I won't lie, I wish we could just utilize the shot itself without having to do the dribble moves that lead to it. LeBron sometimes hits that stepback from a complete standstill, sometimes after a hesi, sometimes after a crossover.

Seeing the dribble moves that lead up to the shot is a dead giveaway that the shot is coming, and that type of predictability can hinder gameplay.

Check out Kevin Cruz’s other videos- looks like you can chain it out of virtually everything…

I think I can see why 2K isn't doing the most work on the AI's help defense. None of these dudes who are putting out videos seem to care about it

Wonder if passing feels as snappy as it looks on some of these videos

Unfortunately it seems like that's the community 2K cares about, which is why dribbling and shot mechanics always get the most attention when it comes to gameplay. That's what the streamers care about most. Another part of it is that the modes that audience plays most are human vs human, so why improve things like AI when a large, vocal portion of the fanbase doesnt care about those things.

I've only watched a little bit of gameplay so far. Movement/animations and lighting stand out as improvements, but otherwise (unsurprisingly) it's still 2k for better or worse. That means things like fast breaks and offensive/defensive AI have received little to no improvement (at a glance at least).

I'm a little mixed from what I've seen so far. Liking the improvements, just a little worried about how good the game will be once that honeymoon phase wears off.

                I'm still confused.

According to Kevin Cruz, Go-To Shots include the dribble sequence attached to them, but here:

We see Curry transition from the between-the-legs cross into the stepback, so I thought that was his Go-To Shot sequence. Then he cancels the shot into more dribbling, then goes to the right-to-left crossover into the stepback.

So which is his Go-To Shot?******** src="moz-extension://cea915c9-7fb4-4c5f-aeeb-ba7e127a8370/js/app.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

This. It can be depressing reading the comments on most 2K YT videos. The term “sim head” is used as a pejorative lol

Because they’ve turned Sim into a dirty word (Even though 2K is a basketball simulation and always has been) We know who’s responsible for that so I’m not gonna get into that

On another note, I’m loving all the humbles that’s going in the rim. Lots of new animations for that.

Does every player have a go to move or is it reserved for certain players? Curious how this would work for role players, post-up bigs, and legends. This could be a really cool feature if they build on it.

There were actually a few sim heads invited to the event, but I don’t even think I would have spent my limited time with the game in that scenario doing a bunch of defensive stress tests, lol

Czar usually does a stream highlighting the changes he made to AI on his channel though. Usually answers a few questions too.

At least the Bucks’ court looks MUCH better. That’s nice to see. Not quite as amazing as the older 2Ks, but more true-to-life (older 2Ks tended to over do the court reflections because it looked cooler).

Player lighting is definitely improved (massively) as well. In gameplay they just look more real than years past, and then the close ups during cutscenes give a much more cinematic look as well.

The one negative that jumps out at me is that some of the dribble launches seem too floatey/sped up. Just not quite natural. I think either a tweak to the acceleration slider or a minor patch could fix this though, make those launches just a little more grounded and realistic.

Yea, holy ****. After watching that, all those people who parroted the old “2K call it a brand new dribble engine every year lol” are definitely gonna have to eat their words. That **** is RIDICULOUS.

So you can utilize the canned size up dribble sequence into the go to shot as one animation and one input (just hold up on the RS), BUT you can break out of that animation at literally any point to do some free styling, explode to the basket, launch into a step back in the opposite direction of the go to shot animation, or whatever else you wanna do?

2K really found a way to feed the sim heads with this new dribble feature, while also giving the online crowd (and especially content creators) near infinite possibilities to find the most broken **** imaginable lol. Credit where credit is due.

Please tell me we have at least passable help defense [emoji120] this could easily be the best 2K ever made, gameplay-wise. I’m just picturing a scenario where you use the new dribble system to cook a defender and attack the rim, only for the AI to have realistic help defense close down the paint, you dish it out to the open shooter but the AI is smart enough to recognize this and send a rotation over and force a second pass, with yet another rotation coming over to cover that second pass and put you in a “shoot contested three, drive opposite the defender’s momentum, or reset possession” situation.

If the above is present in 2K25, it’s all over. 10/10.
