    Buddy's Thoughts

    NBA 2K7: A Sim Ballers Dream, A Cheeser's Nightmare.

Graphics - About the same as they were last year. Nothing all that great but they work.

Gameplay - My biggest gripe about last years game is that it was too damn easy for people to just run in the paint in dunk. Boy has that been eliminated! Now that you have to work to get your dunks they're a hell of a lot more rewarding. I think a lot of people who are used to that run and gun bull**** will be very dissapointed if they pick up the game without trying the demo first. I personally couldn't be happier with this change. The pace of the game is very realistic and the spacing of the players is totally on point. I played NBA/College 2k6 a ton last year and I had isomotion down to a science. It looks like I'm gonna have to relearn it because it seems a touch different this time around. I'm very impressed by the gameplay.

presentation - more of the same, but the crowd seems a hell of a lot more into it than i've remembered in the past.

Overall this is a very solid game. I look forward to picking it up on its release date.

Any other changes to the post game -- for better or for worse? Any post moves you really like that either didn't work well or didn't exist last year? How do fade-aways feel this year -- and how well do they work?

Impressions about everything and anything new to do with the post game would be greatly appreciated
      Wasup OBM?

You'll be happy to hear that you can back guys down from much further out, and because their are more bad entry pass animations, it's harder to get the ball down deep without properly setting it up. If your feeding the post on the fly, the poster is more likely to have to give up position to get the ball...but they let you gather and back down from wherever you get it. Shaq is just an animal down there, and I was never stopped from moving guys when I posted him. On the other hand, i had a really hard time backing anyone down with Dirk. I know he's more of a perimiter guy, but last year he banged alot more. I couldn't budge Haslem most of the time, but I did catch Walker one time and backed him down with no problems.

Other than that, the post game features most of the same hooks and scoops. one thing I didn't like though, is the new standard turnaround jumper. It looks kinda cheesy, and since it seems to be the default, you see it alot. The turnaround like they had in 2K2 would have been so much better. On the other hand, medium sized guys like Walker have a whole new slew of quick post moves, and quick dropsteps (finally). Basically, playing with your back to the basket has a whole new feel depending on who you use. I have a feeling you'll be spanking dudes in the post with Billups. The bigs also have new idle animations for posting and when facing that look freaking great. The ambient motion in this game is unreal, on and off the court.

Another change to the post is the addition of the lob pass as a factor which changes the complexion of how you defend the pivot. This is big.

Youre in for a treat my man...

am i doing something wrong here? just wondering.
my pass selection is so iffy. if im in the post, i sometimes want to pass to another teammate whos really close. ill go into a bounce pass and its automatic TO. small stuff like that..

im sure id adjust over time.. that and the fastbreak passing game are areas i really need to work on. the CPU seems to run stuff flawlessly at times, so im guessing its just me

-Guards now have separate post moves so now guys like Chauncey, GP, and Kidd who can post up aren't stuck with big-man moves. I was killing Terry with GP in the high post.

-Two major (for me) things I wanted to see borrowed from Live were a reverse spin off the "protect the ball" triple threat stance, and manual "hands up" animations on defense. Thanks VC. Both work great. The reverse spin is just lovely if you call for a screen to that backside, and the defensive stance moves work like a dream...even better than Live's nice system. And some folks said we didn't need any defensive stances....

-Hop step is mapped back to the Y. Great decision there, the stepbacks and spin moves are much easier than tapping the LT. I hated when I got the post up instead of the hop step last year.

-Lob passes matter. Fronting the post is no longer so effective, but to balance that, the help rotates to cover really quickly. If you plan ahead, you can really work the defense for wide open J's which all look so damn good, it's like a reward at the end of a good play. I like how the lob passes are tricky though...I saw alot of tips and overthrows.

-I see they've added isomotion moves to the drive moves. I had Wade on a breakaway, with only Howard to beat. I thought I had enough space to get the layup off but when I hit the shot stick, he did the spin move, then tried to layup. The animations make you go around players instead of through them.

          - I thought the speed was a bit too fast, even the ref handing the ball off seemed in high speed...but maybe thats just for the demo. Or maybe the difficulty level.

-Baseball outlets don't work as well...thank God for that. I was so sick of rebounders turning into Joe Montana and hitting guys 50 ft away in perfect stride.

-Way more quick moves around the basket. J Willy did a overhead jump pass with some sizzle on it, and Haslem caught it in stride and got it up (off the glass) on the other side of the rim. It was so seemless...

Overall, I'm really loving it. The idle animations are just sick, and do just as much as sig J's to make this game feel real. Unbelievable job by VC.

Wow. Now this is the type of things I want to read about. Especially about the stuff on auto-defensive stance along with quick rotating help defense in the post, inaccurate lob passes and baseball outlet passes.

          Thanks for the impressions, HMcCoy.

I can't stop playing this demo fellas!

I really dig the layup/dunk improvements, and after about 30 games I'm still seeing new animations, very nice touch

Post game is improved, Shaq is killer down there

I like the deflections and loose balls, makes for more strategy when passing down in the post

I feel like I have to take an isomotion tutorial again, so many new moves off the dribble. It will be a real treat once I know how to string these new dribbling anims together

The graphics are cool IMO, no complaints really

                Floor spacing is awesome

I can't say enough about the sig shots....here's to witnessing every game in its unique glory

Free throws are more of a challenge, which I like (I bet Shaq doesn't have a 'perfect release' point lol)

Overall I'm really excited for the retail version, and I'll be playing this demo everyday intensively for the next 12 days

                Thank you VC

When the CPU has the ball, do posting type guards (aka, guards that like to back down, kobe, kidd, billups) actually clear out or get into the post for fadeaways and whatnot?

Not sure if this can be seen with mavs and heat....maybe wade or stack?

I've seen Wade post up a few times, he's put up some shots off the glass, or turned and did a floater.

Its tough to get a good read on the CPU's offensive AI, because it punishes you so quickly for being out of position. If you back off a shooter, he will drill it on you. Because I'm getting a feel for the game, I find myself outta' position sometimes, and the CPU almost always makes me pay. I have seen Wade post up, pretty frequently actually...but I haven't seen the CPU go to him.

Another thing thats been mentioned a few times...deflections are pretty rampant. What worries me is that the CPU tried bad passes way too often for my tatses. They turned the ball over at least 5 times on almost every game I played just on glitch passes alone(ie...passes into a players back), and I'm not a "swiper". We will have to be very careful with the ball rotation this year.

coming off a steal, i had d. wade by himself for a fastbreak and pulled off a 360-two-handed-windmill!! I actually jumped out my seat when i saw this animation. They also had it on the Fastbreak Replay and it looked beautiful in slo-motion.

Couple things I just realized. First when you pump fake and got your defender to jump up, you can do the kobe type of mid-air collison jumpshot to get a foul. 2nd, in loose ball situation, if u jump on the ground and grab the ball, the passing when you are sitting on the ground seems like a manual pass (which you just control the direction of where to throw the ball to), which increases the chances of turnover. There's one time when the opponent got the ball on the ground and I double teamed him, he actually called a timeout.
