Not so fast...what are your sliders like?

allstar/sim. played on pro/sim, it's less competitive but same issues. I don't want to tinker too much with the sliders because in recent years I have spent more time to adjust sliders than playing. What are you going to suggest?

I guess i'm one of the few who has enjoyed this game and every single 2k game. I love this game, but I also liked 2k12. All games have issues, they're video games. Patches will come but for now I'm loving 2k13 more than any other 2k game.

Players still leave their assignments for NO reason sometimes. This is a problem that started in 2k9(chris smoove had video about it before he got a bunch of 13 year old fanboys lol) and made a return in 2k12. Now it's in 2k13 again.

I'm sick of hearing this revisionist crap. 2K12's defense was abysmal compared to 2K11 AND 2K13. There were a minimal amount of perimeter defense animations and the main one was pretty unrealistic. Guiding your man to help was an exercise in futility, as your opponent would just knock down your help and you would get called with the blocking foul.

There is FAR more contact now, on the perimeter AND in the paint. People are just too LAZY to do their pre-match defensive settings. I haven't heard anyone who is complaining talk about what steps they've actually TAKEN to defend properly.

Sick of Kyle Korver draining threes all the time? Well don't just leave your defensive settings on Auto. That is just wilful stupidity. You'll leave him wide open ALL GAME.

You can't just expect the game to hand you a victory by just showing up an being a "sim player". You've got more defensive options than EVER BEFORE. USE THEM. You can look at your opponent's playstyle by just calling a timeout and switching to the appropriate tab. Mix it up. If you play 100% on ball D all the time, then you DESERVE to get beat.

Blah blah blah, another "don't say anything bad about nba 2k, if you have a problem with the game you just suck at it/don't understand it" post. These come a dime a dozen, but they don't really mean much. How can you assume that anyone who isn't a fan of the defense doesn't mess with defensive settings before the game? That's terrible logic.

I always mess with my defensive settings(depending on who i'm playing i'll have my players sag off one player, or deny the ball to another player) and i can get stops and blocks and i can still see how people would want more from the defense.

. . .and you honestly don't see something a little bit wrong when a basketball sim game's default settings for your defense allow for korver to be left open all day?

it's usually when the cpu DECIDES they're going to score - there's no stopping them aka 2k12 up & under.

I'm new to 2K and defense is where I've REALLY struggled. I mean, the CPU drives to the basket and makes basically EVERY shot. I've had PGs consistently drive to the basket and shot jumpers RIGHT OVER Dwight Howard with ease and yes, I push the block button and he RARELy blocks the shots.

Ok, I am experimenting something about help defense effectiveness, please try it for yourself and post your opinions.
Played a few games with the defensive assist strength in the controller menu option to 0 and some with the slider at 100. Somehow it seems that with the assistance ON there are some changes in my teammates IQ, they are more reactive.
I noticed that leaving the cursor to 0 you enter into a kind of full manual defensive mode where you are responsible of the man you send to help or to block the cut. Maybe I'm saying a lot of rubbish but I want to try some other games with the out of the box settings of the controller menu.
Please post your feedback.....and sorry if i can't be clear enough, i'm not a native speaker.

You guys are pathetic defense is just fine.

If you have the knowledge on how to play defense and on how to ADJUST defense is just fine. A little more contact in the paint and defense would be damn near perfect.

Again man up and learn how to play the game. If you use real NBA defensive strategies you'll do just fine. I play with alot of bad teams, against elite teams against very, very, very good sim players. And always have a great chance of winning the game or I win the game, do to coaching adjustments defensively.

Again most people don't have the knowledge on how to play NBA defense and they blame the game. Defense is just fine.

How come I have no issue playing on ball D even online? How come all the people in my friendlist have no issues either?

I've said it a million times but I'll say it again. Turn off auto shot contest and put the defensive assist slider to 0 it reduces the input lag. Try it.

Also I'm not saying defense is flawless, but you have to do alot of manual work. Just like in real life you put in the hard work you see the outcome.

Seriously how much of you guys are REALLY defensive minded where you grin when you get stops? Or trash talk to your opponent that you're gonna shut down his star player?

When you want to play D and not just go through the motions you see results. There are things that need to fix, sometimes the AI doesn't hedge properly on screens(I do hedging manually because of this) sometimes when you want to make a switch and you press LT the defenders don't switch there defensive assignments for that play and again we just need a little bit more contact in the paint. And foul calls also.

Sorry but like the above poster said learn to play the game as a coach...

For instance you should double Carmelo when he's driving to the basket instead of One on one against him...make somebody else beat you..
Call full court press to slow down their fast breaks...

I have my defensive assist on 0. Defensive assist the name speaks for it's self the AI is assisting you on defense, therefor helping you move. So when you put in a command of course it's going to lag cause it has to stop what the AI is doing and register your command and then do it.
