Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
For sure. I was really saying that they probably went back and added more signature moves to other classic players like lets say Scottie Pippen on something and then like Robert Horry after a big three.
We see players like Jordan, Rodman and Magic have a lot of signature movements but im sure the team captured some more with how successful Eras has been in the community.
Guess we will find out this week, excited!!
Plus, it'd be easy for me to see a situation where ProPlay gets the bulk of the focus and additional historic signatures just don't make the list of motion capture to-dos.
Of course, I'm always welcomed to be surprised.Comment

I think of it like the new passing options in Madden. There's classic passing, full control, or an option that is somewhere in between. People can play the way they want to play. 2k should have done the same.
I do wonder if it's something they would consider bringing back in the future. I can't help but think that it was, at the very least, an interesting idea that could have used a little more time in the oven.Comment

Czar,
Can you speak on how the on ball defense has been changed for user and CPU for 24? The trailer of the 1 on 1 interaction of KD and Steph shows different physics based movement to stay with the ball handler that I don't think we have ever seen before.
Things I noticed in the short time:
*Defender had to open hips to change direction instead of sliding or morphing.
*Are there new control physics /momentum we must obey to change direction as a defender this year that applies for user and CPU based strictly on new ProPlay animations?
* To me it looks like ProPlay has also been applied to decide which animations are actually possible when playing on ball defense for user and CPU. That is my guess not sure there but it sure did look that way. If that is true not sure why that isn't talked about enough.Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
Is that not the way it works in real life though? Coaches have to function within the general basketball climate and according to their players’ basketball upbringings / skillsets. If you dropped 2018 D’Antoni into the mid-90s Pistons they would not be shooting 40 3PA in a game no matter how much coach yells at them. Or am I misunderstanding what you’re after?
Would the Pistons start shooting 40 3pa a game? No, but nor will they continue shooting 15 a game. Yes coaches operate in the general basketball climate (gameplay sliders), but they impact that climate in real life more than they do in the game.
See this: https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2022/10...nal-revolution
Currently with 2k's limited coach settings/philosophies we don't get to see this sort of buck the trend going rogue type of coaching.
Many gamers (not me) like running hypothetical scenarios like transporting teams across eras to see what would happen, and currently teams play according to the universal gameplay sliders moreso than individual coach sliders.
You even see this within eras. Good luck having the 7 Seconds Suns putting up their historically accurate sim stats while other teams of the same era put up their historically accurate stats. To get the Suns to put up accurate stats you have to inflate the rest of the league.
Further there is no way to represent the organic switch in game. Generally speaking for good sim stats in the deadball era most people run with a lower gamespeed than what they would use in today's NBA. The way in game to make the transition to today's more open style of play is via gameplay sliders that affect everybody. So there's no transition, its just a switch for the entire league that gets turned on.
And just generally there is not as much variance team to team in terms of tempo. Thats not quite a big a deal for today's NBA, but its more significant for the Kobe era or potential LeBron era.
Consider:
2023 most 3pta: GSW at 43
2023 fewest 3pta: Bulls at 28
Difference: 1.5
2009 most 3pta: Magic at 27.3
2009 fewest 3pta: Memphis at 12.4
Difference: 2.25
In 2009 the Magic more than doubled the amount of 3 point shots that Memphis took. We don't see that kind of range in 2k during the Kobe era because current coach settings are geared towards today's NBA
Expansion of coach philosophy sliders to allow for greater variation among teams and more realistic sim stats, which in turn lead to a greater myEra experience.Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
Now that Mike Wang has stated that the game has been completely reimagined in ALL aspects to make it more accessible and fluid for beginners, I'll reiterate my question.
Does anyone have additional information about this specific passage from the latest courtside update:
"Lots of new controller settings this year. Separate toggles for Shots, layups, free throws, as well as control type (Pro Stick, Button)"
Because it's quite evident that we have new controller commands, and it's definitely not a minor novelty if it's not mentioned in this post...
Personally, I've been waiting for a very long time for an update to the gamepad controls. There are too many commands that do the same thing (especially for shooting), and at times, it's the opposite – there's a lack of commands to vary passes or control defense. Getting rid of the redundancy between Pro Stick and shooting button would be a good start, for instance, reserving the shooting button exclusively for jump shots.Comment

Someone give me the coles notes version please……
- shot stick is more relevant or less relevant now ?
- shot timing is less relevant ?
- don’t need to green anymore for a make ?
- layups are now harder ?Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
I do hope that's the case with AI Teammates in MyCareer. But in the past, I always played as a off ball hustle guy and always ran with plays or using the play art. The problem wasn't that I wasn't passing or running plays, it's that AI teammates don't play up to their talents. Heck, when i get the ability to edit playbook, I go through and changes plays and priorities in order to get the best plays that suit my teammates.
I just want AI teammates to perform the same as CPU AI on the opposing team.Comment

Thanks Da_Czar for coming in here and giving up all of this great insight and information.
Does anyone else find themselves reading Da_Czar's posts more than once so they can make sure they soak up all the detail and information?Comment

I find it difficult to get Shaq to dunk period.. I don't know if it's issues with his sig or something coded weird to his player model for whatever reason, but you can max his standing dunk rating and tendency and rarely will he actually do it. Movement dunks are fine, so no issue when he's a dribble away, and when the game defaults to one of those post dunk on the defender animations he will do those as well.. But his dunk package just seems broken. Like open under the rim and just don't dunk broken.
Like you mentioned, certain Shaq dunks and every version of the 'Under Basket Rim Pull' dunks would never happen. Made dunking pretty bland when doing CPU - CPU matchups.
Has anyone asked Mike Wang on Twitter/X about it and if it's been fixed for 2K24?

Yeah, certain dunk packages were glitched in 2K23 - 'New Gen' in particular, not sure about last gen - and just wouldn't trigger at all.
Like you mentioned, certain Shaq dunks and every version of the 'Under Basket Rim Hang' dunks would never happen. Made dunking pretty bland when doing CPU - CPU matchups.

Plus, 'Rim Hang' dunks being glitched means you never see them at all.
Really takes away from the authenticity of many modern big men's finishing/dunking styles.

Has Czar or anyone else posted any updates to fast breaks? The past few 2K games it has always been difficult to pull off fast breaks do to the CPU super speed catch up logic or the offensive player hesitates/hitches in motion before taking off on a fast break.Comment

Yep. As a dunking aficionado, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to handle playing a 2000s Era where guys like Kenyon Martin aren't out there trying to rip the rim off the backboard. Just wouldn't feel right.Comment
