The separate issue, and the one that I believe is the real problem being identified in this thread, is that too many players can knock down 3's with their eyes closed because seemingly everyone is rated above 75. That's a huge issue and simply reducing the 3PT Accuracy slider (unless completely overdone below 48) will do nothing more than shift the abuse from the 3PT line to the already overpowered mid-range shot. That's not a solution, it's a workaround and a cheap bandage. They need to attack the problem from multiple angles and rosters are one of the options available.
They are but then again so is knocking the midrange and 3 point slider down by 3 points. I'm playing offline with this settings and getting very realistic results. Great 3 point shooters are still great but not godly and people like Rondo get only the ocassional 3 pointer. It plays out quite perfect even with the current roster.

For the umpteenth time, I'm telling you guys that the defense is the culprit, not the 3 point success slider or ratings. By upping the on-ball defense sliders, the success of contested 3's reduces dramatically.

It's def not a roster problem, its a slider problem. Lowering the slider to 48 is the way to go. Also, tuning Defense so when you're in the dude's face he misses.

Travis Outlaw 75 3PT can make 3s like Ray Allen if no one is in his face. The slider should be adjusted to 48. Travis Outlaw misses wide open 3s even though he is a 75. What would 48 do to Ray Allen 91? NOTHING. The 48 would spread it out a lot from the the 85-90s three point shooters from the 70-80 three point shooters.

Whether it means adding sliders to My Player or just toning down the CPU's 3 pt ability, something definitely has to happen in My Player. I've just been through a series against the Knicks and Carmelo was positively Ray Allen-esque through the whole thing. I have no problem with Billups taking and making a lot of threes but Carmelo was just looking for that shot and draining it way too much. He was basically unguardable.

Travis Outlaw shot 29% on his threes last year, in the bottom quarter of the league, and is rated a 75 and you don't see this as a problem?

Nobody is arguing that the 3PT slider needs to remain at 50, but you're staring another problem in the face and acting like it's OK when it's not.

love posts like this, so it is not a roster problem but you point out a roster problem.

I don't really have a problem with 3pt shooting to be honest. My problem is that I don't feel I make enough shots when I'm wide open. But as for the cpu, I personally think it is a matter of playing the right defense.

The only game I had problem with 3pt shooting defense was against the suns. They could not miss almost any shot for about 3 quarters, and the majority were contested.

I didn't point out any roster problem. Travis Outlaw at 75, I agree with whole heartedly. However, he can splash 3s in NBA 2K12 like I could've sworn he was rated 90. Online, I hit a 3 point fader with Sasha Vujacic and he is only rated 83- Heck, I do not even know if I had the timing right on the shot cause the indicator can't be used online this year, but that was nuts! My friend who uses the Kings hit a fade with Francisco Garcia for 3. Once again, this is NOT a roster problem! It is a mechanical problem and the only fix would be a slider. Slider at 47-48. At 50, everyone might aswell be 90. I play my game with Mid Range 48 and 3PT 48. When you have Dorrell Wright 61 Mid Range hittin swishes on you, there is a problem - now, he misses.

Hope I made myself clear - I love this game, I am an offline gamer, and I post on here to try and help the online guys.

I can't take it anymore time for a three point roster overhaul for my player it has broke the mode for me.

Right now as I type I'm editing. pg sg sf, 3pt attribute, 3pt hot spots, don't know if it will help but this is what I am doing.

In my player a player will not have a 3pt rating over 85 those top players that will have that rating will be ray Allen... Not Charlie bell or any third string guard... Period..... Lets see how stats and all of that turn out.... Don't care if it's accurate as long as when I play I don't have snipers shooting threes none stop

I certainly don't agree with you that the mid-range shot is over-powered... but if that's the case then that can get a drop as well in the future.

Do you really see that online however? Guys cheesing from mid-range taking open jumpers?

That doesn't even make sense to me.

People really need to learn how to contest with the RS. It will severely impact how successful a shot goes in. The problem here is the game is registering the "action" of putting the hand out but the user sees a really far distance b/w the contest and the shooter's face. So the user thinks the contest isn't playing out. The RS contest on a SHOT should NOT be 360 degrees (but that's for another topic).

Lowering the 3pt slider is only going to put a band-aid on something that has a slightly deeper problem. Even if you alter the rosters, you're still going to see the other problems you claim to see....

I'm not saying it won't help... but it's not the end-all, be-all solution most are making their suggestion seem like.

The 3pt attribute plus hot spots plus consistency rating affects the way shots fall against CPU in my player.....bench players consistency should not be on par with starters editing those also

Ive seen this happen multiple times.

I couldn't agree you more on this! Even if I contest a jumper(NOT ONLY 3pt) using block button(triangle for ps3), the ball just goes through the net. It seems like contesting shots don't matter for the cpu.

Pared - do you think the shot quality display would be a good way to check whether a shot contest "registered"? I know a lot of factors go into that letter grade (shot timing probably being the biggest). But if you you took a shot with good release timing that's in your player's range, and he gets a C or something, is that a sign that it was probably contested?

1st: Thank you for taking feedback here.

                                My Report: MyPlayer 12min quarters, Pro/All-star Sim, PG - Played 30 games (10 on Pro/sim and 20 on All-Star/sim).

My Observations: The issue is the Defense. The Defense is collapsing properly and helping on inside drives, however it fails to pick up outside shooters, to properly react to inside out passing, and it does not adjust to cover hot shooting players, once they start on runs.

The end results is the CPU defenders end up sagging off of the shooters too much and they get caught in between players, leaving them wide open. It sometimes looks like the defenders contest the shot - however the announcers always comment on how "open" the shooters are.

If at all possible, I would prefer an increase in the defenders ability to contest shots; 2k11 3-point shot percentages were extremely low and it diminished my enjoyment of the game by turning it into mainly an inside game. 2k12 has both an inside and outside game, it just needs some tweaking on defense so that both inside and outside game elements are still utilized.
