Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
Barebones because it was the 1st next gen game for this PS4, but I don't see why that matters when we are talking about the graphical part of the game. Gameplay still holds up well.
We shouldn't be talking about NBA Live at all, there's no competition, 2K has been blowing them out of the water since 2K6 and I frequently play older NBA Live titles.
Its a next gen game for sure, but your last sentence agrees with what we've been saying. It's an "ehhhh" version of a next gen game. I don't boot up 2K and get blown away with what I'm seeing. In my opinion the game has looked the same since 2K21.
2k14 graphics were able too look that good because it was barebones with modes , that’s why he stated it . No other 2k game really touched that lighting in last Gen after that ; prob the 2nd best looking game on previous Gen might be 16.Comment

Besides, we have super powerful consoles now, asking for noticeable graphical improvements over a 3 year cycle isn't really asking for much.Boston Celtics

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
I don't believe in that theory, its a reason they have different departments. NBA Live 06 was barebones on the 360 but Live 10 wasn't and we know which one looks better. 2K16 wasn't barebones and like you said it rivals '14 for best looking game.
Besides, we have super powerful consoles now, asking for noticeable graphical improvements over a 3 year cycle isn't really asking for much.
Some would argue live 06 is a more realistic looking game in graphics the problem with that game it was extremely poorly animated and bad gameplay . Yea 2k16 prob the 2nd best looking game but it still reminds 2k14 is the far superior looking game outside of facial models . Also the ps4-ps5 was never gonna be a extreme drastic jump like from ps2 to ps3 or to the ps4 . The only way that happens if 2k changes it’s engine entirely to something like unreal engine 5 if you want a drastic jump in how this game looks and that’s gonna take more time than they have with making the current game. I can’t tell the difference from 2k23 from the ps4 version , it’s night and day; but if until like I stated they make a complete overhaul these game will still look mostly the same but different variations. Just the amount of stuff they added to the on court experience to adding staff , crowd animations , tv crew etc is something they couldn’t fit on those disc for past console games and make it run well . And this isn’t me saying I don’t want them to improve the look of the game but it’s gonna take way more time than they’re currently given and an entirely new game engine in general in terms of look .Comment

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
I have stated this numerous times before too but it’s a matter of 2K just not optimizing the game for true next Gen. For those who got the next Gen consoles at launch, because of the huge supply issues with Covid and what not, the game was essentially made so that it would run on current and next Gen systems. Besides a few modes like the myERAs and what not, current/Last Gen and next Gen 2K23 is essentially the same.
What I want if for 2K to ditch the PS4 once and for all and release the game only on the PS5/Xbox Series X. We are three years into the lifecycle of next Gen systems. When are they going to make the games just for the next Gen systems?Comment

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
I would like to say, finally saw a good discussion on this subject here! I've been criticizing the 2K ART TEAM FOR YEARS, this topic just asked for updates that never arrived in the game... now, we finally had an real discussion, about the real issue!
If 2K is smart, she'll read all of that!Comment

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
Last gen 2K has its own development team.
Even if they do a single gen release I wouldn’t expect a huge graphical jump. MOH is correct that it would take a complete engine swap.
There’s a difference between our personal expectations and where the industry is. 2K21 was praised for being one of the few games to take advantage of the consoles power when the new systems released. It not being the jump we expected doesn’t change that.
If I’m a art dev reading this, the idea that 2k23 current and last gen are the same would be a non starter to have any sort of dialogue. I refuse to believe a community that can spot the third stripe missing on the Pistons shorts can objectively look at the two games and believe that, lol
On the other hand, When I see the games ability to pull off clothing that can cycle through texture changes in game, I definitely wonder why we don’t have 2K14 type jersey physics. I don’t know the technical aspects that go into that. but I think that’s a reasonable question to ask.

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
Well this is why I said 2K23 would be the last 2K I personally purchase until they do something radically different with 2K24. I wanted an updated Michael Jordan face and animations and on top of that, as bonuses, got the Jordan Challenges and myERAs this year. I am not playing $70 plus tax again this year for a damn glorified roster update.
And 2K can advertise revolutionary gameplay all they want with 2K24. Revolutionary my ***, these morons and their ridiculous patches and gameplay updates ultimately diminish the gameplay over the course of year till the next years release. I ain’t falling for this crap again. We all know 2K only cares about the modes that make them money.Comment

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
For me, the question is not about the new generation. It seems clear that 2k14's artwork is far superior to 2k23's, and 2K14 was made on Xbox One/Playstation 4.
The question is whats 2k focus? It's pretty clear that realistic uniforms, realistic lighting are not on their top priority like working on MyPlayer/MyTeam and microtransactions and that's why the NBA 2k series died for me...Comment

I find it insane that custom court and uniform design system is exactly the same for years with the same legacy glitches.Comment

But its just my opinion, because of that, NBA 2K didn't interest me more this year. First time in 25 years.Comment

Re: NBA 2K23 Art Feedback Thread
Is there anybody good with uniforms that could create these for the Charlotte Bobcats? These were there primary away uniforms for the 2008-2009 season. I am doing a custom roster for this season and it would be extremely helpful, as I can't find them anywhere in 2k upload.Last edited by tigerswag24; 04-16-2023, 05:30 PM.Comment
