Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
I'm very happy with this game. I can play it very close to a simulated basketball game thanks to slider settings and other stuff. I like that it's not completely a simulation, this is why it is a video game. There is nothing really I don't like in the game. I didn't like at the beginning that I can't drive and dunk, but I realized it's not the game, rather than me not playing that well so I went and trained myself in different play styles. I wanted to dribble and stuff and I realized there are so much more option to attack the basket than just trying to straight dribble or ankle break. Good game, probably the best sports game at the moment. I'm also having a ton of fun with the different game modes. Association is awesome I have started around 3. Newest with my new kinda getting to the favorite status team for a year now, Memphis. Like I said it's awesome to have Bradley Beal supporting Rudy Gay and David West (sub) for Randolph.Last edited by Rewmac; 11-14-2012, 08:09 AM."I'll tell you there is still a little Vinsanity left in Vince"

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
just wanted to give an update: i'm still liking this game a lot. not really any MAJOR issues for me. for the most part, this game works and it plays well. i recently went down to Pro/Default settings, as Sim/All-star had too much CPU cheese going on. I noticed the rebounding is more balanced and fair on Pro/Default. There was a stretch when I was playing on Sim/All-star where the CPU was beating me on the offensive glass like 11-1 every game. Seems like the game's way of making the CPU "harder" is just to have them get every offensive rebound. I couldn't take that garbage, so i went down to Pro/Default, and i'm liking the game a lot more now - still a decent challenge, but more fair on Pro/Default. The improved explosiveness, speed, and better dunk/layup animations make a world of difference in 2k13.Last edited by blues rocker; 11-14-2012, 10:53 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
I'm tired of 2k releasing these half-*** games. There are too many things wrong with this game for me to list. I don't feel like it. I feel the most important one that list is the lack of physical collision at the rim, offensive rebounding and lack of defense completely.
There's D if you have a good defender. A lot of it has to do with momentum. If a guy has a lot of momentum driving to the rim -- game over. I can try to get in his way before he gains speed and gets in the paint. Also try to steal passes in the paint so they don't get good position.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
I take back what I've been saying about O. Rebound problems, for My Career at least. In association mode since I can control the whole team, I haven't see the problem, but My Career is another story some times it's close so like +/- 3 and sometimes the CPU outrebounds us on the offensive glass by 9 to 20.Say "No" to railroaded MC modes.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Still not liking this game very much. I can tell within the first quarter if the game will be a win or loss just by the amount of scripted events and canned animations that favor the CPU.
All Star - Sim Settings
The right stick for dribble moves is fine but why did they put basic moves like crossover and stepback on the left stick. It's a pain trying to dribble your player how you want with out some type of dribble move getting triggered. Keep left stick for movement only, not dribble moves.
Computer still gets to do whatever they want whenever they want. Passing the ball threw legs most commonly but also other body parts. Ball warping to the computers hands on rebounds even when boxed out and out of position.
Computer driving to the lane is a huge problem, the computer will dance around until you either slide out of position or get pushed out of position, they then shoot out like a cannon past you on a layup animation that ignores the big men in the paint. Half the time they don't even run plays, just ISO dance around until you get pushed out of position.
Animations are still pushing players out of the way on layups and dunks. What's the point of trying to take a charge when the animation just pushes the player inside the restricted area and gives a free bucket and sometimes the and 1.
Blocking is broken again, clean blocks called fouls, player controlled attempted blocks still garbage. It's like when you try to block someone instead of using their arm they are holding out a stick that can't bend or move in any direction, it can only go straight up.
On ball defense is still hit or miss for regular players and even signature skilled ones. The computer can body up any dribbler and push them back, when the player tries to body up the CPU the player gets pushed backwards or pushed to the side most of the time. Defense assist can be at 0,50 or 100 it doesn't matter. Sometimes the player defender will just bug out and bounce around like a pinball.
Close out defense on shooters is all the same, no matter the player size or position, the CPU closes out lighting fast. Mean while, my AI teammates will stand around picking flowers and half attempt a close out. Sometimes they"ll even leave their man wide open and wonder around into the paint or backside for no reason.
