Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
A DWill and Howard trade scenario. Now this takes into account the leverage that both teams are losing due to being under the gun of the trade deadline and Dwill pretty much wont sign anywhere they trade unless he approved due to being a FA at seasons end.
LAL gets Howard and Dwill
NJ gets Gasol, Turkoglu and Morris
ORL gets Bynum, Okur (expiring contract purposes) and Gaines and LAL 1st rd pickComment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
No not really. Im not even declaring that it is even but considering the circumstances this is very plausible. DWill pretty much controls his own destiny b/c the 2-3 or teams he would like to go to dont have the pieces to trade for him. In this case Otown and NJ actually get a big, fresh possible talent and a draft pick while unloading a bad contract in Okur.Comment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
Is there really such a thing as "Fair Value" for Dwight Howard? The reason Orlando would trade him is so they at least something for him(i.e. the second best center in Bynum) as apposed to nothing if he walks LeBron style."You come at the King, you best not miss..."Comment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
All right,
Dpauley23 and I have put together something fun and OPTIONAL you can do in the offseason to simulate NBA reality a bit more closely. It adds some variety and a degree of randomness to every team's quest for the title.
Once again, this is OPTIONAL - please don't criticize the idea if you don't plan on implementing it - it's YOUR game, YOUR choice.
If you are interested, here's how it works:
- At the end of each season, each team will go through player progression as usual. The CPU will progress younger players and regress older players.
- You'll then go through the NBA draft & free agency as usual. Here's the update: make sure each team has 15 players (you'll see why shortly).
- Then you'll take players of your choosing to training camp to improve their skills for each team
- At the end of training camp (right at the very beginning of your next season before any games are played) one player on each team at random will get worse, and one player on each team you took to training camp will have a 50% chance of getting better (on top of your training camp results).
- For a player to get worse: before a player is chosen to get worse, each team protects 4 players. They can be any age, any skill level. Pick the 4 guys you believe the team values the most. Because every team has 15 players at this point and protects 4, 11 are at risk to decline. Assign a # to each player. Find a random number generator (like random.org or an app for your phone) and pick a random # between 1-11. So if #5 pops up, and a player is assigned #5, he will get worse. Then pick a random number between 1-4...whatever is selected is how many OVR points he will decline. The player will then LOSE 3 POT points as well (every player that gets worse always loses 3 potential points regardless).
- For a player to get better: Only the players you took to camp can get better (because you already chose for them to improve their game in the offseason). So if you took 3 guys to camp, assign each player a #, then pick a random # 1-3. If #3 is chosen, player #3 then has a 50% chance of improving. If he gets to improve, pick a random #1-4 to decide how many OVR pts he gets better. Then pick a random # 1-3 to decide how many POT pts he improves.
For young players, adjust their awareness +/- to boost/lower overall.
For older players, adjust their speed and/or shooting +/- to boost/lower overall.
Although the odds of this are extremely unlikely, no player can worsen/improve 3 years in a row to keep things fair.
If that's confusing, here's an example:
You're controlling the Bobcats in the offseason. You check out your player progression to see who the CPU improves/worsens. You draft a player, go through free agency as usual, pick up a 15th player to even out the roster, and then you send your players to training camp to improve their skills. After every team has been through training camp, you then enter the randomization process. (Making sure you do it for each team before any games are played).
Let's say you sent DJ Augustin, Kemba Walker, and Tyrus Thomas to training camp. Before you pick a player to get worse, pick 4 to protect. Because you took those 3 to training camp, you're probably going to protect them...and Gerald Henderson too because you're controlling a young team. So those 4 guys are protected. For the remaining 11, you assign each guy a #, then pick a random #. Reggie Williams is selected. Pick a random # 1-4. 3 is chosen. So Reggie Williams loses 3 OVR and 3 POT.
You took Augustin, Walker, and Thomas to training camp, so assign each of these guys a # 1-3. There's a 50% chance one of them will improve. Let's say the good 50% is chosen. So pick a #1-3...and let's say Walker is chosen. Pick another #1-4 to see how many points he gets better and a # 1-3 to see how many POT points he grows. So let's say he gets 2 OVL better and gains 1 POT point.
Then you would just do this for each team until everyone's been through the process and then you would start the season.
Why do this? Well, the biggest reason why is because 2K's progression system is pretty boring. Every young player goes up every year, and every old player goes down. There's no chance for a veteran to get better late in his career or for a young player to hit an unexpected slump. This randomization helps create "sophomore slumps" and draft busts from time to time. You'll see more variety and a more intriguing offseason. And above all, because there's only a 50% chance for players to get better, across the league, player's OVERALL and POTENTIAL ratings should be a tad lower. With solid draft classes, Bedwards potential work, and this offseason tweak, your league shouldn't become flooded with too many talented players by year 8 like it does if you don't have these things going for you.
Let me or Dpauley23 know if you have any questions - we're more than happy to answer them. Once you get the hang of this, each team should take about a quick minute to go through this process in the offseason, so you're only looking at an additional 30 mins of work.Last edited by SwaggerCoach; 01-23-2012, 12:38 AM.Comment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
Swagger, are you saying that regardless of how much a players overall decreases, his POT always goes down by 3? Sorry, I just wanted to clarify. The idea sounds really interesting.Tennessee Volunteers

Yes, regardless of how many OVR he declines, his POT always goes down by 3. Dpauley and I wanted this to be set in stone because the game goes out of its way to increase player potential enough as it is.Comment
