To be fair, if you’re right (which I think you are), the overthinking is at least in part due to the way 2K has chosen to present it, i.e., as a gameplay feature, which is reinforced by the name, ProPLAY. If they’d named it ActionScan (to a draw a parallel to their face scan technology) and presented it alongside art updates, as opposed to clumped together with a bunch of legit gameplay updates, people would understand better. It’d just be less sexy that way.

This isn't 1:1 and if the 2k24 clip was legit transitions between several moves, this gives you an idea of how much this can change things.

Reminds me of NBA 2K7 when sig jumpers were revealed. 24 is a good indicator of how far we’ve come. Lol man at the time, 2K7 was so life like and revolutionary. Brings back so many memories.

At the time I was in a proper financial struggle, but 2K7 made me finance an Xbox just so I could have the game because of the signature jump shots.

Signature animations are everything to me as a 2K fan. Beyond excited about ProPLAY!

Not just basketball video games, sports games in general. Signature animations became the standard after 2k7.

From those clips 2k24 looks so smooth and fluid. In 2k23 you can see the start and end of each move/animation, it's robotic, whereas they blend seamlessly in 2k24. These are short clips and sequences so we can't assume alloves and combos will blend this well but looking good so far.

I was a junior in high school at the time and I remember saving money all summer to get an Xbox 360, with 2k7 being a driving factor. I don't even know if I knew anything about 2k7 at the time, I just knew there was no way I'd be able to play 2k7 on my PS2 knowing there was a much better version available on "next-gen." The 2k7 demo alone is one of my most memorable gaming experiences.

If you didn't grow up around that time I don't think you'd understand how big of a jump that game was. The graphical difference was massive. Going from standard definition to HD was huge, but even if you didn't have an HDTV it was still a night and day difference. The signature styles were kind of mind blowing. At the time, it was still pretty cool seeing how accurate they could get cyberfaces. Now we were getting signature shots and dribbling, and not just things like crossovers but smaller details like Steve Nash licking his fingers while bringing the ball up court.

Sorry for the short rant but 2k7 is one of those games I can reminisce about for days. I wonder if I can still download that demo on 360.

These two videos had me staring at my PS2 copy of 2K7 in disgust lol. Momentous always did a good job of playing to a star's likeness and showing signature animations.. Good times.

I almost threw up when I saw the date on these videos was 16 years ago.

Those videos were the reason I got myself a 360 back then. Still one of my favorite games of all time. Was such a blast to play.

Been playing video games since 1983, and the stuff we see today were things you only dreamt about or imagined could take place one day. To see how far things have come from way back then...that's why I get excited. If you didn't grow up playing video game basketball where the actual basketball was square shaped...it's easy to take these advancements for granted lol!! It's crazy seeing cats brush this stuff off like it's nothing. But, I'm an old head tho so...

I didn't have the money to upgrade to a 360 at the time (classic broke college student) so I had to settle for the PS2 2K7 initially. Believe it or not, the PS2 version actually had a handful of signature jumpshot animations itself (I think I remember Peja and Vince being two).

Glorious days abounded when I finally found myself a deal on the 360 in conjunction with Christmas.

Yooo, I just watched these vids last night because I was thinking, "I wonder whatever happened to those Momentous trailers we'd get to hype you before release."

I feel like part of the reason people don't have the same hype like they used to is there's no Momentous trailer with the new animations being showed off over dope music.

I can remember each one but 2k11, 2k12, 2k13, 2k14 OMG (the GOAT), 2k15, 2k16, 2k19 are seared into my brain.