Every team plays the same, fast break first, iso dribble around second, points in the paints always. I hardly ever see the CPU run a play for a 3 pointer or mid range jump shot. I see maybe 1-2 mid range jump shots a game from the CPU. CPU going to the big men and using the post doesn't exist.
If you dribble in front of you standing in place the CPU will steal it no problem(which is fine) however, the CPU will just dribble in front of itself with out protecting the ball at all and if you attempt to steal the ball it's a reach in foul almost every time. You can be standing directly next to the ball with your hand touching the ball on the steal attempt it doesn't matter.
Halftime show is the ugliest thing I've ever seen in a sports game. The highlight window is all tiny while rest of the entire screen is that stupid yellow volume speaker animation trash, this is the same for between quarters and previewing a upcoming game. Seriously, who thought anything about that looked good?
I could keep going and complaining but what's the point? I"ll keep the game and try it out a few more times when the patch rolls around, unless there's a huge difference I will be selling this game back and go back to 2k11. This game is a great arcade mainstream basketball game with a bunch of fancy dribble moves and dunks, it's the furthest thing I've seen of basketball sim and really hope this isn't the direction 2k is planning to keep going on future basketball titles. If flopping was rewarded in real life as it is in the NBA, I’d swerve into guard rails each time someone changed lanes in front of me. - Alan HahnComment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
This game's little anti-player algorithms or whatever need to be tweaked. I just had Damian Lillard drive for what should've been a wide open dunk or layup. No one within five feet of him, but he does that falling away from the rim, wrong hand layup they've added this year. I don't mind when it's done in traffic when you try to force things that aren't there. But it's late in the game, this happens? I pass to wide open players or I am wide open near the rim and I fumble with the ball like I'm Brendon Haywood with a hands rating of -34 or something. Either way it's just long enough for the D to recover.
I see it in other places. Sometimes when bringing the ball up court if I go near the sidelines, the CPU almost certainly will do some bump animation that makes me step out of bounds. Fine. I can accept that. It's realistic. But I've done the same to the CPU and there is literally an invisible force field that kept them in bounds. You can even see it making the animation stop in place even though they're still riding your bump and should be getting nearer to the sideline. Bad enough they can still steal passes they shouldn't have any clue are coming, but that's just not fair.
I STILL get slapped with Bad Call for Pass even when I'm wide open. It takes nothing into account the position of your players on the court. You just passed the allocated numbers of free calls for the ball, and on the Xth one you get slapped with a penalty, no matter the circumstance.
Game is very fun otherwise.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Before I go on my rant I have to say that I have been playing games for 20 years and have never complained, if its bad I just take it for what it is. But I have to vent my complaints this time. I would be very interested to know if anyone else has a problem with any of these. This has to do with the mycareer section of the game.
1. I am a 6'4 pg, can anyone tell me why I am spending the 4th quarter of games playing pf? Its hard enough to get a decent performance score in this game but im tired of having all of my hard work getting taken because Im having to guard pf's.
2. The 4th quarter is just ridiculous. You can not hit a shot, complete a pass or play any defense. My team missed 5 layups in a row at one point, and missed 7 out of 11 free throws. And that is not just one game, its a consistent thing.
3. Player movement is so so bad. At times it even seems I am no longer in control of my player. I try to play tight defense and my player just rolls off of the ball handler to one side or the other. I move the stick just a touch and I flop 5 feet off to the side.
4. There are times in every game that your ratings mean absolutely nothing. You work hard to get your player built up to a great player and there are just times where none of that matters. Someone sneezes on you and you cough up the ball, your player will not move, your team mates just do not help on defense, if you get screened off the ball your team mate will not switch and take your guy, he just lets him go to the basket.
I have been playing 2k basketball games since they started putting them out and I just cant understand why year after year the same issues are there.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Is it me, or does anyone else notice that in some association games, the score dictates the success/failure of the user? It's not every game, I'd say 1 in every 5. If I'm winning or the score is tied, my teammates stop boxing out and just become generally bad at basketball. Then, when the computer gets the lead, it's like I'm allowed to be good again until the score gets close, then the cycle repeats.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Hi guys, my first post here. I feel like I'm going to pop a vein in my forehead every time I play it:
- Played Phoenix today. Turnovers were about even, I out-shot them 57% to 45%, but they grab 23 offensive rebounds and win by 25 or so. They literally got half of their misses back. This is common.
