Guess the your claim of a lack of common sense is showcased in your observation of peoples complaints. Most guys giving their way to early opinions on the state of next gen defense have nothing to do with the fact that baskets were made. Its whats going on off the ball that led to those baskets being made. The lack of ball rotations, the offball suction screens, the help defender running away from the ball being driven down the paint. Its the stuff that if you see now then you can guarantee it has been unaddressed. But i guess reading comprehension is a step above common sense

They still ARE NOT capturing the atmosphere as great as they think they are...at all. Adding a couple of security guards pre-game doesn’t cut it. Crowd still looks too dark and doesn’t seem to react appropriately. They need the crowd lighting from 2k17 with NBA Live reactions (like booing when the star player of the opposing team gets the ball which was done in NBA Live 15).

I’m hoping there’s more to look forward to down the road. Let’s go PES 2022!!!

Damn, if you haven't watched this in 4K you should.

While I'm not going to break down defensive rotations on video that's obviously one low difficulty (Jrue Holiday greened a 54% contested.step back....its on Rookie on Pro) Derrick Favors running toward his man while Curry is driving is definitely worrying and regardless of difficulty. Us H2H players are all too familiar with that issue.

What I will give props to 2k on is the footplanting and the choppy steps. It really does look great. There's someone who did a side by side of CG & NG and you really can see the difference as Mike said. That and the transisitonal animations...they look so seamless all over the court.

The video in 4k does looks very nice. I wanted two things from Next-Gen 21; better foot planing/movement and crowd atmosphere.

Looks like they delivered on the footplanting but the crowd atmosphere is still lacking.

Defense has been severely lacking for several iterations now. Common sense would tell you that seeing the same problems again would indicate the issues are still there.

Let's judge a whole game based on a user vs. user gameplay meant to showcase offense and complain about defense. Let's also assume they the playing on a challenging difficulty and run with it.

The game looks great but I didn't really see much that knocked me out of my seat. I'm still playing NBA 2K20 (and enjoying it), and I know next-gen 2K21 looks visually better, but there wasn't that punch you're always hoping to feel when you first catch a glimpse of that next-gen debut.

Of course, we all understand it's just a small glimpse and there could be so much more under the hood. But every time a new gen comes around, I wonder about whether it's time for certain details to take that next super leap. The crowd reacting realistically (both on an audio and visual front), players not oddly swaying in unison during a pre-game camera cut, a slightly less unnerving sideline reporter, etc.

So far, it looks like a visually polished 2K, which is cool because 2K is already pretty polished. Just not feeling that, "Wow, welcome to next gen" moment yet.

Love the new camera angle! The first thing I was looking for was to see if I noticed any sliding. Much to my delight I didn't!

The main thing I wanted addressed for Next Gen was foot planting (players sliding into position to receive passes, etc.). Seems like they finally fixed it!

                        Some minor gripes:

The net physics seem better but not as realistic as I was expecting

Players models look better overall but still room for improvement (hopefully we can edit full player body types)

Help defense A.I. could use a little tuning

Other than that I can't wait to get my hands on the game! Nice job 2K

Sure I guess we can pretend like we've never seen these issues before and that they'll be nonexistent in the retail game.

Hey OS Forum, first time posting here, I really like the look of the next-gen graphics, the gameplay seems to flow nicely too, as others have already commented, help defense looks a tad slow on rotations, and I didn't really like Lonzo Ball getting warped into a screen on the Klay Thompson open 3 ball, and also not even fighting through it, basically just skated on the spot, hopefully, this isn't going to be a common occurrence. Also, I've always had a big problem with the reverse layups, they just aren't realistic, how many players up and under, throwing it over their head as BI does, not even using the backboard?!? Surely this could be something that can be mo-capped, right? Otherwise, everything else looks the goods and I can't wait for the release date and get my hands on the new features of NBA 2K21 Next-Gen

I’m impressed with the gameplay. The court looks beautiful and the floor space is accurate compared to the cramped/tight floor spacing of current gen

So no, I disagree with your assessment that people weren't expecting some phenomenal leap in graphics and gameplay. My expectations were tempered a long time ago due to COVID-19 and most developers are working from home now. I work from home myself, so I know FOR FACT that the experience and resources available to you is no where near like it would be in the actual building. If we didn't have a pandemic happening, then yes...I would be expecting more, because they could have 100% dedicated time and effort to the current AND next-gen games.
From before, I don't think having a pre order or not matters, I just think people's expectations were high, as they should be, pandemic or not. I don't remember seeing xbox or ps5 giving us a discount because of the pandemic. When did xbox one / ps4 come out, 2k14? So it's been 7 years and big jumps in technology since then, I think all our expectations were high. Idk what I was expecting exactly, but the gameplay didn't "blow me away" like I was hoping for. To me, none of the hi-tech stuff matters to me though if 2K can't figure out how to tune the game to be more realistic in online modes like Rec / Pro Am. And that's an area no amount of tech can improve if the company itself is on an arcade route like they've been on. Hopefully the features and modes will also help separate current from next gen.
