    Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread

ALL STAR SIM 8 mins for me..

I played about 8 games. 3 of which are against the computer.

Against the lakers, bulls, and 92 Dream Team. Boy oh boy, the stars do play like stars, Kobe went all blackmomba on me. Kobe was using pump fakes, hesitations, and post moves to exert his dominance on the game. Kobe, called for the ball visibly when he was open also while in the post with the smaller Brandon Roy on him.

D Rose was just as lethal, but in a different way. Used his speed, and explosive moves to light me up for 24 points and 8 assists. I had a hard time getting in front of him, so when bringing the extra defender he dished the ball off, or just pulled up.

The 92 Dream Team was a treat to watch. Larry Legend was the main scorer, it seem like if you gave him 3-4 inches, he will drill the shot. He was slow, did not have many moves, but he would bump me and make a few inches to pull the shot. Jordan was skying to the rim with acrobatic moves and smooth lay ins. David Robinson was able to body the smaller Chandler, and it was really no contest.

Now - on to the negatives... Let me preface this... This is the most complete basketball game, i've played. Maybe even sports games.

    - Offensive Rebounds needs to be fixed. It's frustrating boxing out just to have a guard or someone swoop in and grab the board 11 ft high in the air.

    - Hop step. I found that being a "go to move" for a lot of users (including myself).

    - Maybe this is just me, but there were times were I beat my man off the dribble or caught a rebound and wanted to take off. However, he was pretty slow in doing so. Other times it worked, maybe its user error.. who knows..

    - Minor clipping still, going through the back board bothers me still. (nit picking i know)

    - No long rebounds, All rebounds land within 5 feet off the hoop it seems. I would like to see a shot off the back of the iron fly off the rim towards the free throw line or the 3 points line.

I know i have a lot of negatives, however - i'm nit picking on a lot. Its an awesome game, and I cannot wait until I pick this up for the PC version as well.

      HUGE NEGATIVE

still can't change jerseys in OA,
Trade Vetoing is back (most annoying part of that OA was people vetoing trades and it taking 24 hrs.)
Can't rejoin if you leave lg.

That is a huge disappointment. Especially the trading part. What is 2k thinking. Admins should be deciding whether the trade is to be approved or not. Not every person in the league. Damn

I agree with all the positives people are saying around here, and it is a tremendous game. However, I am going to focus on some of the not so great things associated with the game:

        1. It feels as if the picks and the PNR are too strong. Too often (even on All-Star difficulty) I can pretty much set a screen with any big man and he will roll to the basket without any pressure. There seems to be a lack of defensive rotation awareness there. It may be fixed with sliders, but I have not yet tested it yet.

        2. The lack of defensive rotations is also evident off of a miss. You will miss a shot, the CPU will rebound, and throw a long outlet pass for an easy dunk. User can do the same.

        3. I do not see a "Pick Strength" slider

        4. Could not find a way to turn off autosave

        5. I think a lot of people will complain about rebounding. I do not see proper boxing out. It is not as bad as the demo, but there are still issues.

        6. The CPU seems to get a majority of its points in the paint. This could be on me for playing poor defense, but a combination of CPU constantly attacking the rim/getting offensive rebounds may be contributing to that. I have lowered various tendency sliders (inside shots, close shots, attack the rim, etc.) and it does not seem to help much. May I have to check the coach profiles?

        7. Open threes are hit at an alarming rate. I would even go as far to say that 90% of open threes go in if the player has any ability. Maybe this too can be fixed by sliders.

        8. I have blocked shots numerous times in the paint and it has been called goaltending.

That is all I can think of right now. These seem like minor issues that can likely be fixed via sliders or a quick patch. Loving the game.

Who are you playing for the CPU to get most of its points in the paint? I'm playing the Bulls right now and its halftime and the PIP is 26 to 14 in favor of me and the score is 47 to 43 the Bulls have the lead. I'm playing on Superstar(Simulation) 10 min qtrs.

The the pace of the game is amazing. Rose started off the game picking up 2 quick fouls and had to go to the bench. Hinrich comes in and picks up 2 fouls with like 7 mins and some change to go in the second quarter and Rose had to come back in the game. They were already in the Bonus with 7 mins to go in the 2nd. I have never saw this in any basketball game I have ever played. The game is just so organic and each game feels different with a different flow to it.

And I must say again that if you do not have a good angle or time your blocks, don't jump and try to block layups (especially dunks). Their will be body contact and you'll get the foul. Much more realistic. People no longer can just run around the court all game and just try to blocks jumping all over the place.

And I must say fatigue is done well this year. I see gatorade underneath players before the end of the 1st quarter, something I've never saw before. You can just dribble like crazy all game long because that takes down your fatigue as well. That combined with the fouls being called you really have to utilize your bench this year along with using your timeouts to get your players some rest.

So much more I can say but im about to get back to this game.

Sucks to know that the grading for the MyPlayer is still not all that great. I just finished the Rookie Showcase with 11/8/6 on 45% shooting and 0 turnovers. I had maybe 4 "Allow Man to Score's", a handful of "Bad Call for Passes" (even though I was open in the paint on all of them) and I only barely finished with a B+. The only reason why I finished with a B+ was because I set ball screen's constantly.

Other than that, the game play feels very smooth after one game played.

I have played against a variety. I can understand the Heat getting more than 50% of their points in the paint, but the Raptors shouldn't be.

I agree with the foul calls, and fatigue. They are terrific. Developers finally got them right.

That is called "putting the 2K12 game back in to your game console" trick. But seriously, I could not figure out the controls in the demo and felt overwhelmed when Beluba posted the advanced controls on here. However, once I went into my usual 2K camera, it just felt natural. I would say rent the game before if you think you won't like the controls.

I'm kind of pissed that 2k decided to leave a lot of models untouched for players that are really outdated or just plain wrong. Wilson Chandler is still about 5 shades too dark. Amare still didn't get his new goggles yet Lebron got his thick headband. Tyson Chandler still has his haircut from 5 years yet they went through the trouble to update his tattoo. Hell, they're still using using the Mike Woodson face from 2k8 where he has just had a moustache. It may be nitpicking , but I find it kind of annoying that they can leave certain players out but update guys like Lebron, Dwade, and Mike Miller every single year.

I agree. PNR is far too easy as well. I am playing offline, but have set defensive awareness for the CPU to 100 and I am seeing NO rotation. It is easy two points every time down no matter what difficulty setting you are playing on.

Driving to the paint and scoring is way too easy and hard to block. Just lost a game because Ty Lawson made a straight up layup ( no glass work) on Brook Lopez. Dunks are also hard to stop, at first this was welcomed but now it's feeling like 2k11 on steroids/Nba Jam. Great Game other than that. Oh and there are Foamposites.

I tried to tinker with sliders to eliminate it, but it isn't working. Raising the "Help Defense Strength" slider 100 may have helped it slightly, but I am not too sure. Will have to play a bit more after work tomorrow.

PNR defense, extremely easy outlet passes, and defensive rotations should definitely be top priority for the first patch.

I love using quick guards. Using Rondo was so much fun, driving and kicking... Same with Chris Paul. Guard play is a dream with the bounce passes, hop steps kick outs... I have not had this much fun playing a game since live '95 back in the day when they introduced ally oops.
