It's not a competitive mode either. That's what Pro-Am is for. Why should people be forced to face full 5 man squads that play zone defense, run plays, probably have played with each other for a long time, etc. Just have something for everyone and separate randoms from squads next year, simple.
Matchmaking in Rec is awful.

Considering its two teams facing each other. It's a competitive mode.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Dude just stop. You knew what I meant. Competitive as in people who play the game at a higher level for rank. Some of these squads (not all) should most definitely be playing in Pro-Am. You know damn well Jordan Rec is supposed to be more casual.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Bro, you act like I know what they’re testing. You can still get a feeling for how your character moves, reacts, shooting with a particular rating, etc. Who the hell knows. But you all sound pretty silly to me with all these conspiracy theories. Hell, I personally know some people who refuse to play with their players past 90 in MyCareer, and prefer to raise their player by playing Park/Rec.
And like I’ve stated before, sometimes people just might want to go out there with some friends and BS around. We sometimes hit the Rec with lineups like 2 PGs/3 SGs, while drunk/high and just having fun. Oh, I forgot, we should be forced to go to Pro Am, or a Rec Squad area because YOU and a small handful of people are unhappy. Okay.
Teams that bs around dont run comp strategies in public matches.
I know the difference.
I have been playing games for over 2 decades.
I ran with squads in the past.
Winning is always fun.
I could care less if 2K chances things or not.
I adapt to whatever any game i play decides or i stop playing it.
Like i said its usually me and 4 ai playing against a full 5.
Its squads who are msg me to quit which i refuse.
So what I suggest is not for me but for the randoms i play with and the squads that get stuck with me.....

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
A fully solo rec would be the saddest display of basketball to ever be shown. Do yall understand how horrible randoms are? Heavens no.
Do you guys forget that basketball is a TEAM sport? Stop trying to go in solo and have people to play with. But then again, if you still solo after all this time and havent found one person to play with... Well then I got some news for you.

But most of the times the games are the way you expect them to be when playing with stranger and some lack of communication.
The only times the games are actually bad, is when your group of randoms are facing a team full of tryhards coming in with 4 defenders playing zone and abusing the passing line steals.
And like you said, thank god I don’t encounter those a lot below 92
Now as to your arrogant, condescending asshat remark about people playing solo:
I know that as an American it is probably hard for you to imagine, but there are other landmasses on this planet.
Landmasses where there aren’t +300 million of people speaking the same language.
Where the playerbase is smaller because the sport is not that big as it is in the states.
Various of reasons why people might not always have a full group of 5 ready to go.
See how I typed that? I can be a condescending **** too. I doubt by writing it this way, I will have broadened your mind to see things from another perspective though. You might wanna learn from that.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I am %100 sympathetic to people sick of facing squads in rec. I hate it too when I'm playing solo.
Problem is, Pro-Am isn't all its cracked up to be. You can wait 10 minutes with no matchup in Pro-Am, often more (we often give up, leave, and come back into the pro-am gym and try again). And even if you get a game, 2/3rds of the time the other team is a bunch of dudes who aren't fielding a competitive team. A teammate of mine scored 120 points in a pro-am game this week and I'd say that overall we are maybe slightly above average.
Last night we spent 20+ minutes trying to get a pro-am game, then went to rec, got a game immediately, and lucked out, running into another squad that gave us a good fight.
I agree there should be more modes and matchup filters for both modes, or combine them with multiple tiers and filters.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
This whole discussion could be nixed with lobbies or locker rooms.
People who want to play comp could go into a ranked lobby.
People who want a more casual experience could go into an unranked lobby.
If you're with 2-3 people make a locker room and load directly into the Rec.
If you're solo you hit the door in the neighborhood.
See? I just gave everyone what they wanted.Comment

People who want to play comp could go into a ranked lobby. (Um, it's called Team Pro-Am.)
People who want a more casual experience could go into an unranked lobby. (It's called Rec. It's basically an unranked Pro-Am.)
If you-re with 2-3 people make a locker room and load directly into Rec. (Um, isn't that what you do already? You load into the Rec and you're waiting in the locker room until others join)
If you're solo you hit the door in the neighborhood. (You already have your choice with Park/Rec)
You really didn't offer a solution to what's already in place to cover all those needs. There's actually a couple solutions that could work that you haven't even mentioned.Last edited by Caelumfang; 05-09-2020, 01:01 PM.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I play solo rec all the time. Sure, you see crackheads from time to time.
But most of the times the games are the way you expect them to be when playing with stranger and some lack of communication.

Those types of randoms are the reason I play with others. And I refuse to go into the Rec with fewer than 3 people. That way, if they play like idiots, we can limit their touches to nothing more than wide open catch-and-shoots.Last edited by Caelumfang; 05-09-2020, 12:55 PM.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Solo matchmaking would be a lot better if it matched players by teammate grade. Doesn't COD Warzone(or some other competitive game) match up cheaters with other cheaters to keep them away from the general population? I want 2k to do that but in reverse. I average an A teammate grade but keep getting matched up with C rated teammates that couldn't care less about teamwork.
And to make matters worse they choose to matchmake by overall instead.Overall means nothing. I haven't had a 90 rated player since 2k17 and am able to compete against 99s without a problem. Teammate grade matters a lot more.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
In my opinion, in order to keep people from whining about Rec squads, there's a couple things that need to happen, but 2k refuses to do:
1.) You have to put a regulation-sized 5s court back into the Park. And if the score is going to go by 2s and 3s as opposed to 1s and 2s, then 2k has to use the variation of the game 21, which is called 33. This balances out the length of the game to roughly the same number of shots to win the game. This keep Park players in the Park who enjoy playing 5v5, and will more than likely increase the quality of randoms who want to play 5v5 in a more traditional 4-quarter game. And, of course, make the Rep growth worth the effort of playing longer games.
2.) Once again display your teammates' grades, stats, SHOT PERCENTAGES, and records. You may not always be 100% correct, but seeing those things can give you a pretty good indication of what type of player they are. You see a Sharp that shoots like 30% from three with a 20-350 record? Yeah, quite sure he's a mindless chucker with terrible shot IQ, so exit stage left. Who cares if it embarrasses them? Maybe it'll convince them to get better.
3.) Matchmake players with others around the same teammate grade. That way, keep the bums with the bums, while pairing others who are actually contributing and trying to win with others who are hopefully like-minded.
Is it perfect? No. But every little bit helps.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I'm trying to figure out why this situation is such a complicated matter? To me, it's simple. Squads of four or five people have one lobby. Randoms and squads of three and less have another lobby. You don't want to put too many more other filters on top of that, because it will increase the waiting time.
However, I do wish they had a 5v5 park court for quick matches. The problem with that is the court will have to be completely random with blind matchmaking. There's too much snobbery in the park for the court to have the traditional "got next' spots.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
Every park should have these:
one 4v4 full court
one 5v5 full court
one 1v1 half court for 6'5" and shorter players
one 1v1 half court for 6'6" to 6'9" players
one 1v1 half court for 6'10" and taller players
four 2v2 half courts
four 3v3 full courts
That would give players who don't have a full squad more ways to play together without having to go into the rec center.
I used to play a ton of the 4v4 court back in 2K17 but then it went away the next year and never returned for some reason.Comment

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.
I can personally say that me and some of the folks I play with on the regular sometimes hit the Rec with newer players, just to BS around and get a feel for our characters. I know I’ve deleted about 4 of my MyPlayers (including a my most recent 96 pure sharp) because I couldn’t stand how they felt. Too sluggish, couldn’t hit reliably, etc.
