We want change because there is a practical reason: the game has the same issues year after year after year after year after year. Is that not a reason for change? Or should we be satisfied with what we get because at least they didn't screw their game up like EA did.

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
Some people are presupposing(or hypothesizing to be fair) that new engines x, y, and z will eradicate legacy issues a,b, and c, when very easily the old issues could still remain and be joined by a whole new set of problems.
Well, eventually folks will get the newness that they are craving, I hope they aren't disappointed if it doesn't produce the results they're looking for.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
I probably shouldnt have used the word ps2 tech but its easier to say, but basically what i'm saying is that 2k series has been a port of the ps2 game, it was never built from the ground up to utilize the 360 or ps3 technology, some people will disagree but look at god of war 1 and 2 then look at 3 that is the jump Im looking for in this game.. Granted sports games have a shorter dev cycle but so what.chuckcross.bandcamp.com

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
I'm satisfied that 2K came with one of the most complete sports game developer efforts we've seen to date for a year-to-year release. They touched on pretty much every facet of the game. I don't buy the whole [paraphrasing "the game has a ton of issues that don't get addressed year after year". And it's wishful thinking that a "new" engine won't bring it's own new issues. 2K's made the right choices up to now despite the direction the community would've had them go in, so I'll continue to trust that they'll make the right choices going forward.
They just came out with one of the best sports game efforts to date where they brought in a lot of new fans, and people are predicting the game's demise next year? That's almost as bad as people saying 2K10 was going to be delayed until January because they weren't giving the community enough videos/informationHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
The last 2 years, fifa and nhl dominated my 360, but this year I can't put down 2k11. 2k11 is the best bball game because they built upon the same engine for the last 11 years. It just has so many intricacies of the sport that make it special. The game doesn't need a new engine, but it could use significant tweaks to certain parts of the current engine.
Ex. movement (although they did improve it this year), passing (more control like in college hoops 2k8) and better play recognition (while standing in circle).Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
The players in this game need to react with the precision that Madden players do. Imagine going for user picks and your defender waves at nothing or just completely whiffs and lets the WR have it? It happens to me all the time in 2k11.
If someone does nothing but attack paint and Pick N Roll spam I play as the big and guard the paint... but the bigs are too dumb to catch passes thrown right by their face STILL going into 2011.
It seems like the higher ranked defensive teams get a lot more breaks on this too. When I'm on O, I'll try to make a safe pass around the perimiter (using directional pass toward perimeter) and my player will slide behind the defender for an awful turnover that I had no business committing.
Also for the love of god can we NOT have the CPU on my team foul people?! I have enough of a task keeping turnovers down, I don't need my AI big men getting over the back or illegal screen when I don't ask them to.Comment

Precision? Madden? Sorry, I disagree. The warping on that game is inexplicable. The players arent very responsive at all on defense, they just, well, stand there. The players in this game need to react with the precision that Madden players do. turn d awareness and steal success up and there you have it... this games only problems for gameplay are pass trajectory, o-boards and something else that slips my mind...now other things can be improved, but this is a great game. The players in this game need to react with the precision that Madden players do. Imagine going for user picks and your defender waves at nothing or just completely whiffs and lets the WR have it? It happens to me all the time in 2k11.

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
Do you play Madden often? I control my middle linebacker or my safety and I'm a field general out there. I can defend the run and pass in man or in zone at the same time. My movement is smooth, I can audible or hot route and it's immediately effective. Someone throws on me and I immediately switch to make a play on the ball.. even on bullet passes I can get in position to make picks and swats. My players RECOGNIZE THE BALL.. as opposed to me swiping at nothing as the basketball goes through my defender's body! How is that unresponsive? You might just be bad at Madden, think about it. You can't even compare the responsiveness of the two at all. One has free motion, the other is canned responses and delayed reactions, 2k doesn't come close.
I'll throw you an example of what just happened. PG open on the perimeter, kick (no directional).. hit shot.. my player does a 180 dribble and goes out of bounds from touching the x button. THAT is inexplicable!
Poorly thrown pass, my player goes to catch and forgets how.. ball bounces 10 feet away (on a fly) to a now open player for easy open shot... pitiful.
Kick to open shooter, go to pump, my player for some reason has no dribble... must be new rules? On top of that my player is frozen, my other players aren't moving and I'm forced to use a TO just to reset.Last edited by BallH4wk31; 12-06-2010, 03:22 AM.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
I don't play much offline, the CPU isn't much of a challenge and is very predictable. My player is only fun for so long also. I like the competition of playing a thinking human and so I can't be adjusting sliders to compensate for poor planning. The game is good, but too many things keep it in the same league as 2k10.Comment

Re: Sooo when will 2k stop using ps2 tech?
i'm struggling to find the point of this thread. this is the best sports game i've ever owned. it is not low tech, it is awesome. but as always, some people just live to complain. My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10
3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.Comment
