Re: How do you beat zone in Rec in this game?
Use screens.
Utilize the free throw line area for midranges. Soon as i see zone i camp right at the free throw line. Bigs do not want to come out that far. It’s wide open shots if your teammates want to pass that day.
Don’t overpass the ball. A lot of teams over pass on the perimeter against zone and you look up and now the team has 13 turnovers. I get so angry when I’m on a team in Rec and dudes are getting locked up on the perimeter and aren’t even trying to ISO their man. Most teams run zone because they know their perimeter defenders are trash so as soon as you see zone you need to get aggressive with your attempts to get to the rim. Breaking teams’ perimeter wall also opens up holes in the zone because most ppl have ADHD and will come off their man if they feel like a paint shot is coming. So once again I’ll say BE READY TO PASS THE BALL. But try to prioritize passing from the paint and not passing back and forth on the perimeter. Those passes are just too easy to steal.
Run with a post scoring big or identify a teammate with a pretty good post bag and let him use drops steps, hop shots and fades etc. most good teams that run zone will let a post up go one on one. If they start doubling then just pass. If they start doing what i call a fake double where they come close to you but never actually press X then just keep trying to score. Most guys fake double because they just want you to pass. Make him committ to you before passing out of the post. One thing i hate seeing is a 7 foot center getting one on one against a 6’ 9” guard and passing out of a post up just because someone got close to them. BE AGGRESSIVE.
I guess the main thing is against zone you’ve gotta limit your passes to avoid steals. So be aggressive as hell

You can beat the zone with real world bball iq tactics. Don't blame the tactics blame the lack of bball iq in the community. Problem is 90% of the 2K community - including pro am - doesn't have the real chemistry needed for all 5 to move as a cohesive unit. So they set up cones while the PG / C dance for 20 seconds of the shot clock. To beat the zone takes a lot of creativity and great timing, things most teams don't have time for. You may be able to find 1 or 2 players with great chemistry, but I haven't seen many where all 5 have elite level bball iq (not just 2k iq) and great chemistry.
In 200 Rec games i got this maybe TWO times. Where all 5 dudes had a cannon, and were smart on D. I remember getting on the mic and asking someone to switch for me and then saying “ok I’ll take your man next play” and i was so surprised someone had IQ. I didn’t have to tell him i want to switch because i want to guard paint. He saw my build and knew. IMG_0319.jpg
I think in this game we saw zone and i decided to be Uber aggressive in the post and it led to a crap load of assists and maybe even more pass to assists where the guy i passed too ended up Finding a wide open man based off the gravity i created by being Uber aggressive with my back downs.
