A TOUGH ROAD TO BACK-To-BACK TITLES
2011-12 Orlando Magic Season Recap
I was struggling along at 26-21 when I decided to make a change to shake my team up. I traded Jameer Nelson, Carlos Delfino and Tristan Thompson to the Phoenix Suns for Steve Nash & 2nd Round Pick. Phoenix was near the basement in the West so they got a younger PG in Nelson, a prospect in Thompson and an expiring contract in Delfino while I got Nash to make a run at another championship. I also signed Matt Barnes as a free agent to help out at the 3.
I didn't take off right away with Nash and I had to really change the way I was running my offense. I slowed things down, ran a lot more plays and really started to take off. It was a dog fight until the end with the Heat but I surpassed them to get the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Dwight Howard got the MVP as well as Defensive Player of the Year.
The playoffs began with a sweep of the Knicks and a sweep of the Celtics, who were without Garnett. After that was a matchup with my nemesis, the Miami Heat. This one was another war like last season and went 7 games but I prevailed to face the young, upstart Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. Nash had a real tough time guarding Westbrook and Turkoglu had a rough time with Durant. This was probably the most high scoring series I've played in 2k with both teams probably averaging 110+ per game. In the end, I won it on home court to give Steve Nash his NBA championship and win back-to-back with Orlando.
Off-Season News
I accepted the options on Demar DeRozan, Serge Ibaka and Iman Shumpet. Declined the options for Earl Clark and Solomon Alabai. I traded Shumpert, my '13 1st Rounder and Phoenix's '12 2nd rounder to the Hornets for their '13 1st Round Pick.
My big free agent acquisation was landing Chris Paul with a five year contract. I just barely had enough cap space to sign him but making the fifth year a player option allowed me to fit him in. I also picked up Bill Walker and Ike Digou for depth while bringing back Ryan Anderson, Earl Clark and Semih Erden to round out my lineup.
