IMO i think they should use both skill points and VC.

Keep VC purchasable but it can only be used for dressing up your my player (tattoos, hairstyles, accessories, dunk packages etc...)

use Skill points for attribute boosts and you can only earn skill points from playing with your myplayer.

If they added My Crew in 2K13 and just didn't allow you to buy VC, that would be perfect. VC is easy enough to earn anyway. Play OA, play regular association, play MyCAREER, play quick games with friends, etc.

Also, to the person that said they should lower the height caps, that's unrealistic. There were some tall PG's, there are tall SG's, SF should be around 6'10, there are tall PF's, and there are tall Center's. I used to play with a 6'5" Athletic PG in 2K11 and I continued the trend of playing with him in 2K12 and 2K13. I am actually 6'6" in real life and I play PG when I go play on the courts because of my basketball IQ.

EDIT: Forgot to talk about the issue of hacking MyPLAYERS, but they seemed to have fixed that for online play this year.
While you obviously didnt abuse it, many did. it got tiresome playing lineups where the shortest guy was 7 ft

You know this idea isn't bad, but I would switch skill points with VC and the 2nd VC with $$$, cause doing that already has a realistic sense into it, I mean you pay for tats, haircuts, what you wear, and the guy who helped you be able to do that 360 Between The Legs Windmill Backhand Power Jam.

lets take a look at your theory as compared to real life progression.

            Michael Jordan rookie year-92 overall(1984-85)
michael jordan 88'-89 season-99 overall (His career didn't pan out so well)

            Kevin Durant rookie year-80 Overall(2007-2008)
            Kevin Durant is now a 95 overal(2012-2013) back-to-back-to back 3x Scoring Champion.....Nice!

            Russell Westbrook rookie year-77 overall(2008-2009)
Russell Westbrook now is a 90 Overall(2012-2013) It was actually higher last year

            Lebron James Rookie year-78 overall(2003-2004)
Lebron James is now an 99 OVERALL(2012-2013) 3xMVP awards winner and NBA World Champion in the process.

Derrick Rose in his rookie year-80 overall(2009-2010)
Derrick Rose now is now an overall 92(2012-2013) Just to think, this guy actually is the youngest MVP in NBA history!

So as you can see, player progression is an inevitability. Whether its one season, 3 seasons, or 10 seasons. Players will eventually live up to their true potential. It should be showcased no different, and replicated no better than in NBA 2k. Why would you want to place a cap or restrict how high a player can get? So at best if you work hard for 3 or more NBA seasons your MyPlayer can be an 80 overall and if you add some shoes on, a cool 85 overall? Man, all i can say is I am glad you're not one of the brainchild's behind the development process over at 2ksports because your theory doesn't make sense at all.

The thing about variety is, not everyone thinks the same nor do they play the same style as you. Some people like scoring point guards, or athletic shooting guards, or all-around small forwards. On the other hand, you might come across a point guard who's more methodical and likes the slow paced game and makes himself a pass first point guard, or maybe a defensive power forward like Dennis Rodman. Regardless of what people choose, not everyone is the same, so there's tons of options out there for you to go against. I think you just need to open your eyes my friend.
I understand his point, to say it makes no sense at all is a little ridiculous. He liked playing the mode but grew tired of playing 7 ft. chris pauls. Limits on created players would force you to be more strategic with your points and show a real difference from player to player instead of everyone maxed out. i think it would be fun looking through forums or blacktop games looking for that defensive specialist or elite rebounder. building your team identity would be a blast imo

I want to play hoops, not enter an and-one competition.

Player types should have hard caps, and you get XP to spend based on your grades and how many games you play (online) -- so certain milestones are mapped out ahead of time just like NHL. this way players are rewarded for playing online and bad players are not punished and get a chance to learn and adapt, and the last XP you get will get your guy to maybe a 80-85 overall, so you can't just be an incredible shooter/dunker/defender/ballhander. you have to choose one area over another and make sacrifices. that way every player online is unique, with unique sets of skills. teammates will compliment each other, like real life....instead of a bunch of different sized 99's running around at top speed.

If they ever get this mode straight, it will be addictive as hell just like EASHL is for hockey fans...and EA makes a lot of money from that mode from impatient players buying unlocks etc...

then the final problem of course, will be finding anyone online that doesn't cheese and use exploits to score 100% of the time
This...i agree with you 100%. love the idea of finding complimentary pieces for you squad

the recruiting lobby is called myplayer pick up games. So you;re teling me people who play crew would just go in a lobby and find random people who aparently would have nothing better else to do but just sit in lobby all day in hopes of a crew to randomly hit them up and say "Hey, you with 3 point specialist, i need you to try out for my crew". NOOOOOOOOOO

How it should work is whatever signature style you choose(Athletic, Scorer, 3-point specialist, Defensive specialist, All-Around, Face-Up, Rebounder. etc..) there should be a world map of all those signature styles across the board. So like if theres a need for a scorer on your crew, and there about 150 scorers online at the moment, you could invite them into your party, and give them a tryout in your crew. I remember playing Final Fantasy 11 for xbox 360 when it first came out, and the job class system worked out similar to that. The only thing is that if 2k were to approach signature styles like the Final Fantasy universes Job Class system, they would need to put a cap on each signature Style so as to make them unique and have each style serve a purpose. As in regardless if a defensive specialist reaches his max potential, he could never be a as great a threat on offense as a 3-point specialist or a scorer. To make it fun, they should be able to have 2 job classes per my player so if you start out as a defensive player, if your second signature style is 3-point specialist, that could be something you develop over time during the course of my career, myplayer pickup games or crew matches. what do you guys think?

