    Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread

I had the same problem at first man (I think everyone did). I would miss open opportunities and lanes because I would forget to hold LT to shoot.

What really solved the problem for me was putting in time in Practice mode. Training camp to learn the moves, and lots of time in Freestyle to practice shooting with LT + RS and building the muscle memory.

Also another thing that helped was using the shot button (X) in the beginning. Training camp actually teaches you the different shooting moves using the shot button instead of the shot stick. Its definitely easier to pull the moves off with buttons, so I used that mostly at first, but it just feels more like basketball and more fluid using the shot stick, so I forced myself to get used to the LT modifier in Freestyle.

I have to say, by now my brain is so trained that I use both the shot stick and shot button for different situations. Certain things are just easier with buttons...basically anything that involved a double tap of the R-stick to me doesn't feel very natural, so I will instead use B and X for those shots- hop shots, stepbacks, eurostep layup, hop layups, etc. I can never quite get the hang of double tapping the R-stick, I always seem to miss the second tap or something. I have been forcing myself to get used to it more lately, but it still feels weird.

Overall its a tradeoff. I felt much more in tune with shooting last year, things just felt like more of a natural extension of the brain last year with just using the R-stick in different directions. However I can't argue with how much dedicating the R-stick to dribble moves opens up the game. It really feels more natural and fluid. I guess it was a necessary change, but I still think shooting overall feels a little less natural this year.

I totally agree with you!! And Thank you for the tips!! I have gone through the training camp (twice lol) and freestyle mode (every single time I play). But still 5 days later. I'm still not getting use to this whole change. But like you said it was necessary to expanded the game. I really love all the post moves you can do. Still getting a hang of those which is crazy deep. Another thing I'd like to add. Is that I like the defense this year. It just feels awesome man to man in my opinion.

I like the playoff presentation this year, stat overlays and comments are actually about the playoffs this year. They compare players season stats to post season stats, show what players did in the last round. I like it.

I've had open lanes for lay ups/dunks/spot jumper. And I press shot stick for a shot and nothing will come out because I'm not pressing the shot mod button (L2). It's been happening at a alarming rate. I don't know what to do. But like I said before. I LOVE all the moves you can do with the new controls.

I haven't played vs a human yet. So I can't talk about vs matches. But I really was happy playing the CPU (on Pro think). The CPU on Pro actually makes human mistakes from time to time. Which I loved!!

But I fully enjoyed every game I played last night. Can't wait to play my friends.
you may just want to switch to using the shot button - i made the switch to the button pretty early, and i don't really miss the shot stick at this point. the button works well.

one this that's bothering me right now is that the CPU seems too good at on-ball defense on All-Star difficulty. Even when i'm using a fast guard, it feels like the CPU defender can just suction to me and cut me off way too successfully. On Pro difficulty it's a bit too easy, as the CPU will sag way off of you...it's like there's too much of a leap between Pro and All-Star when it comes to the CPU's defense.

I am just having fun with this year's game. But, the single feature that should be in every single sports game is one that this game has. When starting a franchise, you can start either from the beginning or "as of today". That is huge and something that The Show needs to copy now.

                  Re: NBA 2K13 Impressions Thread

I just picked up the game last night. First NBA game in probably 7 or 8 years. Playing as the Pistons I traded Prince away and Villanueva. I have Al Harrington, a couple other guys and 2 draft picks out of the deal.

Love this game and had to put it on rookie difficulty for now so I can learn the controls. It's frustrating how I can have a clear path to the hoop and the defender can get between me and the hoop stopping me dead in my tracks unable to progress even using the sprint button. CPU defense is always faster.

Still a really fun game and I look forward to making the Pistons a Championship contender.

I want to love this game (put 180 hours into 2K12) but I'm stuck in between pro and allstar and I don't have the time to dedicate to learning the controls as I have a newborn baby.

I'm beating the CPU by an average of 10-20 on pro but as soon as I switch it up a level I become way too frustrated at what feels like a bias towards the CPU. I only get maybe 1-2 hours of gaming time per week at the moment so for now this is going away in favor of something a little more user friendly.

So I've return after a thanksgiving of playing I'm finally getting hang of the controls! And it is down right awesome! So many moves! I love that the button gives you the same control if you don't want to use the sticks.

One of the things I notice about the cpu this year is that they make alot mistakes. It was really refreshing to see the cpu get called for traveling. I've even stolen inbound passes after scores. Which was really nice to see the cpu not make the logical choice.

I also got to play some humans finally to really see if the game gets cheesy. But not once playing anyone online or locally did I feel abused. I actually loved that people were playing on ball defense because if you didn't. You would get hammered. Offensive rebounds can be a little much. But I liked it. Because the players that were getting the rebounds were known players to do that. Reggie Evans, Gerald Wallace and Kris Hump get tons of offensive boards in really life. So it didn't bother me much.

But finally..... Why is Chris Webber not in the game?!! You can't have the Kings from that year and not have Chris Webber. I'm sorry but the team shouldn't even be in the game if the main Superstar of the team isn't in the game.

Its weird as Webber, Dr. J, and Kareem were in the game last year but not this time. You would think they'd have a multi year deal

I've kept my mouth shut on these forums for a few weeks now. All of these fake wanna be sim players who cry if you even attempt to play real basketball, they claim you should run a play every time down the court and when you do do that and rip them a new one they still cry. This forum is the worse one on operation sports. clearly nobody understands how to play this game very well. This game is great but you have to apply yourself. You can't watch the computer try to rebound you have to run with your player and go grab it. If you want to intercept passes you have to switch to the player and steal it. If you want to make contact layups you need to use the right moves for the right players. If you ever have played 2k none of this is new. Sick and tired of people berating this game just because they are no good at it. Yes the computer shoots free throws really well on all star.. well if you look at JASONWILLIAMS55 Thread on how the ratings work you would see why! TURN THEM DOWN! You can play perfect basketball on this game but you got to know how to play. Who cares about zone, who cares about Lebron all of those things can be stopped fairly easily. As far as the last comment about players should have multi-year contracts. That's not how it works at all.. look it up. Very easy to find on the internet, everybody has a smartphone and then people are to dumb to use it. Now you can continue your beratement.. and all of you people out there with your wanna be sim leagues. Just stop.. If it says anything like (can't run zone) , (cant drive to the basket), (only pass after half-court). It's not a sim league.. It's a crybaby league. Learn to play the game please. And watch real basketball while your at it.

It's one thing not to have Eric Snow. But not to have Chris Webber on the that Kings team. Makes me yell!!

So I changed from Pro to All Star level for a little more challege. Been loving the new things I've seen in about 3-4 games. A lot more contact, and 1 fouls on drives and jump shots, and another thing I saw was that players were forced to pick up their dribbles after a certain amount of contact while dribbling up court.

How do you guys feel about the force out? I've forced the CPU and a few online players out of bounds or in backcourt violations.

I never believed in sim leagues. Because of the samethings. Every year, tJust play the gam lolhe same think.

Solid post talk but you are going a little overboard with your generalizations of why people feel the way they do about 2k. Most people aren't complaining because they aren't good they are complaining because there are some issues with the game that go against basketball knowledge/principles. Issues that guys like AllStarDon(who helped me a great deal) and others would admit should be fixed. If you are of the mind set that this game is perfect as is maybe you should tell 2k to scrap the patch they have coming out. Love 2k13 but it could still use more polish in some areas and I hope you can admit that much atleast.

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

My little brother loves playing with Allen Iverson. Just like back in the day when he was on the cover. He just unstoppable. But one of the things my brother and I notice is that Allen Iverson falls to the ground after every layup lol. I know it's sounds funny. But it's the truth lol.

I still haven't seen anyone fall yet (and 1 style). I have seen some very sick passes playing with Deron Williams.
