I think (and this is my opinion) that the art updates being supplied by 2K are screwing up the gameplay. I've had to change my sliders numerous times - so I don't know what would cause this outside of something on 2K's end. There are many, many slider settings that would affect rebounding, so there's not slider number here I could post. But I've personally found a very happy medium that I would hate to see 2K screw with.

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
you speaking from your experience and i respect that. i know ive played more games than u on quick match ranked and the more you play, the more u see the flaws. i mainly use low ranked teams against opponents who have the elite teams and i have had many situations where ive had 3 of my players around the basket and the opponent has 1 and im trying like hell to box that 1 guy out but my player doesnt create contact OR i do get the box out animation and the opponent spins off of it superquick and jumps over my other 2 guys to get the rebound. its plenty of examples posted on this site and youtube. its broken my friend.
I don't know whether or not the numbers of rebounds are realistic. They look pretty close on 12-min quarters. It's also true that there are things you can do in game to improve your rebounding that some people just haven't figured out yet, like Coach2k lists above.
But what I do find is that what the game SHOWS you happening while the shot is going up and players jostle for position, too often has nothing to do with what happens to the rebound itself. To me, that relationship is the thing that's "broken."
It seems like VC is trying to get more realistic stat totals, but at the cost of making the visuals look unnatural and disconnected.Comment

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
I agree with the OP. I play 12 minute quarters on All-Star in Association Mode and get realistic offensive rebound numbers. Some games I'll give up 20 offensive rebounds and other games I'll give up only 5, wich is very realistic. If you watch a real NBA game, some teams will get 4 offensive rebounds in a row sometimes, it happens.
Now that so many people have complained about it, I'm pretty sure the patch is gonna screw everything up in terms of rebounding. Remember 2K12 and 2K11? Offensive rebounding was non existent and it was one of the number one complaints people had about this game. Now I'm afraid we're gonna go back to that after the patch, sadly. I just hope we'll be able to put it back to the way it is now with sliders.Comment

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
I'm logged in nearly 75 games on hall of fame settings, simulation sliders on 12 minute quarters both in my league against human opponents and CPU opponents.
I also am not convinced that anything is wrong with offensive rebounds. I'll admit that it is frustrating.
What's important to note is that if you get yourself out of position on defense by reaching, falling for pump fakes or bringing up your big man with help and going for the block that you are more likely to give up an offensive rebound.
Keeping in front of your man, not hitting the steal button all of the time or the block button and instead just using the right stick to play defense helps tremendously.
Always taking chances on defense doesn't help.
It also helps that once a shot goes up to take control of a rebounder under the basket and blocking out.
Offensive rebounds are a problem in real life basketball. I know that the Bulls would always kill the Pacers on the offensive glass when the Pacers were a great team in the 90's.
The game is pretty much the same today. Here's a box score from a game the Pacers played against the Kings this year. Giving up double digit offensive rebounds is pretty common and here the Pacers got 21.
I've got a bunch of box scores from games I've played that prove that for the most part, I give up 10 to 15 offensive rebounds a game with some less and some games more (as high as 24). Not unlike in real life. These are 12 minute quarter games.
Bottom line is that your teammates take their cues from you. If you move your player out of position on defense, expect you team mates to do the same as well.
Say "No" to railroaded MC modes.Comment

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
For example, I watch the Celtics and we have Jeff Green, who is kind of a power forward but who can't get a rebound to save his life. But it's not like he gets into good rebound position and he forgets to jump for it, or the ball just slips through his fingers to land in the lap of the guy he's boxing out, which are what you see happen over and over in 2k.
His problem IRL is that he's not an aggressive player by nature and he doesn't have a good feel for how or when to crash the boards or how to establish good rebounding position. But it's very hard to simulate that with AI, I would guess, and if you are controlling him manually then you can put him into position every time.
So should the game play out according to the on-screen positioning and your controller inputs and let Green outrebound his real-life self? Or should the ratings and math take over and let Kris Humphries take off like Iron Man and fly over his head to grab the board?
Tough call. I think they do a good job of balancing most areas of the game but this year with offensive rebounding it may have gone a little too far one way.Comment

its more of the unrealistic way they are getting offensive rebounds than the number of offensive rebounds they are grabbing.Comment

