Visual concept fell off with the visuals after 2k14 (Lightning)
Then you got people saying well it's not gonna be much difference on next gen because it's minimal now
But imagine NBA 2k having Horizon Zero Dawn Forbidden West Graphics

Imo I think 2k only updated the gameplay engine and not the graphics engine we didn't get too many similarities on PS4

Are you guys serious? This is impressive? KD looks like Kendrick Perkins Lmao. Did they bulk him up? Dude is built like a rail in real life. Bron and the test have the same face scan.

The lightning is CLEARLY filtered and we know the in game pics are the same as 2K23 based on the other pics.

I mean I like 2K23 graphics just fine so it’s not like they’re “crappy” but it’s so clear this year they didn’t improve graphics one bit so they’re relying on these shady filtered stills to give the illusion of improvement.

It always surprises me how much better mods look given the tech and budget 2k have compared to an average joe using whatever they use to create their mods.

I use a lot of his mods. Night and day compared to 2k. It's a crying shame 2k keeps doing this to us.

With the budget they have and the money they generate it shouldn't be impossible. Unfortunately, it goes untouched likely cause it isn't a "money making" issue.

Also, how do they WNBA player model compare to their real-world counterparts?

Problem is the body types are already in the game.. we literally just need the ability to cycle through them in the create/edit menu… it makes no sense [emoji23]

Would like to see Joker's body. From his shoulders and upper arms it looks like he still has the lean, athletic body type.

I subscribe to his Patreon & use them too, and I agree. Someone posted his side-by-sides on Reddit and I remember one user retorting with something like “Yeah they look a ton better when super zoomed in like that, but what’s important is what you actually see in games, not just zooming in artificially to admire some 3d model.” But the reality is that every bit of this detail comes through in-game via camera cuts, most noticeably at the free throw line and in instant replays / after-basket cuts. These faces actually look better in motion than in these stills. And even if you play zoomed-out enough that faces don’t matter much during live play, the body models do.

I’ve said before that when I switched to PC, it was more for easier roster editing than for mods, but once your game has almost exclusively high-quality player models like this, jumping into a default game is like jumping into a bizarro NBA freak show. Like, that’s how it feels within the actual 48-minute game, not just on the Edit Player screen. The best way I can explain the feeling would be like if you took the default 2K roster and imported appearance DNA for each player to be a CAP of that player rather than their official model. So, you load into Lakers vs. Warriors and it’s Create-A-Player LeBron passing to Create-A-Player AD, or Create-A-Player Steph at the free throw line. Maybe the game is still fun, but like, ewww… right?

Going from default to CAP would be like how it feels going from high-quality modded versions to default—in game, out of game, wherever.

PS: Where custom models of this quality really shine is for retro players, given how much worse their default models usually are even from default present-day players.

See Elton Brand (below) for instance. I’m sorry but I just feel more immersed seeing the guy on the right doing his free throw routine as opposed to the mutant on the left.

This side by side comparison really does display the difference in lighting (and sharpness - if not photoshopped)

The irony too is… wait, what’s that new technology in 2K24 that can capture motion data from footage rather than requiring players to come in and motion-capture the old-fashioned way? ProPLAY?

Well guess what modders do, because Giannis sure as heck didn’t sit for a face scan in this dude’s apartment. I don’t wanna hear “Oh, Anthony Edwards won’t sit for a face scan”… just call the modders’ process ProSCAN and stick it in the next Courtside Report, 2K. Unlike modders who have to scour the web for high-quality images, 2K even has them at their fingertips from the NBA directly if they want them. They could probably have a Dropbox of 4K-quality media day closeups from the NBA tomorrow if they wanted.

I think 2k is reliant on their face scan technology because of the facial expressions they are able to deliver.

the 2k artists have issues with the players like LEbron, Embid, Durant. The cheeks are bloated and they have an angry type of snarl. they arent quite right when compared to Curry, Jocic, victor Wemby, and Devin Booker.
                          They almost got Yannis right.

This is the exact problem. Some of the faces are too compact and have this puffiness that makes them look off. They don’t sculpt the 3D facial structure enough.

I think it's just the older scans showing their age in comparison to the newer face scans. The WWE games have a similar issue when you compare an older face scan to a newer one.
