    Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread

well, the honeymoon is over, and as happens every year, the issues are starting to repeat themselves enough to be apparent. i've been saving replays and will have some videos eventually discussing the issues i'm seeing.

but for now i'll just type what i see.

passing still doesn't feel as good as 2k11. the main problem i have is that cutting teammates often stop cutting when you pass them the ball, even if you try to lead them with lead pass. this was not an issue in 2k11, but now it's happening a lot in 2k13.

teammates are just plain failing to cut to the hoop, even when there is an obvious WIDE OPEN cutting lane to the hoop. it's really annoying when one of my bigs has a wide open lane and could just cut to the hoop for and easy dish and layup, but he just stands on the perimeter like a moron. this is one area where 2k11 really was great - off-ball teammates in 2k11 were great at recognizing open lanes to the hoop and would instantly cut if their man gave them a lane for even a split second.

still seeing some wonky contextual layups...it's MUCH better than 2k12, but every once and a while my player will do some dumb layup animation where he'll use the wrong hand, go the wrong way, or just do a super slow animation and get blocked because of it.

there are a few other things, but i can't remember them right now. I'll have some videos coming once i get the motivation to break out the video camera again.

anyway, 2k13 is still a good game, but issues remain...and some areas of the game still aren't as good as they were in 2k11.

One thing that's bugging me is when you run pick and roll, A guard comes down to the block and post up or just stands there on the side your big man is going to be rolling which just clogs up the lane. I've run space court, changed tendencies, etc but no matter what they always come down

So....Monta Ellis just dropped 50 points on me.

He only took 42 shots (Of which he made 20, only 2 were threes) to get there though

Doubt I'll ever try to use the regular 2k rosters again.

Leaners (dribble pull-ups) aren't implemented properly, thanks to the stupid animation. in 2k11 and 2k12, you would create a bit of separation then take a leaner which allow just enough space to take a good shot.

In 2k13, you create separation, then your guy barely drifts, meaning everyone and their mother can block you

yeah, this annoys me. you have to call a play that involves a pick in order for your teammates to space properly. if you just use the regular "call pick" controls, your SG will always run down under the hoop and clog the lane - annoying.

i've found that the leaner animations vary from player to player. some players have great leaner animations, while others are terrible.

for example, Kyrie Irving has great leaner and drifter animations - he really keeps moving as he gets the shot off....on the other hand, Westbrook has terrible leaner animations and he can't even drift at all on jumpers - even if you mash LS and shoot, he always just stops and pulls straight up rather than drifting.

Really trying to have fun with this game playing the AI but it's been tough. Pro seems to easy (you're given too much room to operate on offense) and all star is unplayable for me. I can live with being beat, but the bs tactics on this level are too much.

Still waiting for a game where I feel like a got beat by legitamate, sound, basketball plays by the CPU.

just played the nba today game of the day celtics/heat..and during the halftime report it went to this screen where I could guess who would win the games that day. Anyone else get this? Also The analysts referred back to Reese during the middle of the 3rd quarter while I was about to shoot freethrows and he told me the final scores of the day. I thought that was pretty cool I never witnessed that before. Good stuff 2k!!

thats because if you ever watch westbrook play he does stop and pop jumpers from either side of the free throw line or he goes to the basket. He doesn't shoot leaners in real life, so why would he be good at them in the game. Just a thought.

gotta go all-star and really mess with the sliders.. Turn down offensive rebounding and defensive rebounding for ai, turn your offense ability up just a little bit on everything, turn your fouls up. Turn down steal success a little bit on computer. And turn down offenseive things like mid-range, threes layups, contact layups for the a.i..

Im starting to finally get a good slider set going with all-star ... after I tweak just a little bit I will post.

One way to decribe this game: you can not play it as if its a AAU game...

I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

Online Rebounding is TURRRRRIBLE....I've never seen so many Offensive rebounds after a shot...Its like the defending team doesn't want the ball...Its crazy.

Is anyone else seeing this in online H2H play?

Once again, we have a game with the potential to be crazy good, but is in desperate need of a patch to fix the big issues.

Missing scoreboard, CPU relentlessly pushing the ball upcourt and jacking up shots, CPU big men rarely work the post (all their points come off putbacks and occasional passes right underneath the basket), far too difficult to block layups/dunks, etc.

I think the 2K team can deliver the goods, but until then it's tough to get excited about playing the game.

Quite possibly because there a very little big man play in today's nba. Most big man points come off pg assist or pour back. Today's big man doesn't posses the skill of a mchale.

Agreed, but I played a game last night where Tony Parker shot 31 shots and Tim Duncan took 4. This is with Post Shots and Look for Post cranked to 100.

                                That shouldn't happen.
