Of course your problem isnt with the Rating because they gave you a fairly high rating opposed to the Review

The only reason you guys have a problem with the review is because the guy basically came out and said that the game isnt as good as many people might have thought it would be. Gamespot did the same with Live 2005, I thought Live was going to be almost perfect, but they gave it a 7.9...and honestly, I thought all these sports sites would give ESPN 2k5 somewhere in the 90's because they do that every year even though IMO the game isnt very good at all (Mainly because of the gameplay)

Just because all of you are brainwashed into thinking ESPN NBA is going to be perfect, doesent mean it's going to be

You all harrass this hillary guy just because he gave his review on the game and it wasnt to your all's liking. Atleast he provided us with video clips to prove his points

Overall, I think alot of you are actually very angry over this because they gave it a lower rating than Live 2005. I would bet you if Live had gotten an 8.0 (right below espn 2k5) none of you would be complaining like you are now

Wow, you are hilarious. You agree with me, then proceed to bash everyone here. First off, read the reviews and watch ALL the videos. (pay attention to the shaq long jumper one) Second of all I used to be on Live's boat totally and then I noticed a NBA 2k5 trailer (check back if you want to via post history) and I decided both would be good. Third of all, ratings mean crap and I frankly don't care one bit about them. You are right about live for the most part, but I still think people would be upset that Mr. Duff here wrote a bashing review and instead of it getting a 4 or something, it gets a 8.1! He said, what, 2 good things about the game? Even if it sucks, WHY RATE IT GOOD?! That's what we can't understand.

Everyone that has posted in this thread is not a fanboy, so go in your hole before you start pointing fingers when you don't obviously know what all is going on.

You can say what you would like about Hilary's credibility- I also think he can be a good at times, however if what he says is indeed true, this game is NOT a sim....

-He confirms questionable shots by the AI. 5 three's in 3 games? Oh my.

-Pro Hop scores 90% of the time...not good.

-Game seems all about offense...definitely not good.

I don't look so much at the score as I do these telling points.

Don't forget, all marquee players PLAYING the SAME. Man, this is what I was afraid of.

Only Inside Drive has truly gotten this right.

I don't know about his review though, a lot of the problems might be fixabe through sliders. It doesn't seem like he really played around with the sliders. As for playing D, it's something that might be tough to play at first, but can get easier the more you play (just speculating).

I'll be sure to check that the store I buy it from will give me a full refund before I buy it. I'll buy it, play it for a while, see how I like it. If I don't, it's back to the store.

Increase the 3pt tendancy

Too many shots in the paint?
Decrease Close shot tendancy

Not enough defense?
Increase the defense sliders (Can't remember the names)

I just want to know what all of you are going to say if this review proves to be legit? I am buying both games and hope they are both great. I don't know why a review from Hillary Goldstein would get you all tore up. This guy has proved to be a sports idiot as do most of the people at IGN. They are more of the RPG, FPS, etc. kind of people. None of this should suprise you guys.

The only mentions of sports on there main page are a Madden PC review and an interview with Patrick Kerney. You will see that NBA Live and 2k5 were released if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and look at the small writing under latest releases. You would think that after they have posted their reviews of both of the premiere hoops games on the market that they might....just might want to put a mention of it in the scrolling menu. Yes, if you are looking for it then you can find it(under latest reviews), but what about the casual gamer who just sees a nice pic and then clicks the link? I have been an IGN Insider for the past two years, but they will never get another penny of mine.

We'll after 2 reviews like that , I guess I wouldn't advertise them too much either.

Wait for Steve to post his review of both games and then you can make your decision if you are only going to buy one game. For 60 bucks, you should do yourself a favor and buy both of them or at least wait till Friday and rent them.

Personally, I can't wait to get my game on.

First off, on Live's review, all Hilary seemed to talk about was the Slam Dunk contest. I just played Live last night, and the 5 on 5 gameplay was almost the exact same as last year. Yet, Hilary makes it almost seem like it is a perfect representation of basketball, except at hte very end throws in some comments about the force field and hopstep.

Here all he does is plaster ESPN wiht criticism. Of hte five pages he wrote, there is hardly one full page of praise. WTF? Are you an idiot?

I'll just have to wait for the Gamespot review or the OS one, bc IGN has completely lost its credibility...

Hilary Goldstein has no credibility with me as far as his ratings are concerned and his conception of what sim b-ball should be like, BUT he does make strong points in this case for why ESPN NBA 2k5 might not be very good.

It has plays, that's a HUGE improvement over last year's game already. However, if that's all they've really improved, it might not be enough. The player differentiation and the statement that the AI always tries to score in the paint is a big question mark for me. Maybe it's just because he can't defend the paint and gives up a ton of rebounds, or maybe it's really a problem with the game.

I don't know, all I know is I want to play it and see for myself. If he has valid points, then I'll give him credit for that. If not, he just proves once again, he's not fit to review b-ball games.

But I totally agree with you in that the criticism may be for the best...ie some things like the Shaq cross over and Z etc (see the vids here) just are stupid and NEED to go...
