As long as the two inside players can consistently make good reads you will get an open shot on most possessions just by having good spacing and ball movement.

That said, it is much tougher this year to get shots to register as open in the middle of the floor due to how overpowered the intimidator badge is, so it's best to run a 6'9" or shorter sharpshooter at the free throw line spot with steady shooter, deadeye, and quick draw all maxed out on hall of fame.

Post scorers are better off playing the block or the short corner since they have a slower shot release and less shooting badges.

But in a rec game with two inside bigs you might not have that luxury. And that's where it pays to have deep hooks or deep fades maxed out to hit those free throw line shots without having to actually take a jumper. If you have some guard with a low interior defense rating on you then those hook shots will be almost impossible for him to contest without a helper coming over.
or you can just be a floor spacer than go over the top of anyone in the paint regardless if their on fire or not.

      ITS math bro

You did all that video posting and typing

We’d hit 29 threes on you and you’d be down 20....even if the **** worked lmao

      It’s math.

I’ve never lost a game of 20 to two inside bugs

I’ve never lost a game of 20 to someone shooting free throw jumpers to break the zone

I’ve never lost a game of 20 to any team running sets and plays for 2 point field goals

Because we shoot 40 threes at a 60% clip.

To shoot 40 threes and make 60% you must be playing the most awful randoms/teams imaginable, are you seriously saying you can put up a 3PT attempt every 30 seconds for an entire game against even half decent competition?

I mean, you'll definitely win most games where you shoot 60% from 3 on 40 attempts. If the other team can't defend you any better than that, then they were probably going to lose regardless. That's not what this thread is about. The thread is about how to break a 2-3 zone in Rec. The most effective way of doing that is by putting your best playmaker/scorer at the free throw line. You might have an open midrange jumper, but it also stresses the zone horizontally, which can lead to kick outs for open 3s. It also sets you up to be able to run some pick-and-pop from around the pinch post area, though I'm not usually a big fan of on-ball screens against zones. You're usually better off spacing the floor, passing the ball into the middle of the zone, and then making the read from there.

Another advantage of using the high post against the zone is that passes tend to be safer. Passes thrown from the free throw line tend to have a shorter flight path than a pass from outside the 3-point line. This leads to fewer live-ball turnovers (as long as you're making good reads) and less wide-open dunks/3-pointers off of fastbreaks. Those open shots off of turnovers are where teams can bury you in a hurry. In my experience, you can beat probably 30-40% of the teams in Rec just by making them execute a halfcourt offense. If you can limit their easy fastbreak opportunities, they just can't score enough to beat you.

and thanks to guys like you, the game goes in a direction where the sim community doesnt like it to be. the guy gave an excellent example of how to beat a Zone with Basketball tactics (you Know, we are playing a Basketball game here?) and all you want to do is insult him? great....

He replied to my answer to OP by trying to contradict me

The best way to beat the 2-3 in 2k is with guard penetration and/or scoring. Period.

I tried to help y’all and say DONT do that (his whole post) because you end up getting FLOODED and coming on here to whine about it.

And he like “NO, HERES A VIDEO OF JUST THAT”

You beat the zone with penetration.

Not with a pure sharp shooting two pointers all game.

You can argue all you want and keep catching those floods

              OR

              MAYBE

Which explains win percentages I see people blame on playing with randoms

If you score 100% of the time with a "pure sharp shooting two pointers all game", then you will likely win. If your opponent doesn't want to lose, he will do sth against your "pure sharp shooting two pointers all game" and thus rotate over to him. As a result of that you will get more space for the rest of the team and can start your penetrade and pitch. Winning against a zone defense is all about making the defense move and making the defense do mistakes. The easiest way to make the defense do mistakes is by filling spots where it is not clear who has to guard them, like the highpost spot.

Correction, I said you could probably beat 30-40% of the teams in Rec simply by limiting your turnovers and, consequently, the other team's fastbreak opportunities.

Interesting about the 2-3 zone if you have basketball IQ....

If you're a guard...you're mad that big is unable to make reads and passes, and your other guards are not using motion.

If you're a big...you're mad that guards don't know how to make smart passes and jack up shots too fast.

I gues 99% of people you played against don't have a clue of basketball? So how do you expect them to play properly against a zone defense, if they don't know basketball basics?

I don't care about your record. I KNOW that the way with a guy on the highpost WORKS in basketball. I saw it often times myself, either on the opponent or with my own team.

After playing so many more games, I have to be honest. The BEST method to beating the zone is knowing how to freaking pass the ball! Playing as the center, it blows my mind often the backcourt will EASILY get 6+ turnovers PER player. People need to learn how to use icon passing and/or how to be patient against the zone. I can live with someone getting 1-3 turnovers, because sometimes you underestimate the pass, but I still think it's asinine when the entire backcourt gets 3 turnovers each. Some people need Basketball 101 in passing the ball.

As for the bigs...STOP throwing the pass as soon as you get a rebound! You're wasting a possession when you throw a pass and it goes out of bounds. How hard is it to wait 1-2 seconds to see how your teammates are streaking to the other side THEN throw the pass?

If people were just more careful with the ball, that's like 80% of the battle.
