Re: You Know What Grinds My Gears: Excessive Baby Hooks
I was hoping, and still am, that 2k11 will stop having players put up hook shots in excess of 7 or 8 feet from the basket. But the most recent leaked video from gamecon is a little disappointing in that respect.
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hsqvt22YxjA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hsqvt22YxjA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
(40 second mark)
Its unrealistic, an eyesore to look at, out of place and gives the illusion that scoring in the paint is simple. In all actuality that shot in particular from that distance, in traffic is rather tricky and in the 2k realm its considered a "bunny".
Give me some baby jumpers and some fade-aways. I know the game is on causal + pro, but im not sure gamestyles go as far as to change shooting animations. 2k animates far too beautifully to have such a minor thing disturb the perception.Comment

Re: You Know What Grinds My Gears: Excessive Baby Hooks
You're going to complain about the USER triggering a shot that millions of people want to have in the game? Sure, complain about the success or if the AI triggers it (which I rarely see in 2k10). But the shot taken in the video was triggered by the user (intentionally or not) and I'm pretty sure that will stay in the game.
Really? . . . Really?. . .Millions?
So by that logic if a user triggered a dunk from a standstill from that spot it should be cool too?
Hmm well show me these millions and you and I can hold a conversation. Until then, i'll take your millions as "you".
In the mean time I'll listen to Mike who said that the excessive baby hooks bothered him aswell in earlier versions.Comment

NBA 2K10 sold around 3 million. And I'm sure a good chuck of market wants to be able to shoot that shot in some situation.
And if you REALLY paid attention to my post, you would see that NOTHING I've said contradicts anything Wang has said. So making this my word against his word is pointless. I didn't say anything about the frequency of the shot. And I even agreed about the success. I just said, the video showed a *user* triggering the shot. That's it. And if the user decides he wants EVERY shot he takes to be that shot, to a certain extent, who can argue with that?Comment

Re: You Know What Grinds My Gears: Excessive Baby Hooks
Default: Kind of a hyper-realism. Shooting %’s will be slightly higher than real life, there will be fewer fouls, slightly more dunks, more and 1’s, etc. “Let ‘em play hoops” so to speak.
Casual: This is the setting you want if you like up and down play with lots of dunks and highlight moments. There won’t be a whole lot of stoppages and you’ll see higher scoring across the board. Arcade-style play is probably the best way to describe it.
Simulation: Real life stats. This is my game style of choice. With 12-min. quarters, you will easily see NBA averages across your stat lines. Don’t expect anything easy in the paint, you’ll have to work a lot harder and execute good basketball strategy to be successful in Sim.
