Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
2k really pisses me off these days, they never want to address the main issues, they just keep lying and lying. I remember back in January i called them because my game kept freezing, and they had the nerve to tell me they were coming up with another patch. Months later i sold the game because i couldnt deal with this buggy game.Comment

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
Perfect example how 2K promotes Cheese. I like to use the Wizards and we all know Wall has no jumper. His mid rating is 77 with a lot of blue hot spots. He can't make a regular spot up jumper or a dribble pull up, even if he's wide open. With that being said Wall has the Shot Creator Sig. Skill, which triggers off of any leaners, spin jumpers, step-backs & fade aways taken. Now those type of shots fall at a better rate then a wide open spot-up. So 2K is making me take all these arcade type of shots to make Wall effective. What's even more worst the higher the rating your player has the more effective he is with the Signature Skills boosting his already high rating which makes him unstoppable if used right.
You might be able to slow down a 80 and below guy with those creative offensive Signature Skills, but anyone rated 80 & above with multiple Off. Sig Skills you will have a problem stopping them.Comment

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
As the title says, do you think 2K promotes cheese by not fixing the issues caused when a new gameplay mechanic is added.
I'm starting to think so, 3's in general, Euro step 3's, Spin dunks, Up and Unders, Alley Oops, Blind full court passes and Overrated CPU defense.. none of them have been fixed. What do you guys think because I'm done defending 2K- NBA2K. Playing smart and having skill doesn't pay because you can lose to people that have no skill whatsoever.
First of all to debunk your theory that 2ksports "promotes" cheese is laughable at best. If anything, 2k Perennially tries to create the most realistic simulation of basketball translated into a video game EVERY SINGLE YEAR. The best way to put it is: Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. Out of the box, 2K might have a few flaws here and there, but overall, the moves that are your disposal are moves that are capable by nba players. They're not impossible to do. Once you master the moves, yeah, people can take can advantage and exploit. But for every action, theres a reaction. If someone is using an overpowering move, more than likely theres a counter to that. If you have good I.Q you'll learn what that counter move is quickly. If that person is any good, they'll counter your counter with another counter. By then you'll have had a counter for his counter.
You get my point.
Stepback Jumpshots
Up and Unders
Spin Dunks
Full Court Passes
Are all part of the game my man. No way that 2k doesn't try and improve gameplay each year. Granted, they only have a year to make adjustments to each game, but each adjustment was made so as to correct a previous flaw or flaws that were in last years game. Try and be more forgiving of a company that tries its best to give the fans of the game what we want. REALISM! To say that 2K Promotes cheese is like saying McDonalds Promotes Diabetes. It's all on the individual man. Some People play fair(House rules) Some people play to do whatever it takes to win the game.
We all have access to the same teams, the same myplayers, the same moves, so instead of making threads asking why 2k promotes cheese you should be asking yourself Why am i not able to adjust to whats happening on the court.

At the end of the day my man, all these moves that you say 2k
"Promotes Cheese" with, are moves that can be done by anyone who learns how to play the game. Now if there are gameplay mechanic issues that make you go through people, or sliding issues, then i mean, thats a whole other topic, but dont put the blame on 2k because you and a whole bunch of other people havent ladjusted to how to slow down or stop some of these moves. They're in the game for a reason. Learn to adjust fam.Last edited by Mrleaderboards; 07-26-2013, 12:50 PM.Comment