I hope they do bring back the mode but if they don't it's whatever. If they do bring it back I might not even try to get in a crew since I've lost patience.

1)Not everyone has the free time to play 3 or 4 seasons of my career just so they they can compete with other people on crew games. Some of us actually work, go to school, have lives outside of videogames to dedicate that much time to build our Myplayers up. That's why i believe the concept of Virtual Currency works in our favor. So if your schedule allows you 3 hours of gaming for the night, why not log on with your friends, pay for your VC, and run a couple of My Crew Games.

2)2K13 was only the trial run with VC. So by stating that Virtual Currency should ONLY be used for accessories doesn't make sense. Imagine being able to purchase different things to +BOOST your crew. Example:Signature Shoes only Playable in Crew Mode that gives you team attribute boosts. Or maybe different Arenas, Purchase lighting effects and intros for your Myplayers in crew.

if an 80 overall my player shoots a ton of 3 pointers in his my career, you're telling me he shouldn't be able to use spot up shooter, or corner specialist in crew? I'm just saying, some things you say, i agree with, but a lot of things i disagree with.

I can see where you're coming from. but why would you spend more money than $60 on a game that isn't even as-near perfect as it should be. VC is so cheap these days, that people can literally pick up the game than spand about $5 for like 20,000VC and just OBLITERATE people who just want to play legit and work their way up.

And the 3 pointers are ALL GOOD by me. if your a shooter and you're wind open BY ALL MEANS knock that baby in. but by the fail development by 2K on the threes just kinda kills it....I mean have you seen MyTEAM this Year?

Re: NBA 2K14 Crew Mode:Bring This Mode Back!

No offense to 2K but they are LAZY when it comes to Crew.

We have 3v3 Blacktop, haven't seen a hacker yet..and you're telling me they can't expand that to at least a 5v5 full court blacktop at the very least? Come on.

They better add Crew in this year, because if Live's smart they're going to do just that. If Live's smart they'll have playoffs, good stat tracking, leaderboards that make sense, etc..and I'm not even a Live fan ever since like 06 but since 2K11 2K has just been so lazy in fixing what a lot of people want.

And another thing, they better not let you buy VC for your online guy if they add crew. You're telling me it's fair to let some little brat tell his mom he needs $20 for his game to make his guy unstoppable, and in that short time his guy's better than mine and I been playing through a whole season? Bogus.

If that's the case forget about Crew, I'd rather play a hacker than someone who bought their player, at least when I beat the hacker it's more gratifying.

I just feel like there's so much potential in this mode it's crazy, I'd pay an extra $30 just to have a real good, intricate Crew Mode in 2K14. But I've also been let down by 2K a lot as well, so I can't get my hopes up. If 2K messes up with no Crew again or there's bought players or hacks, hopefully Live capitalizes.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.

I don't have the time to go on Minecraft and build a replica of the city of Philadelphia, so I don't. I might check a Youtube vid and be like "hey that's nice", but I don't pay someone to make it for me.

If you pay for your VC it's the same premise, you're just taking shortcuts because you're too lazy. I made a new guy for online like last week, 68 overall, and I been killing people on Blacktop that have bought players. So it's not impossible you just gotta know the game.

I get why everyone is so annoyed with the microtransactions..but I think there's one flaw in your argument here sir. If it's some little brat...you'll be better than him anyway. I cannot TELL you how many kids with 99 overalls me and my squad body on a regular basis. You can always tell, because even with 99 overall and the +10 jewelry they have no concept of game. They will get some BS to go in, I'll be the first to admit...but being maxed out in everything doesn't automatically make them better than you, and if you believe it does then you've already lost.

It's like when I hear people over the mic go "Oh god, they're hall of famers.." and I just laugh because they let that little symbol next to the opposing team intimidate them. If you go into anything thinking that you lost, you already have one foot in the grave, so-to-speak.

The VC Microtransactions can stay for that stuff in my opinion, they don't honestly effect as much as the people that complain about it act like they do. You still can't by Skill. And I'll take a skilled guy with any character, over a scrub with maxed out abilities.

and seeing your second post, you understand what i'm saying with this one, so Why complain about it? It doesn't ruin the game, at most it obviously just makes it a little more difficult for you. But you said you're winning. I'm not trying to be ignorant or flame, but why make a second post contradicting the first one? The first one states that if someone spends money they are automatically better than you stat wise, but the second one says it doesn't matter and you just don't like lazy people. You must be a politician...
