Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread

All I’m asking for the love of god before NBA 2K24 comes out is an Anthony Edwards face scan or at least an artist rendering that actually looks like him. It’s unbelievable. If I was NBA 2k I would be absolutely embarrassed. And I get it, he may not have made him self available and gotten a scan yet but that’s a sorry *** excuse considering what some of the MODS look like. And yes I’m a twolves fan, but after almost 3 full years in the NBA it’s ridiculous. Sorry for the rant.

There needs to be alot of graphical improvements for '24.

Same here brother. I actually thought 2K23 was a fantastic looking game… until I saw this. Now my visual experience is almost completely ruined. I simply can’t unsee just how horrendous ‘23 looks in comparison. From the lighting, to the body types (more specifically the head to body ratio) , to the skin textures, the jersey physics, even the lack of sleeveless undershirts…My goodness we’re down BAD.

There’s no reason why a game, from 10 years ago, should even be CLOSE to what we have now. It’s infuriating. I’m not here to take crap on the art team. They did an amazing job with the Eras presentation. I think it’s clear, at this point, they are severely handicapped by 2K’s overall commitment to last gen hardware. The current graphical engine was introduced last gen (2k18) and is still in place to support both current and last gen. Unlike from PS3 to PS4, this generation has basically been nothing but a port from last generation. Nothing has truly been overhauled or done from scratch. I’m talking visuals, game modes, and gameplay. It’s all largely still the same. I’m not sure why they decided to take this approach. Maybe for money reasons? All I know is that all this old stuff is really starting to show it’s age.

We ain’t getting a TRUE next gen experience until they finally bury last gen where it belongs.

            Yes, Just my opinion.

We know Kobe looked great in 2K14, There we’re other faces like Ibakas in particular as well. The sweat and jersey physics too.

but that’s why I posted video over particular stills.

Notice that Lakers yellow isn’t anywhere near that vibrant in video as it is in the pic, because of that hazy filter 2K14 used. Some loved that, I didn’t as much.

            Different stokes though.

I respect it. And I agree, colors definitely don’t pop as hard as they do during still images. But I don’t recall the game looking as washed out as the video that you posted

              Here’s a more accurate representation I think

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread

There are some things in NBA 2K Next Gen that are better, like colors and shadows, no doubt.

But my point is precisely about the physics of the jerseys and about the sweat, it's monstrously better in a game released 9 years ago, for an older generation.

2K wanted to work the online mode for ALL OTHER MODES, in the online mode they never focused on the physics of the uniforms. The truth is, NBA 2K has become an ONLINE SALES AND SERVICES game, and that doesn't interest me at all, so for the first time in about 25 years, I'm not playing NBA 2K this year.

There are a lot of good games to occupy my time.

Hopefully one day 2K will have some competition, otherwise I don't see this game doing anything different than what it's been doing for the last few years.

This product definitely doesn't interest me anymore...

My god, Let's ignore how much better the uniforms and sweat effects are...

Look how much better the body models of 2K14 are, player movement looks much more real. On this screen, even 2K14's shadows are extremely superior to 2K23's.

Yeah obviously current 2k has higher fidelity faces, shoes, accessories, and higher quality animations. But after that , I’m not sure where else it holds an advantage aesthetically.

I’d be willing to sacrifice the ‘quality’ in some of those things for better lighting alone. Lighting really does enhance or diminish the overall look of a game. You add good lighting with realistic sweat and gloss effects. Mannnnnn. That’s literally the main reason why 2k14 (visually) has aged so gracefully and is arguably better looking than every 2k after it. They simply nailed it in those very important aspects.

Amen. 100% Agreed. I may not buy 2k again until it’s truly Next Gen. The Kobe comparison vid is just shameful that what’s on the right is the game currently.2k23 visually is NOT next gen. Let’s just be honest. 2k needs to take a page from NBA Live and take a year off and take the time to truly bring about next gen for their NBA series. If NBA live comes back anytime soon, I may consider that over 2k for the first time in 25 years…

Take a year off? idk g, I can understand you personally want the visuals to be better for sure which you def entitled too but idk about that.

I do agree that NBA Live needs to come back for competition.. but thats a whole nother conversation hahah

The crazy thing is that other than some cyber faces/face scans & shoe details, NBA Live never looked better than NBA 2K on last gen.

And people that like to praise & hype up NBA 2K14 graphics, conveniently fail to mention the lack of features & "bare bones"-ness of that game.

I do want them to continue to improve jersey textures, gear textures, arena lighting, skin textures, etc but acting like NBA 2K "isn't next-gen" is laughable.

Barebones because it was the 1st next gen game for this PS4, but I don't see why that matters when we are talking about the graphical part of the game. Gameplay still holds up well.

We shouldn't be talking about NBA Live at all, there's no competition, 2K has been blowing them out of the water since 2K6 and I frequently play older NBA Live titles.

Its a next gen game for sure, but your last sentence agrees with what we've been saying. It's an "ehhhh" version of a next gen game. I don't boot up 2K and get blown away with what I'm seeing. In my opinion the game has looked the same since 2K21.

Competition is healthy for gaming. I actually wish another company would take on the challenge though. Perhaps San Diego studios? EA just doesn’t make good games (imo). They’ve had too many opportunities to prove otherwise.

But yeah, I wouldn’t mind 2k taking a year off to overhaul the game.
