Re: NBA 2K17 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set
In my threads, the official and definitive settings will ONLY and ALWAYS be in the first post. If I suggest any different settings in the thread, and they're not in the first post, that means that I'm not sold on their effectiveness and am simply thinking out loud/looking for feedback.Comment

I've tested your cursors for three quarters with the changes you've posted on the previous page. I could not make a photo but I enjoyed it and with the changes to shooting Foul Frequency 80/68 the free throws are the same (at least in these three quarters I did)

Re: NBA 2K17 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set
Jump Shot Defense Strength (Gather) affects how closely off-ball defenders stick to players on the perimeter, how quickly they close-out on a perimeter player after they receive a pass, how much attention they give the screening player on a pick-n-roll/fade, and how big a defender's "area of effect" is on nearby jumpshots (the higher the Gather slider, the fewer jumpshots will go in regardless of how contested they are).
Jump Shot Defense Strength (Release) controls how aggressive, quick, and effective nearby defenders are at contesting a jumpshot at the point of release. The higher this slider, the better defenders are at timing their shot contests AND the more effective these shot contests are at lowering FG%.
The bad news here is that these sliders control TOO MUCH. You need to set (Gather) to a relatively high value in order to get realistic, "sticky" perimeter defense. However, doing so has a ridiculously strong negative effect on shooting percentage which limits offensive variety and creativity (and makes the CPU choose to only take wide open shots).
I have (Gather) at 40 because it allows a certain amount of creativity and variety on offense (where shots in traffic aren't a guaranteed miss) and it makes the CPU harder to predict. However, having it set at 40 is too low for the perimeter defenders to stick to their assignments and instead they sag off/come over to help too often. Setting Gather to something like 70 would solve this issue, but I would have to compensate for that change by increasing Mid-Range and 3PT tendencies and shot success sliders, but then every wide open shot is a guaranteed make even with below average shooters.
This is my main issue with the next update and why it has been delayed. Finding a happy medium here is difficult to say the least.
EDIT: Just found a nice workaround actually. Increasing Jump Shot Defense Strength (Release) makes nearby defenders close out on the shooter pretty well! Not quite the FULL solution to the problem as the defender is usually still a little too far away to make a large impact on shot success, but it's better than nothing!
Now I just have to find the best balance here and we're golden!Last edited by EccentricMeat; 07-21-2017, 04:06 AM.Comment

Yea I see it with my Sg and pg mainly, they sit in the key and let opponents pop open 3s off of offball screens.

I'm going to increase close outs by 1 until I find something suitable

Re: NBA 2K17 "The Eccentric Edition" - Realistic Slider Set
Is there a slider that causes players that's wide open to do a step back LOL. I'm seeing that too much. Kawhi was wide open, did a step back and went out of bounds [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