-My players just don't respond to loose balls. Players have balls balancing on their heads or backs and don't realize, they steal the ball and then stand over it doing nothing, the ball comes off the rim and hits the ground straight through 3 of my players and they stand there while my opponent grabs it.
- The cpu never misses open 2s and floaters.
- Even when I have good position for a rebound, the cpu just jumps over my back, pushes me out of the way (well, I slide in mid-air) and takes the rebound. My players often won't even jump for the rebound and if they do they'll often do it after the cpu has already secured it. It doesn't appear to matter what the players are rated for rebounding either.
- Star players a way overpowered. I play as OKC and Russell Westbrook can pretty much score at will. He's currently averaging 35 points on 65% shooting. He went for 88 points against the Wolves on 36 of 46 shooting with 22 dunks. This is on Superstar difficulty. That was just enough to get us an overtime win.
- Players jump around all over the place when I just want to move them a little bit.
- CPU players pass and shoot straight through my players.
- All AI opponents seem to play the same way and have the same ability. Seems like any player can regularly hit a fade away, upside-down, spinning, round the back shot. Same goes for passing.
- CPU seems to know I'm going to miss shots before I take them. They'll leave great shooters open and I'll get a great rating on my release and still miss. Then they'll fly up court with some guy rated about 65 and drive through my entire team, absorb contact and make the shot. And another thing is that the cpu is incredibly good at making perfect passes out of drives. You just don't get rewarded for playing good defense. The CPU seems to be playing NBA Jam and I'm trying to play a 5 on 5 game.
- When I miss a shot inside, my play is unresponsive for a few seconds and won't jump for the rebound no matter how hard I hammer the jump button whereas when the cpu misses a shot, they're back off the ground before they touch it.
Hopefully I'll have something more positive to say in my next post. Apologies for the rant.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Biggest problems Ive had on all star:
- The cpu free throw percentage overall is about 92% 20 games into the season.
- My players very rarely intercept passes while the cpu can intercept pretty much whatever it wants.
- The rebounding is terrible. I have Dwight freaking Howard and he is constantly having balls grabbed from behind him, the cpu never gets over the back fouls but if I try to rebound I get them. The user cpu players don't box out and flat out suck and give up way too many offensive rebounds.
- And the computer can drive into contact and make the shot but if theres any contact on me, even if it's Kobe I miss. If they are fouled the shots often fall for an and one but if it's me I very rarely get that to happen. But I am rarely even fouled.
- Dwight Howard literally loses the ball if he runs with it or moves with it more than 2 feet without backing in. Every time.
An example of how frustrating this game can be. I was playing Utah, they were 21/21 from the free throw line and in the last minute they hit a contested turn around 3 ball and then Al Jefferson hit a contested 20 foot jumper to win the game both after steals when I was trying to pass in to Howard. Lost by 2.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Guys, the NBA Christmas day unis have been updated in game ... some of them are rough. Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, Clippers, Heat, Celtics, Nuggets, Nets, Rockets, and Thunder get the Christmas day unis. Best looking of the bunch are the Nets, Nuggets, Celtics, Heat IMO. The rest are eye sores.Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread
Damn... It took a while... but I finally got the game this weekend. This is a really great game. The controls are deep as they have ever been. But learning all these moves is a bitch. I still get caught trying to do dribble moves with the left stick. I'm so use to the right stick being the shot stick. I don't know if I'm going to be able to let go. I've had open lanes for lay ups/dunks/spot jumper. And I press shot stick for a shot and nothing will come out because I'm not pressing the shot mod button (L2). It's been happening at a alarming rate. I don't know what to do. But like I said before. I LOVE all the moves you can do with the new controls.
I haven't played vs a human yet. So I can't talk about vs matches. But I really was happy playing the CPU (on Pro think). The CPU on Pro actually makes human mistakes from time to time. Which I loved!!
But I fully enjoyed every game I played last night. Can't wait to play my friends.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories
