LOL. Dunk at will... SMH. Lebron avg. 1.43 dunks/game last year. Dwight avg. 2.4. I can easily get at least 10/gm w/ each w/ 5 min quarters. Baseline hopsteps and the quick hesitation are simply too effective in 2k10.

        Re: NBA 2K9 > NBA 2K10

Die Hard 2k Fan here. I buy it/play the s*** out of it every year.

I'll agree that 2k10 has a lot of improvements over 2k9, especially with all of the new animations. The game looks fantastic. However, I think I'm going to have to agree with the supporters of 2k9. IMO, if you're only looking at GAMEPLAY, which is most important when you play a sim basketball game, then I'd have to throw in my vote for 2k9. I can't for the life of me understand how people can say the defense in 2k10 is better than 2k9. 2k10 has A LOT of flaws on the defensive end. Scoring in the paint is WAY too easy. There's no need to take a jump shot, all you need to do is dump the ball inside and you're pretty much guaranteed 2 points. In 2k9 I would regularly hold teams to under 50% shooting, with 2k10, holding someone under 50% shooting would be like finding a unicorn. IMO, the lockdown D in 2k10 is not nearly as effective as it is in 2k9. It's damn near IMPOSSIBLE to stay in front of somebody and if you play someone that knows how to cheese around the baseline, you're finished. Offensively, I'll give the edge to 2k10 but to me, it's clearly obvious that defense took a back seat in that game.

EDIT: This is for online play only. I don't ever play against the CPU

          Defense was better in 2K9?!

The same game where Yao Ming could beat anyone off the dribble with the Hesitation move where he'd move 10ft in one step?

The same game where the spin put you directly under the basket every time and you couldn't strip the ball?

The same game where doing the sizeup animation sucked all defenders into a defensive stance vortex?

The same game that didn't have fatigue meters which allowed a guy like Lebron to run around in a circle for 21 seconds until he eventually got to take off from the FT line for a dunk?

Defense was non existent in 2K9.

I would rather have somebody legitimately beat me than be sucked into animations. Don't even begin to say 2k9 had more canned on-ball defensive animations than 2k10. How many times did you see this in 2k9?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IttAn1Y6xq4

It did have less two player animations...it was part of the problem in 2K9. You shouldn't be able to do anything you want when defenders are in your face. While 2K10 has some defensive holes (like the baseline), the amount of holes in 2K9 are staggering. Anyone saying that defense was not improved at all over 2K9, and that 2K9 had better defense..deserves this: Because you guys are crazy. What was fixed over 2K9?

                Full court passing
Dunk windows being smaller (no longer can initiate near 3 point line)
ball handlers now lose ball from too much iso dribbles
                many more collision animations
you can play defense on post moves
                contesting shots actually matter
no more pass ball out of shots the entire game
some lead passes inside will not be caught
you can prevent ally oops by standing in position
No more auto shot that always goes in while in double team

Fact is, while I get a lot of cheese individuals in 2K10, I get a lot of poor cheese individuals that suck at cheating. In 2K9, everyone played the same because it was far beyond easy to cheat in that game. Alternate A, elite dunker, spin in circles, flick stick for easy dunk. Do this for the entire game. Yeah, great defense in 2K9. 2K9 was worthless IMO.

I didn't play 2k9 but I played a ton of 2k8 and I've played 2k10 online. 2K10 defensive is just horrible online. Jumpshots? Who needs em. Everybody just scores in the paint and it just looks and feels ridiculously cheesy. Ive played alot of sports games online in general and there all pretty cheesy if your playing random matches, but this game is just a step above the others...barely even resembles basketball.....

vs you maybe...But even in ranked games. The most someon has scored in the paint was 50. And they losted by the same amount. Trying to drive Kevin Durant over and over.

Its obvious anyone who is saying 2k9 had better defense....doesn't know what basketball is. And just wants to cheese the paint over and over.

That animation you just showed. Is result of the user pressing the wrong direction and speed and the sametime. Thats what you get when you gamble.

Great example....Look at my sig....Kobe crossing the hell out of delonte west. Not only does Delonte West recover. But he pretty damn close to contesting the shot. Which should never happen when some gets crossed like that. In 2k10 that animation that you just showed would give the offensive player his open chance or shot.

Wait what? Why quote someone if you're going to ignore everything they just said. The video you should was weak. Why? Well first of all I've never actually seen that animation when controlling the defender. Even if it does occur it can't be 100% effective whereas I gave you three examples of 100% effective moves that work 100% of the time.. The hesitation dribble (which was usable by everyone regardless of ballhandling ability) worked every time and always got you by a defender. The stutter step did the same thing and made you always have to bring a second defender no matter what. Stutter step -> Hesitation -> spin will get you into the paint 100% of the from 25 feet away. Put in variations on that including a stepback 3 from time to time and players were unstoppable.

How is that beating someone "legitimately" beating you vs an animation that doesn't trigger every time especially when you're playing your own defense?

^^ lol. It's not that serious. I have my opinions. You have yours. I found it easier to play defense in 2k9 than in 2k10. Those moves are not 100% effective. Ever been counteracted while trying to blow by defenders w/ a quick hesitation in 2k10?

I'm done arguing about such a trivial topic.

The hesitation(LT) was almost unstoppable in 2k9. So much so that certain online players would do it all the way up court..LOL

The truth is not much has changed in 2k10. The hesitation(RT + tapping LT) in 2k10 is still to effective with players like Wade and Rose.

I liked checking my signature highlights after an online game in 2k9.(Cant do it in 2k10 ranked games)

I found shooting off of a pick and setting up plays much more enjoyable in 2k9.

I find 2k10 a more balanced game because of the changes made from 2k9 to 2k10. The last patch added some very needed contact animations.
