I live near 2K Sports in the Bay Area and was told by a buddy of mine that used to work there but still has friends that still do work there, that they did the code thing to try and penalize the early game sellers. Some of the games with the code have slipped through to these mom and pops, but this is the the reason why some have them and some don't. He told me that Gamestop and other trusted retail venues like Target, Walmart and other stores will have them with codes. He says that 2K has been aware of the presellers for a long time and this was an opportunity for them to make sure people with the codes were the customers who waited and bought from the retail chains. The guy is pretty trustworthy so I tend to believe this explanation.

Not meant for the fans, but for the retailers, now the consumers of those (early sell) places will think twice about it next year, assuming 2k comes out after release with this information

Well the word has gotten out around here. You can't find an early release copy of any NBA 2K or even Madden/ EA games because both of those companies have headquarters out here in the Bay Area and they are known to send reps to stores randomly to peep out when and whats being sold by the stores.

The only problem with what they may/may not be trying to control is this is not gonna stop people from trying to get the game early?? Some maybe but most it won't deter them from trying to score a copy early.

To be honest, I see it more about them being more concerned about the exclusive content. The one time use of the code and unknown future availability or release of the code is enough to make somebody think twice if they now know that buying early gives you no advantage other than having the game but not all of the content. Haven't some folks tried to add the teams to roster files that have the code and not been able to do it? I think 2K is coming with the hard play with the exclusive stuff and the only way they can hopefully deter the early purchasers, is to make them feel as if they are missing out on the bonus treats that others get for waiting till release day.

i hope somewhere down the line when i can afford the game (month or so) that the code will still be available in a retail copy. i was obsessed with the kings and knew everything about them in 2001-2002. best team ever and i'd love to use them whether it be a code in the DVD case or a code obtainable later on via DLC or something.

I am sure that if you buy it later on, that you will have the codes.

If, IF, what was said above is true (I personally think it is, for my own reasons) then the guys who got the game early (w/o code) is due to 2k knowing which stores have sold early before and they shipped them games w/o the codes so that it may deter those stores from selling early again.

It's an in-game code that you put in through an option on the main menu of the game. It's a unique code, not a word or phrase. According to the sheet with the game (see pic I posted), it's a one use code. So the guy who asked about sharing codes, that's not going to work.

Just a theory, although it does say that it is a one time code i believe there is a chance it still may work. I you did not actually require xbox live/ playstation network at the time of entering the code then i can almost guarantee it will work for everyone. I say this because the data on the game disc will be the same for everyone with a copy of the game, therefore if entering the code unlocks the teams it will do so for everyone else.

This offcourse would not be true if online connectivity was REQUIRED for you to get the teams

If you guys dont know what the hell im talking about and it doesnt make sense, then bottom line is if someone has a USED code i think it would be worth letting other people try it because it may just work. As i said before NOT IF XBOX LIVE/PSN IS REQUIRED