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
Im gonna go ahead and say this. Some the stuff in the game is very realistic and players can do. I think the biggest problem though, is the fact that so many players abuse the crap out of it, like spin dunks, alley oops, etc. Another big problem though, is there are alot of things that can be done at a high rate, that are in no way realistic. euro step 3s, fadeway 3pters, self alley dunks, player with the ball gaining super speed while your defending and so on. The problem with this game mainly is that things are so easily abusable. Because lets be honest, spin dunks shouldn't be used every other possession, in real life when players do it, they do it once maybe twice a game, not every possession.
another thing I think, is that certain things in this game, just shouldn't be done. As i said and many others have said before me, fading 3pters and free throw line dunks over multiple defenders is just flat out cheese. I understand the argument that you just have to ignore stuff like that, cuz every game has its glitches. But that line gets real old to us guys who experience things like that multiple times in a game. And will basically lose games, or come close to losing games, because dwight howard can dunk over everybody, or because dwade shot about 20 fading 3pters that are next to unblockable. I admire the guys who can still win games against people who do crap like that, but honestly its incredibly frustrating to play against people who do that kind of stuff.
The overall main problem i see with this game though is that even the realistic moves are abused to death, and things that shouldn't even be possible happen far to often. I see often that the game will allow things to happen to keep things interesting, and the things i listed above are the main problems with this game. So yea spin dunks, up and unders and what have you, are realistic. But whats unrealistic is how often there done. Notice nba players don't even abuse these moves. Not cause there trying to be "sim" but because they themselves know that to try and use these moves over and over is stupid and not smart basketball.
The whole point of "sim" is to play like real life, and using teams and players the way there supposed to be used. and part of 2ks job if there claiming to be sim, is to only allow realistic things to go on in the game. shooting 60+% from 3 isn't realistic. draining mid rand j's with hands in your face over and over again while finishing the game with 50% shooting off of contested jumpers game after game isn't realistic. dunking over several defenders multiple times a game, isn't realistic. spin dunking with lebron for the last 10 possessions isn't realistic. I could keep going on with this, but my overall point is this. Some of the things that we can do in game may very well be possible, but the ability to use them possession after possession, is in no way "sim", because again, playing sim, means playing realisticly. and abusing these types of moves is not what real nba players do, therefore it should not be in game, and the game shouldn't allow these moves to be abused. You should be punished for trying to use nonsensical moves over and over. And lastly, playing sim against cheesers is not fun in the slightest. even if you can win, the frustration that comes with it is, incredibly irritating.Lakers

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
Alright leaderboard, yes, all those things happen regularly in NBA games. But in a Thunder game is it typical for KD to take 2/3 of the team's shots? (and the team wins)
Do players get the ball from the inbound, charge up court, straight into the paint, spin, fake, and shoot amongst three bigs for over half a team's possessions? (and the team wins)
Does Paul Gasol go scoreless in every game he plays?! (Bosh too) (and the team wins)
Do good three point shooters just dribble and slowly creep laterally to create space and jack up threes without moving the ball around? (and the team wins)
I played a guy yesterday who ran a knicks lineup of mello, felton, smith, shumpert at the 4, and amare. Chandler didn't get a minute. The guy ran 1-3-1. At first I was like, great, I'll just dump it in to KG over and over again and punish this dude. Nope. The guy swarmed me every time. Kick outs got picked. I had to play small to compete. Let me repeat, shumpert at the 4. Chandler, healthy, did not get a minute. Show me some you tube videos of that. IRL that defense would be hopeless. In this game, he was in every passing lane and challenging every shot. It was cheesy as velveeta, and way too effective.
The point of everybody in this thread is that all these tactics are easy to do. The fact that 2K has made a game where the following things occur, regularly, points to the fact that they are promoting these tactics, which are WAY inconsistent with how the game works IRL.
- Spin move, every time you drive, followed by a hesitation or pump fake, is way easier to execute than a straight up layup (how many times you think you are gonna do a layup and you just pull up for a ****ty jumpshot), or floater (see layup), and has a higher probability of success. In the NBA players use a variety of attacks in the lane. In the game, one is disproportionately effective. This is cheesy.
- Jacking contested threes is a much more certain way to win than running plays and risking getting passes picked off, and risking the lower shooting percentages of role players without signature skills. In the NBA, teams run plays, move the ball around, and execute in the half court. Sure, transition and pull up threes happen, but not to the degree they do in the game. Take a guy like KD, plant him in his hotspot, and fire away disregarding the defense, and you have a good chance at winning. This is cheesy. Let alone the fact that a change in defense breaks plays. Way too many people change defenses mid-play and break plays. It's SOOOOO cheesy.
- Playing 1 3 1 creates turnovers and smothers defense, and is much more effective than man to man. In the NBA they seldom use this defense. This is cheesy.
It all adds up. Yes, you can try to beat them at that game, but the point is (again, this is the point, since you are teaching us all to debate), is that THIS GAME IS NOT LIKE NBA BASKETBALL. Occasionally you can put a good defensive strategy to these guys and execute a solid offensive plan and win. But more often, it doesn't matter what you do, guys will destroy you with one or two players using only one or two of the above techniques.
These tactics are cheesy.
They work because of the way the game was developed.
Thus, game developers promote the cheese. If they didn't, they would develop a game where the above things didn't happen ALL THE TIME. If , as an average player, it was more effective to run plays, use man to man, move the ball around, etc..., then people would do that instead of this BS. 80% of online users utilize cheesy tactics. Why? Because they are more effective than real basketball strategy.Last edited by funkworthy; 07-26-2013, 04:04 PM.Comment