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
Have you watched the REAL Celtics recently? Um, kinda like real life. I read on Celticsblog.com yesterday where Doc Rivers is quoted as saying he could care less about offensive rebounds - so I'm not sure what we want? What do YOU feel would be a "realistic" number? It's a video game - and it doesn't always play out to real-life... I don't know what some people want - is there a "standard figure" that represents some form "expected results" from a video game? And what happens when that curve gets thrown off? Could a video game program where a kid scores 138 points in a game? I guess for $60 bucks we want absolute perfection and reality in my living or bed room TV, and when those expectations aren't met, we come to websites and provide rhetoric, demanding a congressional hearing on things of this nature...
Honestly I have not, but when I am losing games because Garnett just to dumb to respond to getting a defensive rebound, and Rondo is grabbing more boards than the whole team combined I consider that to be a problem with the game. I'm not asking for real life results, because its a video game. I'm only saying that rebounding is a serious issue regardless of the threads topic.
I shouldn't have to worry to much about getting a rebound if I am playing decent defense my CPU players should respond according to their defensive and offensive rebounding rating. But they don't instead they constantly sit there starring at the ball hoping that it will fall in their hands. The rebounding needs a serious patch. Dude Garnett is avg like 5 rebounds in my association with the player who usually grabs the most boards.Comment

I don't want to babysit my teammates this much man...
I want more control in my football games, but I don't want to control my QB and offensive line at the same time...the CPU should at least be competent enough to box out...Comment

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
I agree with Youngsta 100 percent. I don't have a problem with the amount of offensive rebounds. However, I do have a problem with how the rebounds are being obtained, and who are getting these rebounds.
The good defensive rebounders don't go after enough defensive rebounds in 2k13, and poor offensive rebounders go after to many offensive rebounds. In real life a large part of rebounding is about a players effort and willingness to go after every rebound. Kevin Love, Kenneth Faried, and Zach Randolph go after every board, and the stats support that.
Athletic Players with decent size like Jeff Green, Serge Ibaka and Deandre Jordan have way to many 10 rebound games in 2k13, and attempt to grab entirely to many defensive and offensive rebounds. I think if they cut down on the number of boards that average and poor rebounders go after, and in effect grab, then the game would be fine. If Ibaka, Jeff Green, and Jordan got into rebounding position every shot, and went after every board like Love, Farried, and Randolph do then they would be above average rebounders for their position. 2k13 doesn't reflect the rebounding effort of a particular player, and this makes the rebounding unrealistic at times.Psn: Alabamarob

Re: 2k..There's NOTHING wrong with the Offensive Rebounding...
I was on the there's nothing wrong with offensive rebounding train when I first bought the game, but now I see that offensive rebounding is broken, period.
I went back and looked at the box scores from all my games in MC and the CPU outrebounds us on the offensive glass by a 3:1, 5:1 and sometimes a 6:1 margin in most games, then I started watching in games as the CPU magically moves my teammates out of the the way to get an o. reb and when we miss a shot my guys get held to the ground when they attempt to grab a rebound or they get massively out jumped or my guys just watch as the board goes right into the other players hands. There will be 3 of my teammates going for the board, all 6'7"+, all with defensive rebounding attributes over 85 and the smallest player comes in and out jumps them for a o. board.
@nova
Can you post a few pics of box scores from some of your my career games that show that big of disparity in offensive rebounds? A 5 to 1 and 6 to 1 disparity is pretty huge.
I know a lot of times during a game I feel like I am getting killed on the boards but at the end of the game it wasn't like I thought while I was playing.
The reason I'd like to see it is then we can say it is a fact and not just a feeling.
Also what settings are you playing on? Also it is always helpful to know what team you are and who the opponent is which the box score would show.Last edited by Coach2K; 11-23-2012, 08:58 PM.For MyNBA, MyLeague & MyGM content, follow Coach2K on X by clicking here.
