Update:
The Heat following their heartbreaking Christmas day loss to the world champion Lakers managed to take care of the Knicks, Rockets and Warriors to win 3 straight without Lebron. However we have hit a rough patch and now are on a 3 game losing streak as we went on the road and lost to Charlotte, and blew a home and home with The Bucks getting blown out in Miami and then losing one at the buzzer in Milwaukee as Gilbert Arenas (who the Bucks aquired in a trade) drained a winning 3 pointer to give the Bucks a one point win.
The rough patch was due to some real fatigue setting in with Wade and Bosh doing a ton of heavy lifitng on the 3 wins we had in a row following Lebrons injury. James has returned to line-up (he played in the second game against the Bucks) and things hopefully will get back on the right track this evening as we play the 2nd game of what will end up being an 8 day 5 game road trip which will take us from Milwauke to Portland tonight, on to LA to face the Clippers, then to Denver, and up to Chicago. Mike Miller is still at least a week maybe 2 from getting back into the rotation (this is his second stint on the injury list already with a balky back). We really miss Miller. Not only can he shoot lights out, but he can bring the ball up when needed, is a great passer and can play good defense. I will limit his minutes upon his return unlike the last time he came back. I made the mistake of playing him 30 minutes a night and it is apparent to me he can only handle 20-23 minutes a night max. I need to manage my rotations a little better as this is a marathon not a race.
The Heat are tied with Atlanta for first place in the Eastern Conference at 25-14 The Celtics and Magic are battling for 2nd and 3rd and are only sitting 1.5 games out of first. Lebron James is an early front runner for MVP averaging 29 points, 5 assists and 8 rebounds a night. Dwayne Wade continues to kill it with 28 points a night and 5 assists. Bosh exploded on Warriors for a season high 40 points to go along with his 17 boards and he has been an automatic 17 and 10 every night. I had been tossing around getting Big Z into the starters role (like IRL)...but I don't want to risk injury with him taking on more minutes. He has been a rock off the bench along with Udonis. Chalmers continues to rack up the dimes and is now averaging 9 a game! He is really coming along and his offense has been there when called upon. I may work him more into the sets and call some plays for him now that I am getting confidence in him. Eddie House is also solid off the bench along with James Jones. Stackhouse has had a few moments.
The game is really challenging with the back to backs, and road games. And I am really starting to figure out sub patterns based on these factors.
The Heat rolls on tonight at Portland.