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
Self Alley oop off the backboard was it really needed in the game?? How many times have you seen it done in real game not counting an all-star game, what maybe 2-3 times I've ever seen it done by Javale, Lebron and someone else. In 2K13 everyone can do it and have a super high chance that it goes in.
Off ball defense is another crutch 2K gave these cheesy kids. You can win evey game playing off ball because again the game is so casual friendly you can stand at half court and CPU will do everything it can to get you to screw up.PSN: ForeverVersatile

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
The self alley oops, euro step 3pt move, easy dribbling, no contact dunks, and most of the signature skills that were added this year clearly points to 2k helping to promote cheese in my eyes. Its crazy how ineffective you are on defense this year with all of the benefits they have given to the ball handler. You don't even have to take good shots or play smart anymore to be good in this game. IMHO, 2k really went overboard this year trying to appeal to the casual gamer.Comment

yes it does lets see(im going to base my opinions on playing in HOF simulation online associations)
1.players seem to get rewarded for playing off ball defense when it should be vice versa
2.its too easy to just run in the corner and smack fade away 3s
3.crazy accurate full court passes equals a cherry pickers dream
4.standing dunks are a glitch to me EVERY SINGLE TIME somebody gets the ball in the paint to their big men its either an bs and one or a foul very rarely does somebody go up in the paint with out atleast getting a foul called
5.these isn't cheese but its a glitch cpu teamate reach in fouls for NO REASON AT ALL i can be playing good d and my ai teamates will come over and reach(when they obviously have no way to get the ball)
6.euro steps are almost guaranteed fouls
7.the double tap x jumpers are beyond fake
8.transition defense is horrible(sure lets all just run in the paint instead of matching up and just leave the perimeter open for jumpers) leads me to my next point
9.transition 3s go in at way to high of a clip imo i can understand somebody like melo hitting them more often but when bum role players can come down and stop in pop so efficient is dumb
10. its too easy to just sprint straight into the paint and the dumb ai teamates dont rotate and usually jump late and it all adds up to either an easy dunk or an and one regardless of what i have my coach profiles on
this game is broken but i still try to enjoy it still play everyday just ready for the xbox one to get here so i can see if 2k finally gets it rightComment

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
Thinking about it, 2K has had problems with users changing their defense mid play going back to College Hoops 2K8. If someone ran full court trap, they would change defense on the inbound pass and the ball would sail out even if a teammate was less than 5 feet away.Comment

Re: Does 2K promote cheese?
It has been mentioned but here it comes again.
* Off ball defense should be passive. Off ball players should move slower when defending the ball and should not contest shots. The game of basketball is 50% defense 50% offense and allowing a player only play offense is frustrating.
* Bring back the defensive icon. Please!! Let us identify the cheesers in online associations. I'm still trying to understand why was it removed in the first place.Comment
