when it comes to badges, everyone get 60 badge points and you decide where they go within the 4 categories.

That way people can upgrade what they want and not upgrade categories just to get certain badges.

In NBA 2K20, you least had an opportunity to try other builds and not get roasted if you're fairly decent at the game.

With the meta being the Zion Williams build on crack, you're taking a BIG risk trying to create another build and not getting roasted. I have a created a center that should (in theory) handle those builds in the paint, but...it won't/can't guard those builds on the perimeter due to the speed. Drop back, and they'll drop a 3 in your face. I will probably rarely see the ball on offense, because historically REC players don't pass to post-oriented players. That's too boring for them.

What's the advantage of creating a build that's NOT the meta?

This is why I shelved my Paint Beast for the time being. The Demi-PF builds were becoming so prevalent and more and more I was getting pulled away from the rim to cover them. Which was frankly a big challenge with no clamps and mediocre lateral quickness. I was still getting lots of rebounds and blocks but it was mostly when I’d get a more traditional matchup.

On the other side of the ball, my advantages were slim. I could hit decently from the corner or mid range but didn’t have the badge points or the attributes to be effective all over. I couldn’t really put the ball on the floor unless the lane was completely open because my ball handle was too low. I know a lot of bigger Centers will boast about how they can eat these PFs in the paint but it’s only partially true. Mine has Gold Intimidator and HoF Rim Protector so he’s not meat. They’re definitely susceptible to post moves and I’ve been cooked by a few bigs with them. But even if they go 7/9 on me and outscore me, they’re still cramping the spacing and making it difficult for anyone else to drive.

But really how many badges does one build need? "Hot shot" this "hot spot turbo boost" "dribble gawd unstoppable dribble plucker preventer". Then they stack for "superhero boost!!". This still a basketball game? Like cmon. Simplify this game so actual Comp can compete fairly, not bums who won the build lottery.

Yup...I'm in no rush to find out how effective I can be, and I'm too stubborn to go with the "If you can't beat them, join them" attitude.

Totally fair. Normally I just stick with my build. I just saw this as an opportunity to learn how to shoot and dribble more effectively. I started 2K back on 2K12 and pretty much exclusively played bigs in MyPlayer. So my skill set has become refined but narrow. This is helping round out my game.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.

I’m starting to fade fast here boys. I spend 30 minutes trying to get a game without AIs and then finally just accept having one. Load into the game and it’s a 5 man squad who instantly begin to iso up top or abuse the AI. It’s crazy but this is basically all that happens to me. One out of every 20 games I get a squad of randoms on both sides.

I know the solution is finding my own friends to squad up with but sometimes I just want to hop on without waiting for one guy to get back from target or another guy to finish his joint. This is the first year where it’s become virtually impossible to just jump into Rec by myself. I don’t even know if there is a solution here with the royal screw up with these PF builds. People who get this at Christmas will probably just make more PFs. This might be the earliest I ever bow out from a 2K.

The decision making on matchmaking was just...ugh.

Thing about 2K's player model is you can't really make any significant changes to it within the year because people dump $ into these builds. They really need to let people get theirs hands on the builder before finalizing it. Demigod PF's were solidified as the meta after about a week of the game being out.

It's really that bad? Damn...I guess I might as well stop working on my build if it's not going to be a PF.

Hence the reason why I will always be against giving players "ultimate control" on how to build their characters (for online modes) in ANY game. Sounds good from the "about the gamer, and they should be allowed to do whatever they want" perspective, but in practice players will ALWAYS ALWAYS create the most popular build/character for that respective game. Honestly, it shouldn't be a surprise that the Park/REC is overran with the PF build. We were calling it in the MyBuilder thread before the game was released.

Yep soo frustrating, I hate to say it but you almost have to "gauge" the competitiveness of the matchup and quit if it looks like it is going to be a blowout (since quitting has no negative consequences this year). I do feel sort of bad about quitting, but honestly I feel it is my only defense when 2k has such a garbage matchmaking system. And if I see the other team abusing our AI it is an insta-quit from me... if you don't have enough honor to play without cheesing the AI then I am not going to have enough "honor" to stay and play a full game with you.

For sure. We’re locked in now and there’s no going back. The only solution I can see is potentially filling the spots by height instead of position. Like PG Min-6’7, SG Min-6’7, SF 6’4-6’9 etc. At least you’d end up with less AIs that way.

It’s a shame because I think the gameplay is great. They just made some really shortsighted decisions with the builder and matchmaking and it’s basically FUBAR’d my favourite mode.

It’s no better to be a PF though from a Rec perspective unless you’re going in with a squad. The big positions (4 and 5) always fill up. It’s getting the rest of the positions filled that’s impossible. If you were strictly trying to get more games being a 1-3 would actually be better.

Totally man. I typically NEVER quit Rec games. I’ll play it out with all AIs and get my stats and take the L. This year, I quit all the time. Mostly at the squad introductions if it’s already evident what’s about to go down. The stock AIs are so abusable, it’s crazy. You can shoot over them all game and they basically do nothing on offense so whoever’s covering them can just double whoever has the ball. It becomes unplayable if you’re against anyone who’s comp at all.

Someone made a suggestion here, but have you guys thought about making a SG to abuse 25 interior defense builds? I've been a Center since 2k13, but since we can't get 95 Post Fade I don't even feel I can make a good post scorer. Also mentioned wasn't matching up with much faster 6'7 PFs.

How about build a Post Scoring SG? Only downside is your Post Control is on the lower side, I think 79 at 6'6.

Back on top with Centers, this guy seems pretty successful with REAL big men
